Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 389
“Maybe he had his reasons for rejecting…” Manager Lang was quick to stop himself as the next word was ‘you’.
Lina raised her brows at the man who had halted abruptly, making her suspicious of what he was about to say.
“For rejecting the woman.” He fixed his sentence and gave her a sympathetic smile.
‘What other reason he has other than being scared that I made the first move!?’ She scowled at the man who gave a useless answer.
“Maybe he’s not interested.” The staff pitched in when he saw that no one was speaking.
This obtained him glares from both his manager and the pretty lady he had met before as well.
‘What bull!? Ruby and not interested in me!? No way!’ She sneered at the man who was talking nonsense.
The staff raised his hands in defeat and went back to his work, hoping to escape from the Manager’s raging eyes as quickly as possible.
“Miss, sometimes men just need time to get adjusted to new things.” Manager Lang turned to Lina and tried to console her while speaking in the Emperor’s favor.
Lina rubbed her chin and pondered on what he had said.
‘I did spring it on him last night…’ She nodded after finding some solace in his words.
“So what do you think…” She paused and let out a cough to swallow the ‘I’ that had escaped her lips.
“What should the woman do in this situation?” She whispered her inquiry.
She could not believe that she was taking relationship advice from a stranger but he was the only person available right now.
She had shut her phone down to stay away from distractions which meant that she could not get in touch with anyone outside this suite.
Reuben could call her on the phone placed in the suite if he wanted something from her which he rarely did.
Manager Lang felt his chest swell up with pride when he noticed the hazel eyes which were looking up to him in her search of wisdom.
‘Miss is asking for my help to aid her in getting closer to the Emperor so I should do my best to help her!’ He determined to pour out his entire knowledge to be of some use to this pair.
The staff rolled his eyes and did not interfere as his superior prepared his big speech to quench the thirst of those wisdom-seeking eyes.
“So, Miss…” He began after clearing his throat.
In accordance with his serious nature, Lina crossed her legs on the bed and paid attention to what he had to say.
‘I should note these down.’ She thought and nodded to everything he had begun to preach to her.

On the other side of the city, Benji sat in his apartment while working on the tasks that his boss had given to him.
He was blissfully unaware that the same boss was talking about some nonsense with the Manager instead of finishing the project that she had gone to complete in that hotel.
“Done!” He cheered after sending a mail in.
Lina had asked him to check on the various branches and he had spent the entire night analyzing the entire data he had received.
Finally, he had completed his task and now he could finally take a short break before he could begin his other tasks.
Rubbing his neck, he groaned at the soreness he felt due to the numerous hours he had spent on the couch.
The last few days had been particularly productive for him as he did not have to go to the office just to pretend to be Lina Yang, the consultant’s assistant.
This way, he could finish most of his work as the assistant of the CEO.
His aid had also lessened most of the burden of VP Luo who did not forget to send a gift basket over to his apartment.
And this was a great achievement on Benji’s part considering how much of a miser Wade was.
Not only had Benji helped out with the duties of the CEO which the VP was handling all along, he even completed what he had promised to Lina earlier.
He had successfully purchased a motor vehicle and also managed to get his license to drive in this country.
He could now travel on his own without having to wait for the chauffeur or calling for a cab which was a great load taken off his shoulders.
“Now, onto the next task!” He decided to end his short break and move onto the final task Lina had handed over to him.
‘What was the name… Jackson!’ He recalled and began typing on the laptop before him.
All he had to do was tap into the surveillance footage of the apartment building and track down the car which had been used to give Lina the lift over to this place.
This way he could figure out the identity of the man who had dropped Lina here and obtain his personal information for her.
‘Though this is invading his privacy… What else can I do when my boss is a prying gossiper who needs to know everything?’ He shrugged all responsibility away from him as he began hacking into the security of the apartment.
___
In Reuben’s office,
“Boss, she has been silent these days without causing any trouble.” Trigger notified the information he had received from his men.
Reuben did not lift his head from the file as he nodded while not paying much attention to what was being said.
Why would he pay heed when the news that was being revealed was about the woman who was pestering him for years now?
The task that he had given Assistant Kim was now handed over to Trigger which was to keep an eye on that Zheng woman and make sure that she does not act against Lina.
Therefore, he had come over to report the activities of Talia Zheng which he had received from his subordinates he had left in charge of this case.
Other than going to her father’s office each day, Talia did not act out of the ordinary these days.
She either spent time at home or went to Zheng Groups’ main office to spend time with her father.
This was all that Trigger’s men had observed over the past few days so he had come to inform the Emperor of the same.
“As long as she knows what’s the right thing to do.” Reuben muttered and dismissed the man.
Trigger could not understand why they were keeping an eye on her when the Boss wasn’t interested to hear about it but he could not disobey the orders given so he nodded and turned towards the door.
However, before he could step out of the room there was a noise that rang out in the silent room.
Both Reuben’s and Trigger’s phones had the same sound emanating from them.
“We’re being hacked!” Trigger voiced out his thoughts and the men pulled out their phones to find a big red warning flashing on the screen.
“Inform the tech guys! Find me the culprit immediately!” Reuben ordered as he rose from his seat.
Then the two men left the room and strode away towards the security department of the Ming Enterprises.
