Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 385
Under his Kitten’s coercion, Reuben had no other option but to comply with her wishes.
“Okay, so these are your dialogues!” Lina pointed at the screen with a wide smile on her face.
‘I never got the chance to do a live-action role-play of novels! This is a new experience for me!!’ She exclaimed, her toothy grin displaying just how happy she was.
Seeing her behave this way, Reuben, the caring boyfriend did not have the heart to reject her.
Hence, he sighed and began reading the ‘script’ that they would have to follow.
The more he read, the more his brows scrunched up and soon he lowered the phone while shooting his girlfriend a confused glance.
Lina had already read this chapter but she did not hesitate to read it once again as they would have to enact it now.
However, she paused when she felt his eyes on her face which made her look up at him with her head tilted to the side.
“What’s wrong?” She investigated the reason for his halt and saw him pointing at the phone in his hand.
“It’s the 1227th chapter and she is still the secretary and the guy is still forcing himself on her?” He scoffed at this nonsensical plot.
As he started reading the chapter, he noticed that there were certain similarities between this chapter and the first chapter that he had read a while back.
In both of these chapters, the female lead, the secretary enters the male lead, the CEO’s office only to be humiliated and harassed by him.
She slaps him across the face for what he had done in the first chapter but in this chapter, she hesitates to take action against him as her heart does not agree with the idea of harming him.
The outcomes of the scenarios were different but the same incident had taken place twice which was the cause of his bewilderment.
“Oh, Ruby Ruby Ruby! When will you ever learn?” The woman sighed while patting his shoulder in an attempt to console his pitiable knowledge in romance fiction.
The CEO of Ming Enterprises was being pitied for such a strange reason which resulted in him having an amused expression on his face.
Reuben did not know how to react to what she had said so he remained silent and let her do the talking for now.
Thus began Lina’s narration of the portion of the plot that he had skipped to get him up-to-date with the latest part of the story.
According to the storyline, the male and female lead met when she had taken up a job at his firm as a secretary.
However, on the very first day, she slapped him for trying to misbehave with her and quit her job.
This led to the male lead chasing after her to teach her a lesson but along the way, he fell for her.
Under the influence of alcohol, he forced himself on the woman he liked but she was unaware of his feelings and only thought that he wanted revenge for the humiliating slap she had given him.
The next morning, she vanished into thin air which made the CEO male lead go crazy in yearning for his lover and in guilt for what he had done.
He spent the next five years working from dusk to dawn in his feeble attempt to stop spiraling into his obsession with meeting her.
While he was working hard to find his lover and bring her back, fate bestowed a blessing on him and brought her back into his life.
However, she did not return alone but with a five-year-old son in her arms.
“The child is shown as such a bratty genius! So cute!” Lina squealed while cupping her cheeks in excitement when she recalled the descriptions of the little boy.
Reuben shook his head at her fangirling attitude and gestures for her to continue.
The entry of the child and mother in the city caused an uproar as she now had an influential identity of the chairman of another company which rivaled the male lead’s.
“So the male lead thinks that his rival is the father of her child because he sees them entering an apartment building together?” Reuben inquired incredulously at this strange occurrence she had mentioned.
“Mhm!” She nodded in reply and carried on with the narration.
The kid disliked his father for abandoning them but he did not know the truth of the matter that his dad was ignorant of his existence.
It was not until the child met with an accident and was in dire need of blood that the female lead revealed the truth to him.
“And the father and son shared a rare blood type which no one in the entire city possessed?” CEO Ming scoffed at these series of coincidences that seemed to work in the male lead’s favor.
Lina’s glare shut him up which she was pleased with.
“After this, the male lead begins chasing both mother and son to gain their forgiveness.” She smiled and placed her palms over her chest at this sweet arc which she absolutely loved.
The couple underwent many obstacles and misunderstandings to reach the point where they could both confess their true feelings for each other.
Once this occurred, everything else was smooth sailing but not for too long.
The male lead was overbearing and open in flaunting his love for the female lead which gained her the ire of every single one of his crazy female followers.
Over the years, he had gained the image of being one of the best bachelors which was now being distorted with the emergence of this woman.
“They had to do something to separate the two of them.” Lina pouted and sighed in distress at the upcoming sad portion.
Being a strong-willed and independent woman, she dispersed the thought of asking for his help and continued to suffer in silence as these wicked women began targeting her.
“Why not ask for help when people are willing to do anything for you?” Reuben expressed his dissatisfaction with this situation.
If he was in trouble, he would try to sort it out himself but once he realized that it was greater than his capability, he would not hesitate to ask for help from his trusted and dear ones.
‘I asked Wade and Wayne for favors and help them out when they are in need.’ He scoffed at the stupid decision the female lead had made.
“You won’t be so stupid, right, Kitten? You will come to me when you require support, won’t you?” He interrogated while narrowing his eyes at her.
Lina gulped and nodded in urgent agreement as she too did not like the way the female lead had dealt with the troublesome situation.
“I’m not dumb to struggle alone when I have an army of supporters standing beside me.” She boasted about the allies she had everywhere who would always lend her a helping hand.
“Am I included in that army?” He prodded with his eyebrow cocked up.
Lina rolled her eyes and pecked his lips before moving away.
“Aren’t you the General leading the army now?” She jested and winked at him which pleased him greatly.
Having completed their flirting, Lina returned to the story at hand.
When the male lead finally realized why his lover was so silent and dull for the past few days, a tragedy had already occurred.
While the female lead and her child were traveling in a car, a truck swerved into them, driving them off the road.
When the passersby had run towards the car to check on the victims, they found the child secure in her mother’s arms but both of them made no movements.
The male lead rushed to the hospital after being informed about the accident only to find his lover and child in the ICU.
Reuben had to hold onto Lina in his arms when he noticed that she was beginning to tear up and choke while speaking.
“The child woke up after a week but the female lead did not.” She mumbled in a strained voice and buried her face in his chest.
Reuben patted and rubbed her chest to calm her troubled emotions while frowning.
“But isn’t the female lead alive in the latest chapter?” He placed his doubts before her.
Lina nodded and looked up at him while soft sniffles were heard coming from her.
“She did wake up eventually… Six months later.” She whispered and looked away as a dazed expression took over her.
‘Is she thinking of the time when she…?’ He wondered as his mind thought of the time when he heard about her being in a three-day coma.
The female lead was in a coma for six months while she had only been unconscious for three days.
Yet, the pain it had caused her family was nothing less than how the author had depicted the male lead and their child’s sufferings.
“It won’t happen ever again, Kitten… I will make sure of it!” Reuben’s low voice brought her out of her self-inflicted trance.
Looking at the serious expression on his face, Lina smiled and nodded as she accepted his words.
She put on a brave smile and then coughed to alleviate the gloomy air that had taken over them.
“The female lead lost her memories in the accident in which she had shielded her child and obtained all of the severe injuries while keeping him safe.” She disclosed the major plot twist which made his jaw drop.
Understanding flashed in his eyes and he nodded his head at her.
“So the male lead is trying to re-enact the incidents of the past in hopes of bringing her memories back?” He guessed what was most likely the author’s intention here.
Lina chuckled as he had gotten the right guess in his first attempt.
“So shall we role play?” She wiggled her brows at him after having completed the summary until the latest chapter.
