Since When Did You Have The Illusion That You Don’t Have Magical Powers?! - CH 4
Characters in this chapter:
Percival Belisario, 3rd son of Margrave of Vanderwall on the Eastern Frontier
When I left the principal’s office, for some reason Percival was waiting for me in the corridor with a worried look on his face.
“Are you alright?”
“Hey, what’s up Percival?”
“I heard that Sapphiras was summoned to the principal’s office…….”
Did you come all the way here because you were worried about me? Percival is a really good guy. Even if I get expelled and leave the academy, I vow to always rush to Percival’s side in times of crisis.
“Is everything alright?”
I’m sure Percival knows why I was summoned to the principal’s office. He has a worried look on his face, probably hesitating if it’s ok to ask about it.
“’Un. Well, I don’t know what will happen. It’s a bit early for supper, but do you want to go to the cafeteria? I’m starving.”
“Ahh,”
I headed to the cafeteria with Percival.
I thought it would be a little interesting to study again, but to be honest, studying at this academy isn’t right for me. It seems that the teachers are all conservative people with old ways of thinking. I wonder if I have a more flexible way of thinking than I did 150 years ago. I thought that magic was getting a little more interesting, but surprisingly it wasn’t.
“Oi,”
When I was heading to the café alongside Percival, a voice called out to me from behind.
I don’t know who in the world they are calling ‘oi’, but the voice is vaguely familiar, so it’s probably me who is being called. I could just ignore it, but ignoring it would probably get me into trouble, so I have no choice but to stop and turn around with a fake smile on my face.
“……This, it’s been a long time. Brother.”
When I smiled and greeted him, Perfectio’s eldest brother Veritas looked slightly surprised. I think he was surprised to see me smiling, as I always have a gloomy face.
“……Seriously, because of the benevolent system in this country, father has to waste his money on a disgrace like you.”
“Haa……”
What the hell is that? Did you call and stop me just to say that?
“The annoyance is that your incompetence is well-known in this academy. Moreover, it seems that you’ve done some silly tricks with your magic skills. Two years from now, Aquila will also be enrolled in this academy. Do not dishonour Perfectio’s name any further…I hope you will make wise decisions for the sake of your family.”
After saying only what he wanted to say, my brother quickly left.
I’m not sure what on earth he was trying to say.
“Is that really your brother?”
As I tilted my head, Percival was standing next to me with a sour expression.
“Eh? Do we not look alike? I mean, our hair colour is different, but our eyes and nose are pretty similar, don’t you think?”
My brother has light blonde hair, I have black. The colour is different, but I think we have in common an ephemeral handsome face that is unique to Perfectio. Also, our eye colour is the same. But frustratingly, my brother has a better physique. This is not because of age, but obviously because of our different diets.
“’That’s not what I mean.”
Percival said irritably.
I’m glad you are angry for me. Because Sapphiras has been lonely all this time.
“Well, isn’t that what it is? I’m shunned by my family. But still, what the hell did he want to say to me when he came all the way over here?”
“He wants you to leave school voluntarily.”
“Ah! I see…wha? Um, who is this?
“Ara, I’m sorry. For interrupting your conversation. My name is Aurora Steinfeld.”
A beautiful girl with honey-colored blond hair and amethyst eyes suddenly cut into the conversation. Her translucent white skin and glossy cherry lips inadvertently caught my gaze. The girl picks up the hem of her skirt and quickly lowers her knees in greeting. It’s a sophisticated gesture. But it wasn’t just her beauty that caught my eye.
This is.
“Holy magician……”
“Ara, you recognise me?”
The beautiful girl who introduced herself as Aurora giggled like a child who had successfully pulled off a prank. I was with a holy magician for a long time in my previous life, so I have a vague understanding of the magical powers of a holy magician.
“I never thought I’d meet a holy magician, who is said to be one of the rarest in the world, at the academy.”
“I’m still an apprentice. I can’t control magic well.”
“White magic is completely different from normal magic in terms of the nature and usage of magical power.”
Normal magic is a phenomenon that occurs when you let your magic out of your body. White magic of healing heals wounds and illnesses by giving one’s own magic power to the other person. The reason why few people can play an active role as white magicians even if they have white magic is because it is difficult to understand the mechanisms of a living creature’s body and to channel one’s own magical power to an opponent without them rejecting it.
“Ara, Perfectio-sama is quite an interesting person, isn’t he?
The use of white magic is not generally known. Aside from those with good instincts who can use it instinctively, there is no place to learn it because white magic users are seldom found. In my case, I had a holy magician among my comrades to teach me the principles. That being said, I can’t use healing magic even if I’m taught, since I don’t have an aptitude for white magic.
“But, voluntary withdrawal……well, I guess that’s possible.”
“Are you seriously saying that?”
Percival growls in a low voice.
“No, but now that I think about it, it makes me feel uncomfortable to think that I am going to the academy with my father’s money, and Perfectio isn’t poor either, so it won’t hurt or itch with my tuition fees, but it’s really annoying to be complained about every time something happens. It’s a good opportunity for me to quit the academy, register with a guild, and become an adventurer.”
“Ara, you have to be 16 years old to register with the guild.”
“Eh! No way! Really? ……That’s too bad.”
In my previous life, you could register with the guild at the age of 12. What has happened in 150 years?
But that’s a problem. It’s a bit too much to live without a job for another two years, and if I’m expelled from school, I’ll lose a place to sleep that would keep me out of the wind and rain. I wonder if there is a job other than being an adventurer where I can make use of my special skills.
“I have a proposal.”
As I groaned, Aurora’s purple eyes twinkled.
“Most of the students who attend this academy are aristocrats, but not all of them can afford to pay the high tuition fees. Some families have gone to great lengths to send their sons and daughters to the academy. That’s why we have a sponsored scholarship system.”
“Sponsored scholarships?”
“Yes. The aristocrats who support the academy help students with good grades to pay their tuition fees.”
“Hmm, it sounds like a very good system, but if you use it, aren’t you forced to serve the state or the nobles who sponsored you after you graduate?”
After all, this school is a royal academy. The academy was founded by the king.
“Yes, well. It’s a system to develop human resources to serve the king. But if you can pay back half of your tuition fees after graduation, you don’t have to force yourself to work. So, if you decide to remain at the academy, why don’t you consider becoming a scholarship student?”
Normally, one would aim for a stable job at the royal court, Aurora laughed.
I see.
However, as someone who just had a quarrel with the principal, I find that system a little difficult to use.
“The Duke of Bloomfield is also involved in this scholarship system. So don’t worry about it.”
Aurora giggles elegantly.
I don’t know what worries she’s talking about, but she is a beautiful girl. Is she the daughter of a duke? Sapphirus is really ignorant of the world. As expected of being ordered into confinement.
After I left Aurora, Percival told me that Aurora is also the fiancée of the second prince of this country. Even without the fact that she’s a holy magician, I thought she isn’t a normal girl.
‘I’, who wasn’t allowed to learn anything, really didn’t know anything about the nobility and the circumstances surrounding it. I was really going to be sold to the Andersons as a male prostitute, wasn’t I?
But my future is as an adventurer, so I don’t need to bother learning about that. For now, if I ask Percival while I’m at the academy, I should be able to avoid inadvertently being rude to the sons and daughters of a higher-ranked family. I’m sorry, but I’ll rely on you there.
That evening, the principal contacted me.
There is no particular blame to be attached to the magic lesson. That’s right.
I haven’t done anything to be blamed for. The teacher was the one who doubted me, so it would be nice to have an apology.
It’s no use worrying about every little thing. Since the me now is a child, I guess I have no choice but to go along with adult situations.
At any rate, I no longer have trouble finding a place to sleep that can shelter me from the wind and rain and three meals a day.
I’m going to seriously consider the sponsored scholarship scheme that Aurora told me about.
