Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 348
Lina looked at her face in the mirror and rolled her eyes at the woman she saw before her.
‘You could not control until we entered the private room?’ She scowled at her bladder which was responsible for the embarrassment she had faced earlier.
She had strode away with Reuben but only to halt midway to the private room he had booked for her.
The reason?
She had to pee!
‘Shouldn’t have drank that lemonade!’ She cursed her greedy stomach that had chugged the refreshment while playing with Leon Jiu in her office room back at Obsidia.
The drinks had worked their magic and the need to relieve herself was greater than the embarrassment she would have to face.
Thankfully, Reuben did not ridicule her and even escorted her towards the ladies’ restroom.
Lina sighed in satisfaction now that she had completed the task she had come in here for.
Glancing at her face in the mirror, she splashed water onto her face and wiped herself dry with the tissues placed on the counter.
She then went on to apply a generous layer of lip gloss and smacked her lips to even it out.
Pleased with her present look, Lina adjusted her high ponytail and picked up her purse with the intention to leave the restroom after she was done using the place.
Her hand reached the handle of the door and just as she was about to pull the door towards her to open it, she stopped when she heard something interesting.
‘Oh? What is this we have here?’ She smirked playfully as she eavesdropped on the conversation without an ounce of shame or guilt.
___
A few minutes earlier,
With his back resting against the wall, Reuben played with his phone as he waited for his Kitten to arrive.
‘She’s like a child sometimes.’ He remarked when he recalled the pleading look that had appeared on her face.
They were on their way to the private when she had made the strange request, however, he did not hesitate to lead her towards a restroom which was nearby.
As he continued to wait for her, Reuben came to the conclusion of checking on her before they left any place as his Kitten behaved like a child who forgets to pee at times.
While at other times she was a witty and intelligent adult who has bright and cunning ideas to get what she wants.
Hearing footsteps, Reuben raised his head and turned in the direction of the sound with a smile on his face.
‘She finally came out!’ He exclaimed as he had been waiting for her to return for many minutes now.
However, the smile which appeared soon faded upon realizing that the person who was approaching him was not his Kitten.
By a sheer stroke coincidence, he was well acquainted with the person who had popped up in this hallway.
“Senior Ming?” The woman stepping in his direction called out with a wide smile gracing her lean face.
Reuben’s smile dropped and in its place was the same indifferent expression that many people had seen and believed to be the only expression that he was capable of making.
“Junior Gu.” He nodded at the woman who was now standing right before him.
Helen Gu, his junior in college and a previously favorite architect was smiling ear to ear that she had met her crush after a long time at this unexpected place.
The busy woman was invited to this restaurant to discuss a business deal with a top-tier company.
She had come out of the room to answer a personal phone call and on her way back to the room, she had chanced upon the man who was leaning against the wall.
‘He looks better than the last time I saw him.’ Helen Gu gave him a single glance as she scrutinized his entire body in one go.
The last time they had met was at his office after she had confessed her love to him.
Not only had he rejected her love at the parking lot of that restaurant, but he had also rejected the hard work she had made for the project he was investing in.
On that day, she had left that office room with a promise buried deep inside her heart to come back when she was eligible to stand by his side with her head held high.
Ever since she had vowed to herself to improve her skills, she did not appear before him.
She spent her time working harder, studying, and learning from better and more experienced architects.
‘I worked hard, Senior Ming… I worked hard for us!’ She stared at his face which was the best she had ever seen.
He had been harsh when he rejected her love, it hurt her when she saw the annoyance in his eyes when she had confessed her feelings.
She was aware of his one-track mind which only wished to focus on his business but she had hope that he would look her way.
‘Maybe I wasn’t brilliant enough to attract his attention.’ She had coaxed her aching heart that the fault laid in her inefficiencies, making him not view her as a partner on par with his standard.
The feelings she had buried in her heart to stay strong and optimistic as she grew as a person worthy of him were now resurfacing as she looked at him.
“It has been a long time, Senior Ming. How have you been?” She finally spoke after a long silence.
Reuben was feeling irritated that she kept staring at him with no intention of speaking up but that had subdued when he heard her question.
Their last meeting had been an unpleasant one as he was mad at her for the project she had messed up, the kiss that she had almost forced on him, and the paparazzi shot that had been leaked on the social media sites.
“I’ve been good.” He answered without any fluctuations in his tone as the indifference he always had was present this time as well.
Helen smiled bitterly when she noticed his lack of enthusiasm while answering to her query.
He did not even bother to ask her how she had been and where she had disappeared to all these days.
Helen’s eyes dimmed when she realized that he had not even noticed her absence in his life for this brief period of time.
“Did you manage to get another architect for that project?” She inquired, not willing to give up this beautiful opportunity to converse with him.
Reuben did not have to pause for a single second to think of which project she had asked about.
‘I found my Kitten for that project!’ He recalled as his stiff eyebrows softened.
The gaming arena project that Helen had botched was later given to Lina who had managed to salvage the situation and even did a great job while she was at it.
‘Her design was worth every penny I paid.’ He declared as the smile only brightened while thinking of that beautiful woman.
Helen’s eyes remained fixated on his face as she witnessed the smile blossoming, something which she had never seen before.
Unaware of the woman who had been eavesdropping on their conversation, Reuben and Helen both had smiles on their faces.
Reuben smiled as he recalled the brilliance of his Kitten’s design and also because this design was how he had discovered her secret identity as LY.
On the other hand, Helen smiled in a daze at seeing his lips curved upward.
