Silent Hacker - Chapter 98:Oops
In the middle of the night by the look of it… so I couldn’t just open the door or could I? I kick off the floor when the water becomes too deep to keep standing. Was the thing ever going to stop!? I take a deep breath and go under to continue where I left off but as the water filled higher and higher, I found it nearly impossible to keep reading.
Each time it took longer and longer for me to reach the top before taking a deep breath and going back under. I kicked with everything I had but I kept trying to float up to the top. I look behind me to find Chip swimming in circles under the water.
He pauses to look at me with his glowing blue eyes as I point up. He nods and we both go up. I suck in a deep breath and look at Chip. We were nearly at the top… “Chip… I need you to help bring me down okay? I need to go back to the mark I made.”
Chip looks at me with confusion but nods his head. “Humans float Chip, which is great at times but right now it’s working against me. I need to stop the water or I’m going to drown.” Realization flashed across his eyes as we swim over to the door.
Once there I take a deep breath and nod as Chip dives. I hold on to him and kick my legs to help. Once I was in front of the glowing mark I made I reach out and wipe my hand across it. The water coming from it tries to push me away but with Chip’s help, I’m able to stay put.
Sure enough, the mark stops glowing and the water stops coming. I push off the ground and quickly swim to the top as my lungs begin to scream for air. I come up inhaling as deeply as possible and look for Chip. I begin to worry but Chip finally comes up with a smile.
“You did it!” He says with joy. I give a weak laugh and say “We need to open the door and release the water. Can you help me go down again?” Chip eagerly nods his head. I give him a big smile before taking a deep breath.
I hold on to him and this time I don’t kick. It didn’t help last time so I decided to save my energy for the door. The pressure from the water pushes against my ears making the hurt a bit but I ignore it. Once down I grab Chip and point to the back of my pants.
Chip nods his head and grabs my pants, effectively holding me down as I grab the lock. I pull with everything I have as my lungs begin to burn. Come on… come on… I pull and feel myself trying to float but Chip quickly pulls me back.
The lock finally gives and I begin pulling with everything I have but the pressure of the water makes it difficult. I put both my feet on the wall next to the door and push with everything I have. Chip lets go of my pants and grabs the doorknob with his mouth as he begins to help pull.
My lungs burn from the lack of oxygen and my heart threatens to beat out of my chest but I ignore it when I feel the door moving. My vision becomes darker as I scream under the water with an effort to open the door.
The door opens and I’m immediately sucked out with the water. I tumble and flip but when I finally stop, I sit up inhaling the air greedily. *Cough cough cough* I don’t know if it’s the water or the sucky air out here but I cough like I’m about to cough up a lung.
Water continues to wash past me as I struggle to stand up. Something hits me from behind and I fall back on it. I look down to see Chip on his back looking confused. “Hahaha! Looks like you made it too Chip.” He gives me a dry look and pushed me off.
I stand up again but when I look up I find all the dark creatures staring at us in shock. We stare at each other with neither one making a noise before they all run the to water, drinking it quickly before the dry ground has a chance to absorb it all.
