Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 368
Lina’s smile was from ear to ear when she saw the international news being read was about her company.
{Obsidia’s new launch has taken the market by storm}
The highlight that scrolled on the screen was followed by the anchor explaining what this jewelry based company had done to gain this fame.
Lina’s company had started with just her using the identity of LY as the sole designer.
However, over time, Lina had taken in other designers who were just as talented as her.
The pieces that they created would be sold under the name of Obsidia Designs and a small part of the profit from selling their designs would go into their pockets.
They received fame as the designer and royalty for their hard work which was a lot for them.
Lina was not an oppressive boss and gave each of her in-house designers a benevolent contract.
Though they could not sell their designs to any other company while they worked for Obsidia, they were free to do so once the contract period came to an end.
‘They can start their own company or renew their contract to continue working for me.’ She had this thought in mind while making that contract.
She might be a considerate boss but at the same time, she was not someone who would tolerate betrayal without retaliating.
Any breach of the contract would automatically take away all of the royalties they were receiving and they would also have to pay an exorbitant fee to the company.
In the branch where she worked now, there was no such star designer for jewelry but there was one for the clothing line, Stephen Jin.
He had signed the same contract that her star designers from the other branches had signed when they pledged their allegiance to her and her company.
These employees had never met the CEO or LY but they worked under the guidance of the Vice Presidents she had chosen for each of the branches.
The North American branch was under Benji before he had come over to join her.
‘Daddy was kind enough to step in.’ She chuckled at the man who was jumping when she had asked for his aid.
The European branch was under the care of her brother Wind who seemed through the news report, had done an excellent job at managing it.
Finally, the Asian branch which had just started to gain its foothold in the industry was being looked after by her cousin, Wade.
“What’s so funny?” Reuben inquired when he heard her soft laughter after she heard the news being read.
He knew that she was LY, the biggest designer of Obsidia Designs but he could not understand the reason for her laughter.
“Just thought of my dad.” She looked up and answered him.
Reuben tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear and kissed her forehead while nodding.
“Do you miss him?” He asked a stupid question whose answer was very obvious.
‘I miss my mom and dad when they are just a few hundred miles away from me while her parents are oceans apart.’ He ridiculed his dumb brain for asking that.
Lina did not mind his question and nodded in answer.
‘I have to tell him about them sooner or later so why not now?’ She shrugged and decided that this was the best time to speak to him.
“My parents stay in America where we moved soon after I turned twelve.” She revealed her past information.
Reuben knew the Yangs were residing in this city but one day the main branch decided to move away, leaving the entire business that the first son had managed into the hands of the second son, Patrick Yang.
He knew that the Luo twins who were related to the Yangs through marriage but he did not know the inside information as he was still young and uninterested in those matters at that time.
Ten years ago, when he had come back from his heir training and had his accidental kiss with Lina was the year that they had moved away.
The Luo twins continued to reside in the Yang Manor but he had never once gone there to meet them.
‘In fact, I have never been to Kitten’s birth home until this day.’ He realized and decided that he should make the trip someday.
He and his best friends either met at Luo Residence or Ming’s Old Residence so he has never gotten this chance before.
But now, he was going to take the time to visit her there when she finished her seclusion period in this hotel room.
‘Where did he lose himself?’ Lina wondered when she saw the thoughtful look on his face.
The man snapped out of his thoughts and nodded, indicating her to continue.
“Our family of four… Oh, I forgot to tell you that I have an elder brother who’s three years older than me.” She disclosed another vital piece of information about her family.
“I know.” He answered much to her surprise.
Reuben shook his head at the forgetful Kitten and reminded her of the time when her brother had video called her while they were in Benji’s house.
‘That man is younger than me but his menacing eyes made me hide on that day.’ He recalled and now felt embarrassed that he had done such a cowardly deed.
“Right! He’s my elder brother, Windsor Yang but we call him Wind.” She introduced the one person who had always supported her in her every endeavor.
When Reuben noticed that her cheerful face had turned gloomy, he hooked her chin and made her look at him.
“What is it?” He investigated the cause for the sudden mood swing.
Lina paused for a couple of seconds as though she was debating whether to let Reuben know about this detail or not.
Coming to a conclusion, she looked into his eyes and his heart ached when he saw the grievance overflowing from those hazel eyes.
“My brother stays in Europe… Due to his work there.” She explained while keeping certain aspects hidden.
She saw him a nod and moved along with her explanation.
“I know that he is a busy man and has to travel a lot for his work but he always made time to talk to me once every few weeks.” She let out what had been weighing her down.
Reuben’s arms held her tight when he saw her fighting back the tears which had developed in her eyes.
“It’s almost been a month since he last contacted me.” She whispered in a hoarse voice.
“I’m worried that something must have…” She stopped her words, afraid that she would say something terrible.
However, the ominous thoughts in her head were swirling around just like the tears swimming in her eyes.
“Have you tried to contact him?” Reuben spoke for the first time and his words were the most logical inquiry anyone would make in this situation.
Shaking her head, her sniffles were heard which was soon followed by a single sentence that sums everything up perfectly.
“Cannot be reached.” She muttered and clung to his chest to hide the tears which flowed down her cheeks.
Reuben rubbed her back and continued to comfort her in his embrace as his eyes shone with determination.
“I will help you find your brother, Kitten. You can leave this matter to me!” He declared and was bent on standing firm on his word.
Lina had her doubts but she was willing to push them aside and place all of her trust in him if it meant that she could meet Wind again.
“Hmm” She nodded to accept his promise.
