Silent Hacker - Chapter 88:Heading To The Tower
I speed up as I reach the woods wishing to get through this as quickly as possible. Chip makes easy work up ahead marking the best path to take. I use the contacts and the information he sends to them to make my way through the wooded area.
I frown when I see everything becoming denser. “Be careful Maya, things are getting tighter.” I shift down bringing the speed down on the bike. “Got it. How are we looking?” I ask looking to the sides quickly. We haven’t run into but I couldn’t shake the feeling that we were being followed.
“I haven’t detected anything but if I do I’ll tell you immediately,” Chip says quickly cutting to the right to avoid a fallen tree. I look at the tree as I drive past and find myself clenching my teeth. The black stuff was beginning to cover more and more.
“Chip, remember to stay away from the black stuff…” I say turning to the right to avoid the fallen tree. “I know Maya…” Suddenly he comes to a stop looking around us. I pull up behind him and look around as well. Did he detect something?
“Run Maya!” Chip yells as a large creature launches itself out of the dense bushes. I kick the bike in gear and curse. “Go Chip!” I yell and watch as Chip bats the large creature mid-air. The creature hits a large tree breaking it in half. It screams causing me to flinch at the high pitched noise.
The tree falls over creating a loud bang. The creature looks as if it was a large spider with long spiny legs covered in what looked like poisonous barbs. What in the world… I didn’t stay around long enough to see if it gets back up.
All the noise had attracted more creatures. I kick the bike up another gear as I do my best to avoid trees, bushes, and the black goo. Chip was close behind “Just keep going Maya, I’ll watch your back.” But suddenly a large creature pounces on Chip knocking him to the ground.
I slam on my breaks and turn the bike around kicking up dirt and rocks in the process. No one touches Chip… I pull my gun out and aim at the bear-like beast. I unload the gun on the thing and watch as it screams in pain.
Chip uses the distraction and uses his powerful back legs to kick the beast off him. I unload the empty clip and quickly pop in a new one as I begin unloading it into the beast again. Somehow I wasn’t surprised to see the thing keep going.
Even as it bled it was black, not red. The beast turns to me and gives a mighty roar shaking everything around us. I flinch again and begin thinking I should really start packing earplugs. These things are always so loud! “Maya!” Chip yells as the beast begins charging after me.
I kick the bike in gear as I spin it back around and take off. I start weaving in and out of the trees but when I feel a brach hit me from behind I turn around to see the creature plowing through the trees, not even bothering with going around them. I curse again when I realize it’s catching up. Chip was running behind the beast and nipping at his back legs to try and slow it down but the beast seems to be ignoring him.
I’m going to strap a damn bazooka to Chip… This is ridiculous! Suddenly a huge tree falls in front of me nearly causing me to crash in order to avoid hitting it. “Maya!!” Chip yells. I look over to see the large best jumping at me. I do my best to pull away but when my tires spin I curse again.
Chip sinks his large teeth into the beast and sends out an electrical shock causing the beast to scream in pain. I flinch and fight against the urge to cover my ears. I pull my gun out, popping out the old clip and replacing it with another full clip.
I point to the beast but find myself hesitating. Chip was too close and they keep moving… I can’t get a clear shot. I suddenly look to my right and find another large creature coming straight at me. I start unloading my gun as I pull out my other gun.
