Sorceress - Chapter 262
Moving deeper into the area, the group realized that the place is empty. Just like what they expected since they will be venturing a newly discovered uncharted territory.
There is simply nothing worth mentioning about the place. Aside from the fact that the place is bathed with the same color of dried blood.
Setting aside that one factor, the place would look exactly just like a typical wasteland. No trees, no plant, nothing!
There is nothing around them aside from the old mansion house that stood conspicuously at the very center.
“I think we should first check out that house.”
Chan Gu said as he looked around the place.
“You’re right. Considering that it was the only place where we can go now.”
Fan Lei rebutted with a shrug of his shoulder.
With wide strides, Mu Lingxi and her friends head to the direction where the old mansion was located.
“I hope that the ancient chalice won’t trigger something once we take it.”
Long Yue said as they made their way.
Last time, it was he who took the treasure hidden in the land of Echurid. As soon as he took the Scarlet Fire Fruit back then, he accidentally triggers a trap in the land of Echurid.
Resulting in the army of the undead to be unleashed. So this time, he sincerely hopes that history won’t repeat itself.
“Let us just hope for the best.”
Mu Lingxi said with a smile as she halted her steps before the door. She turned around and look at her friends who were walking behind her and waited for them.
“Just as how Schoolmaster Yin instructed us, by no means we should allow the ancient chalice to be open later to avoid unnecessary mishap… Okay??”
Yun Xue reiterated as he looked to his group of friends.
“Of course Yun Xue, we already knew about that,”
Long Yue rebutted as he looked at his friend in a teasing manner. It was as if his eyes were saying
‘Seriously? You really have to say that to us. Do you take us for a fool?’
Before entering the old mansion, Mu Lingxi first tried to knock three times at the massive wooden double door of the house.
After waiting for a couple of seconds, Long Fuzi was the one who reached out his hand towards the doorknob and slowly turned it.
Mu Lingxia and the others waited at the side with anticipation. They wait for Long Fuzi to finally open the door so they could have a look at the interior of the house.
Long Fuzi, on the other hand, tried twsiting the doorknob for about three times before he relented with an exasperated sigh.
“It’s lock..”
“…” Mu Lingxi and the others
Long Fuzi scratched the back of his head as his other hand reach on the inside of his robe to get his wand.
“Alright, I’ll gonna use a spell for this one then.”
As he said that, Long Fuzi waved his wand and muttered,
“XEKLEÍDOMA”
As soon as he was done chanting the unlocking spell;, the doorknob turned by itself and right after that, the massive wooden double door open on its own.
To their surprise, the interior of the place is not affected by the same reddish-brown color that dominates the entire Sanguine Tundra.
It does not have any hint of the sanguine ambient light outside and it works to their liking.
After all, it would really put them on edge if they end up getting trapped inside an abandoned old mansion that looks as if it was covered by dried blood.
Although the interior of the place looked shabby, to say the least, it is still way much better than having a creepy place that looked like a murder scene where many has been massacred.
Observing the interior of the mansion, a large old fashioned chandelier hung from the dark wooden beam that ran down the center of the ceiling.
Twelve branches stretched out from the central base, each one’s formerly silver color now tarnished with a brown hue.
At the end of each arm was a small space, just the right size for a thin candle to slot into, although only one of the spaces was filled.
The feeble glow of that singular candle did a measly job of lighting the room.
Instead, that faint glow only illuminated the chandelier itself and a small section of the rotting ceiling.
That single candle is the only source of light inside the old mansion. It was unclear though how that single candle managed to remain lighted
‘Could it be that someone was residing in the old mansion?’
But their query was soon answered when a gust of wind blows inside. It came from the same door where they previously came in since the door was apparently left ajar.
Despite the wind blowing on the place, the fire of the candle remained unmoved as if it was fixed and placed there to burn for all eternity.
Most likely, some kind of spell was put over that single candle to have it burn like that.
The interior of the house is vast and it was full of antique-looking furniture that was covered with a white cloth.
It would have look grand but the white cloth that almost turned into a dirty white cloth as well as the thick layer of dust that cloaked the area make the place, look the opposite.
It now appears to be shabby instead, most likely because it has been a while now since it was last cleaned.
“Alright, let’s start searching for the ancient chalice so we can leave this place as soon as possible.”
Mu Lingxi said as she beckoned her friends into action
“Sure, we better divide our group into three. I and Long Yue will be going to look at the north part, You and Yun Xue take the east part. While Chan Gu and Fan Lei, you guys will be searching on the west part.”
Long Fuzi was the one to issue the command this time.
The rest of the group have no qualms following his arrangement so they swiftly nodded their head to show their approval.
Before heading to their respective destination, Fan Lei added one last instruction.
“After two hours of searching no matter the result is, we must come back to this point and meet the others, is that clear? This is to ensure that everyone was safe.”
“Yeah, sure..’
The others answered back as they made their way to each of their own designated direction.
Taking the route heading tho the eastern part, Mu Lingxi and Yun Xue made haste just like the others.
The grouping arrangement works well with the rest of the group except for Yun Xue.
He still held some distance away from Su yan (Mu Lingxi) resulting in him to be awkward when he was with this friend of his.
His other friends knew about it, and thinking that these two friends of theirs had a lot of catching up needed, they had a silent agreement to allow the two to be in pairs.
Although, Yun Xue already decided to occasionally approach Su yan (Mu Lingxi). The others can still notice that there seems to be an awkward air between the two.
It was as if there was some beef between them. It was like they were both walking on thin ice whenever they were together.
For some reason, Yun Xue seemed to be awkward when he was with Su Yan (Mu Lingxi) alone.
If others can notice as much as that, of course, Mu Lingxi can definitely felt that there is something wrong as well.
But given the event that keeps on happening around them, and the things that they have to accomplish keep on piling up, she had no time to deal with it.
Given her situation and recent discoveries about her identity, she no longer has the energy and time to worry about these things.
So she just pretended that it was nothing and decided not to pay it any heed at the moment.
Throughout the entire journey, Yun Xue deliberately kept his distance from Mu Lingxi.
Even right now where it was only the two of them left in the place, Yun Xue still remains aloof and adamant in keeping a safe distance away from Su yan (Mu Lingxi).
He was sporting and serious expression on his face as he busied himself searching for every drawer and cabinets left abandoned in the west part of the old mansion.
There is no other noise that can be heard within the western part of the old mansion aside from the sound created by the drawers and cabinets every time they opened and rummage it.
Being unable to stand the awkward silence between them anymore, Mu Lingxi stop what she was doing and looked at Yun Xue who was still busy trying to rummage the place looking for the ancient chalice.
Out of the blue. she directed a question towards Yun Xue.
“Yun Xue, can I asked you about something?”
But instead of answering right away, Yun Xue just looked at her as a response.
There was a slight hint of apprehension in his eyes and his body tensed up a little bit when he heard his friend’s abrupt request.
Waiting no more for an answer, Mu Lingxi fire up her question.
“Do we have a problem?”
