Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 347
Reuben had been to this place multiple times and he always reserved the same room on the top floor.
Therefore, he did not stop at the reception to ask for any details nor did the receptionist try to stop this group being led by Reuben Ming, the CEO of Ming Enterprises.
The bosses went ahead but the assistants had stopped as they had another work to do.
Mathew was surrounded by men who were trying to get a chance to meet Reuben to pitch their project idea to him.
‘All I wanted was a free meal from the Emperor so why am I being pestered again?’ He cried out as he tried to dissuade the businessman asking for a meeting with his boss.
With practiced ease, Mathew began requesting them to reach out to Ming Enterprises and informed them that their boss was not here on official duty.
‘Let the man have some time with his girlfriend for God’s sake!’ He scowled but the smile on his face never faded.
While Mathew was dealing with the older men who had seen Reuben entering the building, Benji was also dealing with a couple of men.
Once he was done talking to the older men, Mathew walked over to Benji who was conversing with the young masters from a second-tier family.
‘Aren’t these two still in college? Why are they in this part of the city instead of being in class?’ He recollected the information he had on these men who were brothers.
“So can I get the phone number?” One of the men inquired as he held his phone to Benji.
Mathew almost fell to the floor when he saw the brave and open young man who was asking Benji for his number.
‘So he had this preference?’ He wondered and stood next to the assistant who was staring at the phone.
“You can give him your number if you like him. I’m sure Lina will not have a problem.” He whispered into Benji’s ears which he responded with a vicious glare.
“They want Nana’s number!!” He snarled at the man who was thinking too much.
This revelation made Mathew choke as he stared at the young men with his eyes wide open.
‘They want to die an early death!?’ He glowered at the brave young men who would have died in the hands of the Emperor if they were even a minute faster.
What the assistants did not know was that these brothers had spotted Lina before she had entered the building.
However, the man who was walking next to her was emitting a menacing aura that was suffocating and did not allow them to get closer.
Once he had left, the two men had come over to Benji as they had seen him following after Lina and holding the door open for her which meant that he was an assistant.
“Madam is unavailable so I will have to decline your generous offer.” Benji gave his final answer in an emotionless and rigid voice.
The young man’s face turned ugly but before he could throw a fit, Benji had turned away and left the lobby with Mathew by his side.
As the assistants began walking away, the curious little guy leaned closer to the big man.
“What offer?” Mathew investigated what he had just heard.
“A million for Nana’s number.” Benji replied and shrugged when he saw the astonished look on his face.
The youngsters were bribing the assistant to gain the boss’ number and personal details but Benji was not any ordinary employee who would sell his boss out for a meager sum of money.
“What made you reject the money?” Mathew prodded as he yearned to know more about the relationship he had with Lina.
Benji looked at the assistant with disgust evident in his eyes following which he let out a mocking chuckle.
“I earn more than that each month.” He disclosed his salary leaving the other assistant dumbstruck.
‘Isn’t Lina just a consultant at Obsidia…? She can pay her assistant such a hefty sum which even I as the CEO’s assistant don’t get?’ Mathew’s confused thoughts were all over his face.
Benji had kept an eye on his expressions which brought an appreciative smile over his face.
This smile was thanks to the discovery he had made right now.
‘So that man did not leak Lina’s secret identity as LY to his assistant.’ He was pleased with Reuben for remaining tight-lipped about the secrets his boss holds.
Silence took over the two men after this brief exchange as they headed towards the private room that Mathew had booked according to the instructions given by his boss.
However, on the way, they had met Reuben who was leaning against the wall while tapping the screen of the phone in his hand.
“Where’s Nana?” Benji questioned when found that she was nowhere to be seen.
Reuben raised his head and pointed his chin in a certain direction after which he went back to looking at the phone.
The assistants turned in the direction he had pointed and found the ladies restroom present there.
Understanding flashed their eyes as they nodded and stood in wait for her to exit the restroom.
“Boss you will not believe what just happened!” Mathew began in an excited tone while they waited for Lina to arrive.
Benji looked at the enthusiastic man and rolled his eyes as he knew what he was about to announce.
Reuben gave him an indifferent glance but that was enough for the talkative assistant to narrate what had taken place after he and Lina had left.
With every word Mathew spoke, Reuben’s eyes narrowed as he gritted his teeth at the audacity of the young men who had dared to ask for his Kitten’s number.
Though he could feel the temperature drop due to the boss’s anger, Mathew made it a point to finish the entire story.
‘He did the right thing.’ Reuben praised Benji in his heart but continued to leer at him for having offended him earlier.
Recalling how he had been mocked and not being able to kiss his Kitten coupled with the fact that someone had tried to hit on his girlfriend was making his mood sour all over again.
This was when Benji smirked as he leaned closer to his ear and whispered something that had brought up goosebumps all over his body.
“Don’t be mad, Ruby~” Benji imitated the tone which Lina often used when she was with Reuben.
Mathew at first was surprised to hear the big guy attempting to imitate Lina but the expression of disgust and cringe on his boss’s face made it for him impossible to stay silent.
His laughter egged Benji on, making him join in on the fun and laugh to his heart’s content.
Reuben’s glares were not being taken seriously which was a big blow for him.
One was his assistant who was going on a leave soon and the other was his Kitten’s assistant whom he could not touch.
This left him with only one option which he took without hesitation.
‘If I have to blackmail this guy to shut him up and leave me alone then I do not see the harm in doing so.’ He shrugged as a devilish smirk appeared on his face.
The fear that was absent on Mathew’s face was reemerging as he continued with his threats proving that he had taken the right step.
Very soon, the assistants had left him alone and fled in the direction of the separate room that was reserved for them.
Reuben came back from his thoughts when he heard footsteps coming his way causing him to turn in its direction.
