Spartan In Star Wars - Chapter 55
The leaders of the Separatist dead. It left the droids in charge, it took a few moments to register the deaths. This gave Jack and Lantern some extra seconds. While Lantern focused his attention on the droids that finally responded to him after killing a couple more. Jack had to change out his rounds to the blaster bolts. After Jack was able to change out, he and Lantern were able to rotate turns to confuse the droids.
Sadly, the base had thousands if not ten of thousand droids at some point the two clones will be overrun. However, this did not slow them down; they both destroyed around twenty odd droids and steadily retreated through the enemy base. The fighting slowly awoke the entire base allowing for Captain Rex and his group to move towards the generator now.
“Jack! I’m being cut off. I’m gonna have to fall back towards the Vehicle Deport.” The blaster fire around Lantern came blaring over the coms making it almost impossible to hear. With Jack and Lantern being scouts allowed them to pick out the sounds, words, and any slight changes in the environment they previously crossed.
“Same here, I believe they are trying to funnel us there.” Jack kept an eye out and noticed destroyed droids that weren’t previously there when they first started this operation. But he couldn’t stop and investigate. He needed to buy Rex as much time as he could. He quickly sniped another four droids who were in front of the horde and then turned to the Vehicle Depot.
Lantern on the other hand took a second and took a look at the fallen droid that he knew either one of them killed. This ended up being a mistake because as soon after he stopped for more then five seconds the droid’s were actually in range. A blaster bolt grazed the side of his helmet tearing off the lower portion of it. It wasn’t life threatening but it was definitely something he was gonna need some time to recover from.
Both clones finally met up at the depot and took cover on the inside. Four-thousands droids waited outside completely surrounding the building. The current droid commander wanted to make sure they wouldn’t have an escape route. With that in place they began marching into the depot. Each clone took a position that covered at least three entrances. Of course they couldn’t handle them all themselves but they would at least be able to slow the advance slightly.
*Radio* “Jack the Charges are set, retreat if you can!”
“It’s been a p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e serving with you Captain. Don’t blow them until you hear our signal.”
“We are coming for you. Hold on.”
“Rex! Go! We are completely surrounded, and will be taking roughly thousands of droids with us. Just remember us.”
“Jack. 300 strong.”
“300 strong sir.”
*Radio ends*
“Lantern we are on our own. Are you gonna be alright with that wound?”
“Not that it matters! Focus.”
Lantern returned his focus on the droids entering from the main vehicle entrance. Destroying ten droids before flipping towards another laying waste to a few more. Seconds past what felt like minutes. The sea of droids kept pouring into the deport. Sounds from behind could be heard. Lantern took note that the droids were climbing the cat walks. Both clones stopped focusing on the ones coming from the front and now change to cover the hallways from behind.
In another thirty seconds the clones would be completely trapped. Jack looked towards his partner and nodded. Lantern pulled out a small blinking device and prepared to click the button. They turned and retreated to a dead end hallway to buy any second that they could. They awaited for the droids to turn.
“Goodbye Brother.”
“Thanks for everything Jack.” Lantern clicked the button setting off a chain reaction in the hanger of the vehicles. “For Freedom…what?”
Rex saw a massive chain explosion happened just before they entered the tunnels. He took a glance offering a few moments of silence to his two brothers and turned to escape through the tunnel. “Set it.” Another explosion burst into flames as the generator went off but none of the clones celebrated and quietly moved towards the exit. Although Solemn and filled with regret they absorbed this moment and pushed forward. They will fulfill the wishes of the fallen. Rex took it the hardest. Both of them served with him in his original unit on Kamino. Angry at his weakness, he needed strength to push forward.
