Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 358
“Boss, this…” Mathew Kim muttered and soon gulped after feeling the lethal aura surrounding his boss.
He stopped right after that word had escaped his lips.
___
A few minutes earlier,
After they had left the restaurant, the boss and assistant headed straight to their office building.
Once they had reached their office, they dived back into work mode and began working hard to finish their work on time.
It was Reuben’s first day at work after his absence due to ill health while it was Mathew’s last day for the foreseeable future on account of his paternity leave which would begin tomorrow.
This meant that they would have to finish most of the piled up work to lessen the workload of the CEO.
The following couple hours after their return was spent in the conference hall as they met with a few other business partners and different department heads from the Ming Enterprises.
Mathew and Reuben had just finished their meetings and returned to the CEO’s private office room when someone had arrived soon after.
Mathew smiled as he opened the door for the other man who had made an appearance.
“Oh, so you have arrived, Big Bro Trigger!” He exclaimed and went forward to hug the man who had just entered the room.
Trigger, a tall and slightly tanned man displayed a disgusted face as he placed his hand on Mathew’s forehead, holding him in place and not allowing him to take another step forward.
Mathew pouted when he was being treated like a kid and was kept at an arm’s distance from the tall man.
Reuben rolled his eyes at the interaction between his cheery assistant who always tried to reach out for a hug and his reserved head of security who never allowed him to get closer.
Trigger was more than ten years older than Mathew and treated him like a baby brother but this little brother loved to stick close to him which tended to be annoying at times.
After his earlier pouting session, the assistant huffed in mock anger and crossed his arms across his chest as he stepped away from Trigger.
This only made the older man pat his head lovingly as he turned to greet the boss who had been ignored until now.
“Boss!” He called out and bowed his head in a respectful manner.
Reuben waved his hand and let him raise his head after which he looked at the two men who stood before his desk.
“Make sure you explain everything to Trigger properly and also give him my schedule.” He instructed and received a nod from the assistant.
During Mathew’s leave, the responsibilities of the CEO’s assistant would be passed on to this man.
Trigger nodded in acceptance as he was told beforehand that he would need to accompany and assist their Young Master as his stand-in assistant until Mathew returned.
“I will make sure to explain everything, Boss!” Mathew declared while thumping his chest to strengthen his words.
‘I will be glad as long as you don’t mess things up for me.’ Reuben shot him a distrustful glance which made the other man pout all over again.
Trigger remained silent while watching their usual back and forth interactions before he cleared his throat to get their attention.
Reuben and Mathew turned their eyes in his direction and quietened down after noticing the serious look in his eyes.
“Our men found someone following you around, Master.” He disclosed the information he had gained from the secret guards that protected Reuben from the shadows.
Hearing these words, Reuben’s eyes turned cold as a certain person came to his mind.
‘Is Uncle still keeping an eye on me?’ He scoffed at the uncle from the side branch who was getting bolder each day.
Not too long ago, he had heard from Trigger that someone was watching his movements at his apartment and now there was someone who was following him around.
He already had an inkling of who the culprit behind this trick might be.
‘There was someone who was keeping an eye at my comings and goings at the apartment and now someone was following me around.’ He sneered as he clued the pieces together.
Just this morning he heard from Priscilla Lin about the inquiry of his health which concluded that she knew about his ill health when no one else did.
The most simple explanation to this was that she had heard about this from Mason’s father, his uncle who was keeping an eye on him.
“What did you find?” He looked up at his head of security as he asked this important question.
He had been with Lina today so the chances of their relationship being exposed was high.
‘I cannot let uncle try to harm Kitten.’ He clenched his teeth and the aura around him grew menacing with each second.
Trigger did not make his Master wait any longer as he handed the phone over to him.
Reuben tapped on the screen and his eyes caught sight of the numerous photos that were saved on it.
“Boss, this…” Mathew’s eyes widened after he had peeked to take a look for himself.
The Emperor was now emitting a deadly and terrifying aura as he swiped across the screen to look at the photos.
Photos of him and Lina with the assistants as they arrived at the restaurant, them entering and even exiting the same place.
There were even photos of Lina and Reuben parting ways after they exited the restaurant.
Lina left with her assistant and after a while he and his assistant had departed in their car.
These scenes were perfectly captured in the photos that were present on the phone.
Reuben did not utter a single word as he passed the photos onto his phone to be saved on his personal drive following which he deleted each one of them.
Trigger and Mathew stood with their backs stiff and soon heard the sound of the phone in their Master’s hand crack as he gripped it hard in his hands.
The screen cracked under the pressure that he was exerting on it and within seconds the phone had become unusable due to his angered actions.
“The originals?” He inquired as he tossed the broken phone aside.
Mathew shuddered as he glanced at the poor phone who had lost its life due to the Emperor’s andth.
“The memory card from the camera was extracted and these were the only copies available that I had saved to show them to you, Master.” Trigger answered in a precise manner and did not beat around the bush.
The nod of approval he gained from his Master proved that he had done the right thing.
Before Reuben could ask for more details, he gave a thorough explanation of what had happened.
The guards had caught a man sitting in a car opposite the building where the restaurant was located.
At first, the guards had not noticed him because there were many paparazzi in this area as they tried to find juicy gossip they could sell at a high price to the right media house.
“He got caught when he tried to get clearer shots of you and the Madam.” He made sure to use the right way to address Lina as he had been previously told to do.
