Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 373
When Lina woke up the next morning, she stretched her arms and rubbed her eyes as she looked around.
As she began regaining her bearings, she noticed that the spot beside her was empty.
‘Did he leave already?’ She wondered and sat up on the bed with her legs crossed.
The sun was bright outside which meant that it wasn’t too early yet not too late as well.
“Must have gone to his office.” She muttered to herself and got off the bed.
After all, he had said that he would be working during the day and then come over in the night where they could have dinner together.
‘And then sleep together… On the same bed…’ She recalled and blushed as her eyes fell on the bed which they had laid in.
After her grand misunderstanding had been cleared, she was so embarrassed that she could not lift her head to look him in the eyes.
Hence, she kept her head lowered the entire time and before she knew it she was already in a deep slumber.
‘He did not do anything just as he had promised.’ She remarked when she did not feel anything amiss nor did she awaken due to his touches in the night.
Her boyfriend had been a perfect gentleman while she was the one with lewd thoughts which she was now ashamed of.
Coming out of her thoughts of what had taken place last night, Lina decided that she better finish her morning routine and get to work.
‘I could not work throughout the night yesterday which only means that I will have to work harder during the day.’ She planned her schedule for the day.
If she wanted to spend her nights chilling with her boyfriend like she did last night then she would have to buckle her pants and work harder during the day.
‘No more siestas which turn into 5-hour sleep comas.’ She scowled at herself for falling asleep for so long yesterday.
Only when Reuben had rung the doorbell numerous times did she awaken from her sleep so there was no clue about the amount of time she might have stayed asleep if he hadn’t arrived at that time.
Having come to a strict conclusion of what her day would entail, she decided to begin her day as quickly as possible.
Soon after making up her mind, Lina spent the first few minutes in the bathroom to freshen herself and then headed towards the hall to order her food.
However, before she could open the door she recalled that Reuben had told her about how her assistant had instructed the staff to prepare her meals and serve her on time.
“They haven’t come yet so I still have some time to rest.” She nodded and then pushed the door open to the hall.
Once the doors were open, Lina’s eyes met with the man who had been seated on the couch.
The black and white suit made the man look like a hitman from the movies who could assassinate their victims and the person wouldn’t know what hit them before they lost their lives.
Reuben had been reading the newspaper after he had gotten dressed for his day at work.
He was waiting for their breakfast to arrive when he heard the sound of the shower coming from the bedroom which indicated that his Kitten was awake before he could wake her up.
He had been planning to wake her up when the food arrived but it appears that she would not need his assistance in this regard.
Lina stood at the door as she stared at his appearance from right where she was.
“Come on over.” He gestured while folding the newspaper and placing it aside.
He could see that his Kitten was still a little shy after what had happened last night.
‘At least you were able to sleep soundly last night but I…’ He let out a soft sigh as he waited for her to come closer.
While Lina had managed to fall asleep after her momentary embarrassment, it was Reuben who had to exert extreme levels of self-control as he laid next to her.
The woman who had been sleeping soundly was the cause of his sorrows last night.
The little Kitten had turned into a little octopus as she wrapped her arms around him, her thigh on his waist and her cheek against his chest.
This posture had given Lina the best sleep she had in the past few weeks but for Reuben, it was a test to prove his pure intentions and his self-control.
Her soft body kept rubbing against his sturdy body as she tried to find a more comfortable position in her sleep which made him let out slight groans at regular intervals.
Only when it was close to daybreak had he gotten a couple of hours of rest before his biological clock woke him up again.
He then was careful as he placed her arms and thigh aside and headed back to his suite to freshen up, following which he had come back to her room and waited for her to awaken.
“I called the Manager to bring our breakfast over.” He spoke up after he snapped out of his reminiscing thoughts.
Lina was now seated beside him and nodded after she heard him inform her about their first meal of the day.
By now, the Manager had understood why the Emperor of the Ming Enterprises had booked a suite in his hotel on such short notice.
It was to stay close to the mysterious woman who seemed to have a great relationship with him.
Not only had he called to order the food for her last night he had also done so the following morning.
This has caused the Manager to misunderstand that they had a much closer relationship due to the fact that the Emperor had reached out to him from that Miss’ room this time as well.
Reuben and Lina sat in awkward silence for a few seconds before there was someone at the door.
“Breakfast.” He predicted and rose from the seat to open the door.
Just as he had thought, Manager Lang had personally come over with another waiter who pushed the trolley into the room.
The server placed the few dishes on the table at the end of the room and then left the room with the Manager to give the couple some privacy.
Unlike last night, today Reuben had opted for a different meal when compared to his Kitten.
He pulled the chair for her at the dining table and helped her sit before taking his place next to her.
“I will be heading out soon after breakfast. Make sure you work hard but take a break in between.” He informed and lectured her because he worried about her health.
Lina began eating the contents of her fruit bowl as she took peeks of Reuben eating spoonfuls of the blueberry oatmeal he had ordered for himself.
‘As if those blueberries could make that hideous food taste any better.’ She sneered at the bowl which was soon being emptied by her one and only boyfriend.
Looking away, she mourned for the loss of the juicy blueberries which had sacrificed their life for the sake of this bland breakfast food.
‘Rest in peace.’ She prayed and maintained a moment of silence for their souls.
