Sorceress - Chapter 374
“Look, Mu Yanxiao, I had to meet with someone and I don’t want to appear rude by being late. So if you could just spare me tonight with your drama. Please, not now. Let us just deal about it some other time.”
Mu Lingxi replied with a nonchalant tone.
If there would be the last thing that Mu Lingxi ever wanted to do, that was to speak and play with Mu Yanxiao’s silly little wordplay.
And if there was also the only one least thing that Mu Lingxi wanted to happen, that was for her benefactor to misinterpret her being late as a sign of rudeness and ungratefulness.
The other party did him a huge favor before that was why Mu Lingxi did not want herself to give him a bad impression about her.
Se definitely did not want to appear bad in front of Yuna Tao of all people.
“Oh’ c’ mon, Lingxi. Are you certain you don’t want to hear it first??? And here I am running and waiting for you all the way here just to relay this piece of news that I managed to learn with a certain amount of effort and difficulty. Then I guest your Brother Gaoyan was not that important for you at all, unlike what I thought him to be. Brother Gaoyan will surely felt disappointed once he learned about this, cousin.”
Mu Yanxiao said with false sincerity. The smirk that she had on her lips gave her away.
Since Mu Yanxiao already knew where Mu Lingxi’s weak spot was, she decided to go aim on it and hit it straight away right at the moment she spoke.
“Mu Yanxiao, you know better than anyone else not to involved my brother on your darned and sick petty jokes!”
Mu Lingxi said in a low tone but with a hint of threat at the edge of her voice. Then with a nonchalant face, she added,
“Now, if you really got some news in him, then spill it!”
His brother Mu Gaoyan means a lot to her, or well at least that was what she knew based on the memory she had from the previous host of her body.
But even though those memories were not exactly hers, to begin with since she was only a transmigrator, her body still held some degree of sentiment over those things.
<A/n: Don’t get confused though. In here, Mu Lingxi was not yet aware that she was the same missing incomplete soul of the previous host of her body >
In any case, theoretically speaking, they were still indeed family-related and there was nothing that hurt more than knowing that one of your family was missing and can be practically out there and was not in a good shape.
Yet you can’t do anything to help him nor you had any idea or news of him on how he was fairing.
Mu Lingxi might look unbothered about this incident on the outside.
But the truth was thinking about her Brother Gaoyan’s well being was really putting her on the edge every day.
She could not help but wonder if how was her brother? If he was alright???
Not to mention that her worries regarding her Brother Gaoyan were atop other of her concerns as well.
Life was never easy for her.
But definitely, nothing was far more important for Mu Lingxi than her brother.
And of all people, Mu Yanxiao should be the most knowledgeable about it.
“Ohh, my dear cousin, well you know how much I cared for our Brother Gaoyan, right?… I certainly cared for him as much as you do! After all, he had been a very good big brother to me as well, all these years.”
Mu Yanxiao said with an overflowing sincerity in her voice and she even put one of her hand across her ċhėst to make it looked more dramatic.
But such poor acting won’t work with Mu Lingxi anymore.
In fact, she even had a doubt if the other party really meant even a quarter of the words of what she just said.
“But unlike you, who apparently do nothing to look into his recent whereabouts, I did. And according to my sources, this is what I found out….”
Mu Yanxiao continued her speech before she leaned closer to Mu Lingxi.
Then to make sure that no one was around that could possibly overhear what she was about to say, Mu Yanxio looked sideways both left and right.
It was only after confirming that no one was there aside from them did she said her next words in a whisper as if she was afraid that someone might hear them.
“I found out that, the Crown Prince was with Brother Gaoyan, the day that he went missing. The Crown Prince, himself, claimed that they had been ambushed by a group of bandits along their way and it just so happened that he managed to escape on his own. Don’t you find it suspicious???”
Mu Yanxiao asked with a raised eyebrow while waiting for her cousin’s response.
“So are you inferring that the Crown Prince was most likely the one who plotted about kidnapping my brother???”
Base on how Mu Yanxiao made her words sound, it seemed that she wanted to say that that the crown prince has something to do with her brother Gaoyan’s disappearance.
“Can’t you see it? No one can account for the validity of the Crown Prince’s claim and no one knew what exactly was their reason for going out privately that day, either. I mean, does it even make sense to you?? Someone ambushed them. Yet, rather than taking the Crown Prince, they took a young general instead??? I mean, that was so pointless, not unless those bandits were complete fools that they could not differentiate the value of a crown prince over a mere general at first glance. What I am thinking is that the Crown Prince was behind all this.”
It took time for Mu Lingxi to process everything that Mu Yanxiao just told her. But when the realization finally dawned on her, she had this weird look on her face.
She could not understand why would the Crown Prince would ever do that thing to her brother, to begin with.
His brother had been very loyal to the royal family.
Her brother had almost given them his life, his time and everything.
To the point that he nearly abandoned his only sister just to served the royal family and do his duty as a general.
That was why Mu Lingxi was really having a hard time coming in terms with what Mu Yanxiao had told her at that moment
Like, why would they do that to a loyal subject, such her Brother Gaoyan??
Their Mu Clan might have fallen out of the good graces of the royal family, partially because of her fault when she ran away from her arranged marriage with Long Fuzi
But as far as she was concerned, that issue was still redeemable.
The quandary between their two families was not that big enough yet for any of them to plot against one another.
