Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 391
Back in his apartment, Benji was sprawled out on the couch after he had managed to get the information that Lina had tasked him to obtain.
Once he had become serious, it did not take him long to sneak into their system to find what he had been looking for.
He was quick to move in and out of the other person’s security system and he was sure that they would not be able to figure out his identity.
‘They could only find my location but what can they do with that?’ He shrugged as there were multiple apartments in this building and to pinpoint his exact location was a pipe dream for the other side.
Hence he did not mull over this matter any further and decided to get some shut-eye right here on the couch.
‘I have the footage of that day and I can just trace the car’s number plate letter.’ He decided while yawning.
A simple run through the government’s vehicular department would give him the name of the person who had bought and registered that car.
With this, his task would be done and dusted so he tossed that work aside for now to get some rest.
His eyes could no longer remain open and he needed to sleep if he wanted his brain to function later.
However, it seemed that luck was not on his side as the moment he had begun snoring lightly he was startled by the sound of his ringtone.
The ringing phone appeared to be his foe at this moment which made him glare at the inanimate object which was least bothered about the heated gaze it was receiving.
Rubbing the space between his eyebrows, Benji picked up the phone which laid on the table and brought it before his eyes.
‘Who could it be?’ He wondered and glanced at the screen.
Benji’s eyes widened when he caught a glimpse of the name on the screen and he shot up to sit upright on the couch.
Clearing his throat, he patted his cheeks to look lively and fresh while answering the phone.
“Hello?” A woman’s soft voice was heard over the phone.
The man was well aware of the fact that the woman on the other side of the phone call could not see him but he had moved on instinct earlier.
Back straightened, his hair combed by running his fingers through them, and his face patted to make him look lively.
This was his routine back when he was on the other side of the world as he helped his boss run her business there.
“Good morning- No, pardon! Good evening, Madame!” He yelled out his greeting in his panic.
The clear sound of a woman’s laughter was heard which eased his nerves just by a little.
“Uptight as always, I see.” She remarked which brought a sheepish smile on his face.
This lady was someone whom he held in high regard and to receive a call from her wiped away all exhaustion from his body.
“How may I help you, Madame?” He inquired and was ready to rush to complete whatever task she had for him.
“Any idea where that lazy daughter of mine is, Benjamin?” This question almost made him chuckle but he managed to control his urge skillfully.
This was not the first time he had heard the lady calling his boss in this comedic way and he was certain that it would not be the last.
After all, the one on the other side of the phone was his boss, Lina Yang’s mother, Diane Yang who was formerly known as Diane Luo.
“Madame, Nana is in her ‘cultivation period’ and I have no idea when she will be out.” He answered without withholding any information from his boss’ mother.
He bit his lip to stop his laughter when he heard her scoff from oceans away.
“How old is she? And she is still doing that childish thing!?” She huffed while muttering in anger at what she had heard from her daughter’s faithful assistant.
Benji frowned when there was no sound after that sentence which made him feel strange and a surge of uneasiness took over his body.
His instincts were right as soon the silence broke and the first sentence he heard made the hair on his body stand.
“Is that why you asked me to make a whole new meal plan for her?” Diane’s voice was dripping menace as she uttered those words.
Benji gulped in fear as he had done just that.
He was worried that Lina would spoil her health during these days so he had contacted Diane and said that he needed her help to create a new diet plan for her to help her eat better.
The worried mother was more than happy to lend her hand in this and did not waste time as she created a detailed chart which she sent to him through mail.
“So I was right, wasn’t I Benjamin Douglas?” She interrogated when she noticed his silence.
‘I was also an aide for her to spend time in that closed-door whatever!’ She sneered at being tricked into this whole ordeal.
Benji had simply not mentioned about the cultivation period but it appeared that this withheld information would soon get him in trouble.
“Madame…” He began his attempt to explain his side of the story but soon was cut off.
“I will deal with you myself when I get there!” Diane scoffed at the assistant who was becoming just as mischievous as her daughter.
The meaning hidden in her words did not escape his mind and his eyes widened at the surprise he received after hearing her subtle announcement.
“Is Madame coming here?” He inquired with a wide smile.
The Yang couple had taken care of him and his elder brother for years and he was ever grateful for the love and care they had given to this pair of brothers.
Therefore, he was excited to hear that she might be arriving in the country soon enough.
“Hmm” Diane gave a hum in answer to his query.
“We couldn’t make it for Nana’s debutante ball but we will do our best to come for the next event.” She announced their plans for the future.
Benji could not understand which event she was talking about but he knew that Lina would know about it.
As excited as he was about their return, he did not ask her any further questions about this matter as he had some other question that needed his eager attention.
Hence he did not waste their time in asking about these trivial details and went straight to the next topic.
“Madame, have you been able to contact Young Master?” He muttered his query and gritted his teeth when he thought of all the times he had failed to reach him.
The Young Master that Benji was talking about was none other than Windsor Yang, Lina’s elder brother.
The hope in his heart began to fade when he heard the sigh coming from the other side.
“Not since two and a half months.” She replied in a mutter.
Benji slumped his back onto the couch after receiving this disheartening answer from his Madame.
Diane seemed to have understood his emotional distress and let out a chuckle.
“Don’t worry, Benjamin. My Wind is a strong boy and I am sure that he is fine wherever he is.” She comforted the assistant who was attached to both his Master, Wind, and his boss, Lina.
“A mother knows when her children are in trouble or are safe so don’t fret. We will hear soon from him.” She reassured him once again.
Benji nodded and smiled at the comforting words he heard from the woman who could always manage to talk sense into him.
‘Nana got that quality from her mother.’ He inferred as they were similar in more ways than they knew.
“Thank you, Madame. I will ask Nana to contact you once she’s out.” He promised and after a few other pleasantries, they ended their conversation.
While Benji was smiling at this good news he heard from Madame Yang, he heard his phone ringing again.
“Hello?” He answered without looking at the screen as he thought it was the same person as before.
“How long does it take for you to answer?” A roar was heard instead of the sweet voice he had been expecting.
Benji rolled his eyes when he glanced at the screen to find out who the rude person was.
“Who the hell were you talking to?” A second roar made him sneer.
“Your mother-in-law!” Benji retorted and scoffed when he heard the loud coughs coming from the other side.
