Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 365
As Jeanette and her uncle continued to converse about their plans for Lina’s destruction by using Talia Zheng as their pawn to work hard on their behalf, the one being schemed against was frowning.
‘Ugh! What is your problem!?’ The woman on the medium-sized bed scowled as she rolled over to the other side.
Lina’s drowsy state made it difficult for her to comprehend what was happening around her but she was sure of one thing and that was the fact that she was getting irked by the continuous disturbance.
Grabbing the pillow, she covered her head under the fluffy softness as she tried to forget about the annoying sounds chiming at regular intervals.
After the young heiress of the Yang Clan had completed the basic sketches of a couple of the jewelry pieces, the exhaustion had lulled her to sleep.
Her heavy eyes refused to open up even when she tried hard to snap out of her drowsy state, mostly because her body did not wish to move out of the comfort of the bed.
But, as it turns out there was someone who was against her lazy behavior and decided to wake her up at all costs.
*Ding Dong*
The bell, which she had been hearing for quite some time now, was heard once again.
Snapping her eyes open, there was fury in those hazel irises as she sat up with a start.
“The heck do you want!?” She growled and rubbed her sore neck muscles which had been the cause of her exhaustion.
Lina tugged on her messy deep violet hair and glanced around the room to find her bearings.
‘Ah, I’m in the hotel room…’ She recollected where she was as the drowsiness soon began to fade away.
Her sleep had been disturbed midway and it was a valid reason for her to be as grumpy as she was at this moment.
Placing her bare feet on the cold floor, she felt herself coming back to her senses and stifled a yawn.
*Ding Dong*
The action of stretching her limbs out like a little kitten was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell which was heard for the fifth time.
“Coming, dammit!” She muttered to herself as she rose from the bed.
Lina Yang, the sole heiress of the Yang family was scratching her butt as she strode at a leisurely pace towards the door to take a look at the person creating such a nuisance.
Not a care for her appearance as she walked, just a couple of steps away from the door.
‘If that is Benji who has come back to remind me about something else then I swear I will punch him in the throat!’ She pumped her fist in the air as she prepared herself to inflict some pain if it truly was that guy.
She did not bother to take a look at who it was through the peephole as she took in a deep breath and raised her hand towards the door.
A couple of clicks were heard before the door unlocked from the inside where she was.
Rubbing her groggy eyes, she pulled the door open, and just as she had thought, there was a man in a business suit standing outside her door.
The man had his back towards the door and it appeared as though he was looking down, probably at his phone as he waited for the door to be opened.
Hearing the clicks, the man finally turned around and Lina’s hand which had been prepared to punch her assistant’s throat halted midair.
“Woah, Kitten!” The man who had been paying attention to his phone was startled to see that he was about to be punched the moment he turned around.
His hand moved in reflex as he held onto the soft yet strong fist which had been clenched tight.
Based on the trajectory, the man was sure that her fist was aimed at his throat which was a vital zone to attack any opponent to ensure that they would feel the pain.
Lina’s widened eyes had no trace of the grogginess as every last bit of it had vanished when she saw who was standing outside her door.
“Why are you here!?” Her voice was louder than what she had intended it to be due to the surprise she had received after seeing him here.
Reuben had one hand holding her fist still floating in the air while the other hand had now placed a finger over her lips in an attempt to quiet her down.
‘Shit, I was louder than usual!’ She exclaimed and hurried to look around.
Her tiny head with hair scattered over her shoulders peeked outside the door and looked to the right and left before she let out a sigh.
‘No one came out!’ She was glad that she had not caused any disturbance to the other guests staying at the hotel.
Realizing that something wasn’t right, she puckered her lips and this was when she felt that the man before her had not yet moved his finger away from her lips.
“Umm… Rhuby? Cann yu move your fingerr?” She spoke while his finger was pressing down on her lips causing her words to sound weird as she uttered them.
Reuben Ming let out a chuckle after hearing her strange words and nodded as he took his finger away.
“Won’t you invite me inside, Kitten?” He inquired with raised brows which made her feel embarrassed that she had kept him waiting outside for so long.
Immediately, she stepped out of the way and gestured for him to enter.
Reuben released his hold over her little clenched fist and walked into the room, soon after which the door was shut.
Lina was confused as she watched him walk towards the couch and take his seat as though he owned the place.
He was wearing the same suit that she had seen him in when she left the restaurant.
However, Reuben’s eyes were scanning her current appearance in the blue pajamas.
‘Looks like she was asleep before I arrived.’ He guessed after glancing at her clothing.
He had hit the bullseye as she was indeed lost in the wonderful world of dreams before he had disturbed her.
The knobs in Lina’s head were turning as she began to make sense of the present situation.
‘I was expecting Benji so why is he here?’ She wondered as she shot him a suspicious look.
“How did you find me?” She interrogated without beating around the bush.
She was sure that she had never given him the name of the hotel that she would be staying at as she was also clueless about it.
It was Benji who had dealt with all of these details and she had not bothered to interfere so there was no way that she could have let Reuben know about this.
So, the question in her mind was how had he figured out where she was staying and why had he come over when she had explained everything about her seclusion period.
Noticing her searching gaze, Reuben did not mind it as he let out a chuckle and patted the space beside him on the couch as he gestured for her to take a seat next to him.
“I have my sources.” He answered and enjoyed the eye roll that she had given him.
