Spider Prince - Chapter 1
At night, on my birthday, I sat on the windowsill. My solemn eyes watched as cars flitted past down there. “Li Er! Come downstairs for dinner!” Ah, that’s right. Li, that’s what my name is.
It’s not as if my birthday is considered a day of excitement, nor a day of sadness. It’s just.. dull. Just like every day. I think of how this is supposed to be a special day, then realize it’s really like every other day. At most we eat dinner and sing a birthday song. Not a single sweet to be eaten. I wonder how it is for other people. In my class, during birthdays, if you have school, the whole class sings happy birthday to you. However, mine is on a dreadful Saturday.
To be honest, school days are far more interesting than weekends. However, it isn’t the time to think about that.
…
After dinner, I sat at the windowsill again. Thinking of how high up we lived, if I fell, it would mean instant death. I live on the 20th floor. Painful.
But, I decided to stand up anyway. Test and see if I would fall. Certainly, I will. I may be glad if I do. However, right when I stood up, the door flew open.
“Hey! My dear brother, how are you doing?” Er Roa, my older brother, walked in. His appearance startled me, causing me to lose my balance.
I fell off the windowsill, crashing into the hard concrete and breaking all my bones. The world around me darkened, ending the scene of my sudden, and quite unexpected and ridiculous, death.
…
I woke up yet again, confused. But then, I was greeted with unfamiliar surroundings. There was a pond-like body of water in the middle, and it wasn’t indoors. There was slightly tall fence surrounding the perimeter, blocking out any chances of someone being able to peep. I suppose it’s used for bathing, as soap and shampoo was neatly piled next to it. Close to the pond was a building, where you can freely leave and enter this place.
It took me a while to realize I was… Well, I sure wasn’t a human. I looked down at my “feet” and saw 8 slim spider legs. In fact, my sight was kind of blurry and my eyes hurt deeply. I blinked, causing my stiff 8 eyes to move in a closing and opening motion. However, the pain intensified and it hurt way more than intended.
What almost shocked me the most, though, was that a girl was standing in the middle of the room. She seemed to have just finished showering as her hair was wet, her face flushed. She finished putting on her robe and looked at the mirror in her hand.
She was fixing her hair when a voice interrupted her. “Shi Man! Father is calling you!” The voice was gentle and seemed to be a female’s. When the girl heard it, her expression changed, but she reluctantly replied. “I’ll be there in a second!”
I was situated on the door and was so tiny that no one would be able to see me unless they got close enough. As the girl rushed over, I desperately hoped she wouldn’t notice me.
The girl then proceeded to trip on a rock and bang her head on the door. But, when she collided with the door, her soft lips hit against my tiny legs, and her eyes also widened in shock as she had indeed noticed me.
A ray of light then hit against her and she was ruthlessly pushed away. I could feel something trying to expand my body, and also enter it, as I was in intense pain. After a few minutes, I looked around weakly. I could feel a little bit of cobweb stuck to my head, and the pain from before significantly subsided, but in the end I was still in pain.
I looked down at my now human body, then at the girl. She was out cold on the floor, and her arm was slightly injured.
Feeling this was my fault, even though I was the one bleeding the most, I mustered all my strength forth and got up. I walked towards her, picked her up, and ventured inside the building.
Another female, older than the one in my arms, was surprised to see me. I couldn’t focus on how she looked, though, as I felt myself fainting. I was falling backwards, and memories slowly rushed to my head at this moment for some reason.
Ah, it really hurt.
