Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 350
Helen Gu could not believe the words she was hearing from Senior Ming’s mouth.
‘He called her his girlfriend…’ She widened her eyes and gazed at the two standing together.
She had only been away for a little over a month and had come back to find that the man she was working hard to stand on an equal level with already had another woman by his side.
‘Why is she stuck to him like glue!?’ She glowered as her eyes went to the lack of space between their bodies.
As much as Lina was glad to be called Reuben’s girlfriend before this woman, she did not appreciate the demeaning look that had been aimed at her.
Reuben looked down at the Kitten who was trying to move away from him and this only made him hold onto her tighter than before.
“What are you afraid of?” He whispered playfully into her ear after watching her twist and turn in a futile attempt to extricate herself from his grasp.
These words sounded like a taunt in her ear which made her look up at him with her eyebrows raised in amusement.
‘You think I am afraid of this lady?’ She scoffed while gazing into his eyes.
As though he had understood what she was thinking at this moment, Reuben gave her a righteous nod to show that his assumption was true.
Lina’s eyes narrowed at him following which she harrumphed and stayed still in his arms, forgetting all about her plans to separate their bodies from this intimate position.
‘I cannot let him know that I was insecure because of this woman! But most importantly how can I show weakness before her?’ She decided to stay where she was as her eyes turned towards the woman before them.
Reuben smirked when he saw her obedient and docile behavior.
‘She is so easy to tease! I don’t even have to put in any extra efforts.’ He shook his head when he realized how she would react just the way he wanted her to.
Lina was unaware of the trick that she had fallen for without her knowledge as she continued to face the other woman.
Helen’s eyes were taking in every action of theirs and she had just received the front row tickets to watching her Senior Ming flirting with another woman.
As she met Lina’s gaze, she finally had the chance to make a proper look at the woman who was on the receiving end of Reuben Ming’s indulgence.
This caused her eyes to widen as she had seen this woman before.
‘At Clover!’ She recalled the name of the restaurant that she had invited her Senior for a meal in order to discuss the project of the gaming arena.
There, his attention had been on another woman who was passing by with the PR Director of Obsidia Designs, Ivan Zhou.
‘He said that he was looking at Ivan but I guess it was her who was at the center of his attention.’ She grieved that she had believed his words back then.
Reuben had not paid attention to Helen’s changing expressions and thus he had missed out on the betrayed expression she had now as she stared at him.
However, Lina wasn’t as oblivious as she had caught that look which screamed that she had been cheated by this man.
‘I wonder what that was all about…’ She mulled over the cause for the weird expression.
“I have seen this Miss somewhere…” Helen muttered as she stared at Lina’s face as though she was searching for something.
These words brought a sense of panic and slight embarrassment to Reuben’s face.
This was due to the fact that he was also reminded of the meal they had shared for the discussion of the project which he had revoked from her later on.
‘I was staring at Kitten when she had arrived at the restaurant that day.’ He reminisced which made him realize that he had his eyes on her for quite a long time.
This thought brought joy to his heart and even if he was embarrassed that his secret would soon be revealed, he did not mind it.
‘Wouldn’t it be great if she knows that she was the one I had eyes on for a long time?’ He nodded, pleased with this advancement.
Lina on the other hand shook her head to what she had heard.
“I do not think that we had met before today.” She answered truthfully without hesitation.
‘But I did see your face in Ruby’s bedroom and that media article.’ She added in her heart how she knew this woman.
Helen seemed dissatisfied with this answer as she continued to look at her from top to bottom.
‘Okay, now I am uncomfortable.’ Lina frowned after noticing her searching gaze.
Reuben was keeping watch over his Kitten and had realized that she was not liking this interaction anymore.
Therefore, being the knight in shining armor, he decided to make her feel better.
“You must have someone waiting for you, Junior Gu. We will not keep you here any longer.” He announced and nodded at her.
‘He might be using diplomatic and polite words but he is asking her to get lost.’ Lina bit her lip to stop the surprised guffaw that was about to erupt from her.
Helen Gu was not an idiot and had grasped the meaning hidden in his words.
‘He wants me to leave him alone so that he can spend time with this woman…’ She understood what he was trying to say.
His words cut deep into her heart as she let out a soft chuckle.
“Of course, Senior Ming. It was great meeting you here.” She chirped, not allowing the sad emotions in her heart to appear on her face.
‘Hmm?’ Lina did not move her eyes away as she continued to observe her face.
“Hope to see you again, Senior Ming.” Helen smiled at the man who did not respond to her.
‘Is she treating me like I am non-existent?’ Lina scowled when she noticed that her presence was being disregarded.
‘Look at me!’ The young man was jealous that his Kitten had eyes fixed on someone else when he was right next to her.
Reuben held her waist tighter which made her look up at him only to find that he was narrowing his eyes at her.
‘Eh? What have I done wrong to deserve this?’ She wondered and tilted her head as she tried to recall whether she had wronged him in any way.
“And you too, Miss Yang.” Helen’s words brought their attention back on her.
She was stunned to see how her Senior had diverted Lina’s attention from her and onto himself.
This made her dissatisfied but when she saw him looking over at her, she smiled as her mood brightened once again.
She did not wish to be asked to leave by the man she gave her heart to so she decided to make a move now.
“See you soon.” She repeated and turned around as she began walking away without looking back.
Lina and Reuben stood in the same place and watched as she disappeared from their sight.
Only then did Reuben tug on her waist and turn them around as their room was in the opposite direction.
Glancing down, he found her to be in deep thought which made him wonder what she was thinking about.
