Since When Was I A God? - chapter 50 Interrogation
Waze poked Egar in the face a few more times. He didn’t seem to be waking up.
“Shit.” Not only did she want to squeeze information out of him, but the guards might break in any second now and she needed him to be awake to tell them off. She wasn’t sure how much longer her rush of power would last, if it would stay till the night was over or if she would collapse within the next minute. She had stopped glowing, but she still felt the power coursing through her, ready for a fight. “Heeeyyyy… wake up….”
She shook him a bit more and got no response. Waze looked around the room for something to wake him up with. She saw a mini fridge tucked under a counter on the side of the room and went over and opened the door. Waze grabbed out a cold water bottle and walked back to Egar. Standing a bit back, she poured the icy water onto his face.
Egar woke up and groaned, blinking a few times as he regained his consciousness. He looked up at Waze with an annoyed expression.
“Wakey wakey, eggs and bakey.” Waze grinned down at him. Egar struggled in the ropes for a moment before going still.
“You tied me up?”
“You can never be too careful, right? Now, I believe we have a deal you need to follow through on,” Waze said. Egar scowled.
“What the hell are you?”
“Hm, I don’t think you’re the one who should be asking the questions in this scenario.” Waze grinned and stepped backwards. She grabbed a chair from the corner of the room and dragged it open to where Egar was laying on the bed. She abruptly sat down. “Now-” Waze was interrupted by a loud knock from the door.
“Hey, boss! Everything ok in there?” The guard shouted through the door. He sounded nervous. Probably didn’t want to get punished for interrupting Egar. “We heard some banging around and stuff…”
Waze glared down at Egar with a threatening look. Egar scoffed.
“Everything’s fine. Get back to your post.” Egar yelled back. Waze gave him a sweet smile.
“Good. Now down to the good stuff.”
“What do you wanna know, kid?” Egar glared up at Waze. They were about eye level now that Waze was sitting down.
“First off, why haven’t the police done anything?” Egar seemed a bit taken back at the question. He was probably expecting something more straightforward like names and locations.
“Thor. That’s what everyone calls the mastermind behind it all. You know, the boss of Ebony itself.” Waze nodded to show she was following. “I guess, he’s got some connections to higher ups in the police force. They don’t exactly shut down investigations as much as they declare Ebony related cases unsolvable.” Waze sat back in her chair. Simple corruption. She gritted her teeth. It still pissed her off.
“Where can I find him?” Waze asked. Egar stiffened.
“You don’t want to. You really don’t want to. Pray you never meet him.” Egar himself looked almost scared at the thought of meeting him.
“He’s that powerful?”
“Step 9. Incredible in combat. Ruthless. Cruel. A girl like you wouldn’t stand a chance.” Waze scowled.
“Says the guy who just got beat up by ‘a girl like me’, and is currently tied up with curtain cords.”
“Yeah, but I’m nothing compared to Thor. I just work under him. Though I am strong, it’s more about smarts and management ability that are the reasons I was chosen to lead the 4th division.” Waze thought that that made sense.
“Well, I still want information on this Thor guy. Just tell me where I can find him.” Waze gave Egar a stern expression. Egar looked down with a serious face.
“Truth be told, he’s never really at one place for long. He floats around, he finds you and not the other way around.” Egar tensed a bit. “Though, there is a club I hear he frequents. It’s really hard to get in, though. Let alone find.”
“What’s it called? How can I get in?” Waze leaned forward, intense in her interrogation.
“Those aren’t questions I can answer. But there is someone who might know. His name’s Cruce. He works at a store called Movies and Candy over by Lee’s Liquor Store. You know, the big one on Eastbound?” Waze nodded. Her street was one street over from Eastbound, so she walked down it often. She’d even been inside the Lee’s there with her mother.
“Cruce at Movies and Candy, right?”
“Yeah. He’ll tell you more than I can about finding Thor. Tell him Edgar Wright sent you. He’ll tell you anything you need to know.” Waze tilted her head in confusion.
“Edgar… Wright…?”
“That’s my real name. Egar is just for business. Don’t go telling everyone though, only a few people I trust know.” Egar grinned. “You beat me fair and square kid. I can’t help you much more than that regarding Thor, but if theres anything else you need to know…?” Waze smiled and pushed her ear piece.
~”Yo Alec, wanna have a chat with Mr. Egar here? He’ll tell you anything.”
~”Shit, sure. Put him on.”
“Here, my friends gonna ask you a few questions, answer honestly, ok?” Waze shoved her ear piece into Egar’s ear, positioning the mic toward his mouth.
She walked away as Egar responded to Alec’s questions, listing off information on the location of the other branches, and who ran them etc. Waze wasn’t really listening, she could get it all from Alec later. For now, she went over to the bathroom. Waze splashed her face off with water and looked in the mirror.
She was a mess. There was dried blood crusted under her nose, and she had a cut on her forehead. She lifted up her shirt to find a sizable bruise under her left rib where Egar had gotten her earlier. Slowly, Waze felt the feeling come back to her body as the power ebbed away. She could feel pain radiating from her gut, and she had a bad headache.
Waze decided she’d just hang out here with Egar until the police got here. She really wasn’t up for any more fights. Every part of her body hurt from overusing her power. Still, she had won. Waze looked up in the mirror and smiled.
She had won.
