Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 371
Lina stepped out of the shower, fresh and relaxed after spending some quality minutes under the warm running water.
She was quick in her movements as she changed into a new pair of silk black pajamas and wiped her hair dry.
‘I should go out now…’ She thought while looking at the door which was locked.
Lina’s eyes were fixed on the door as she tried to gather her courage to take her step outside.
She knew exactly what might happen if she left this room.
‘We might spend the night together.’ She reminded herself as a surge of both fear and excitement filled her body.
Mustering her courage, she held the knob of the door and twisted it to open it, and took her first step outside.
Not only was this her step to move outside the room, but this was also her first step to move towards a higher level in their relationship.
During her shower, she had been mulling over what her answer to those important questions was and now it appeared as though she had received her answers.
With a smile on her face, she pulled the door open and took her step outside the bedroom.
However, the smile fell when she noticed that the room where she had been expecting to meet the man she had claimed to be hers was empty.
There was no sign of the man who was supposed to be waiting here for her.
‘Did I misread his signals?’ She gaped at the empty couch as a gloomy air surrounded her.
Here, she was ready to take that step further in their relationship but it looks like Reuben had not felt the same way.
She dragged her feet and slumped onto the couch where they had been seated until now.
“Maybe it wasn’t meant to happen today.” She consoled her heart which had been ready to spend the night with her boyfriend.
Lina pouted as she hugged the throw pillow tight in her arms, almost deforming it while squeezing it in her embrace.
‘He could have at least called or left me a text to let me know that he was leaving.’ She pouted further for leaving her hanging in such a way.
Kicking her feet up, she laid on the couch with the poor pillow still abused in her tight hug.
‘Stop moping round, Lina Yang!’ She chastised her absurd behavior and sat up straight.
Letting out a loud and overly exaggerated sigh, she decided to put her energy to some use and get back to her work.
Thus, she pushed her body off the couch and tossed the pillow aside as she headed towards the study room in this suite.
Just as she was about to enter the study, the doorbell rang which further incensed the woman who was left stranded by her boyfriend.
‘Who the hell could it be now!?’ She snarled and stomped her feet on the carpeted floor as she walked towards the door.
When she noticed that she was irritated after realizing that Rueben had left the suite, she took in a deep breath to calm herself as she opened the door for the person outside.
“I’m back!” The one outside smiled and stepped forward, making Lina take a step to the side to let the intruder in.
The woman had a blank face as she stared at the one who was the cause of her mood swing just earlier.
“Why have you come back?” She inquired when she came back to her senses.
The one standing before her was none other than her boyfriend whom she had thought had ghosted her and left a while back.
However, things seemed to be different from her assumptions as the same man had come back to her room.
Not only was he back in her room, but he was also in a pair of fresh and clean nightwear.
Reuben smirked at the astonished face of his Kitten who had been surprised by seeing his return.
“I cannot sleep in a suit, Kitten.” He mocked her for making strange assumptions.
Lina’s cheeks turned red when she noticed his black trousers and grey T-shirt.
‘So he went to change into new clothes?’ She deduced after taking a proper look at him.
It also came to her attention after her little inspection that he seemed to have taken a shower as well.
“Where did you go?” She interrogated, sounding very much like a suspicious wife asking for her husband’s whereabouts after his late return to the house.
‘Shut up!’ She scoffed at her inner thoughts which were thinking too much about this situation.
Reuben did not answer her but held her hand and led her outside the suite.
Pointing his finger at the suite next door, he turned around and smiled at her.
“There.” He disclosed his previous whereabouts without concealing anything from her.
{801}
Lina looked at the number on the door and then at the man who was smiling at her with neither guilt for hiding anything from her nor annoyance that she was prying too much into his personal space.
“That’s my room but I would rather sleep over at yours.” He revealed as a devilish smile appeared on her face.
Lina’s plans to work throughout the night were gone with the wind when she saw his smirking smile and decided that she would also rather spend time with him than with her work for the night.
Pulling her back into the room, he shut the door and did not waste time to drag her to the bedroom.
At no given second was Lina without the blush on her cheeks as was being pulled along.
Reuben turned round to make sure that the main entrance was securely locked and then led her into the bedroom.
Once inside, he scanned the room and found that it was just the same as his room next door.
His hand still holding hers, he directed her towards the bed and did not waste time to make her sit on the soft mattress.
‘Wait… Isn’t he a little too impatient!?’ She was bewildered at his actions.
The man before her smelled like an ocean breeze and his warm touch was on her arms which were moving up with each passing second.
“Stop!” She yelled out when she saw that he was pushing her shoulders backward to lay her down on the bed.
The meaning of his movement was clear to her which only increased the panic in her heart.
Reuben stopped in his actions as he waited for her to speak.
‘Why is she in such a panic?’ He tried to decipher what was going on in that little mind of hers.
Lina moved away from his grasp and scooted to the other side of the bed.
‘Stop shooting such seductive eyes at me!’ She scoffed at the man who was gazing at her with soft and confused eyes.
“What’s wrong, Kitten?” Reuben inquired when he heard her harrumph at him.
‘Was that too much for her?’ He wondered whether he had scared her away with his actions.
Lina pointed her finger at his nose with accusation in her eyes as she leered at him.
“What do you think that you were planning to do!?” She blurted out in her bewilderment.
Reeuben was just about to explain what he was about to do when he heard her next words.
“It is my first time and you just want to jump into bed with me!” She glared and shook her head in disappointment.
