Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 394
“How!?” Benji continued muttering to himself and Reuben stayed silent as he watched the assistant dive deeper into his panic.
“I made sure to not let her catch a whiff of something being amiss about Master so how did she…” He trailed off and furrowed his brows while trying to think of where he had gone wrong.
‘I was always sure to contact the group when I was away from Nana so how did she hear our conversation?’ He wondered as a deep frown appeared on his face.
If word about Master Wind being missing were to be found out then it would cause an uproar in their industry.
They needed to avoid such a situation at all costs and thus had decided to keep it a secret from everyone including Lina, who loved her brother immensely.
“You think she is a fool and cannot understand what is going on around her!?” Reuben sneered at the man for underestimating his Kitten.
She was an intelligent and independent woman in his eyes and she was perfectly capable of figuring everything that is happening around her.
“How else do you think that I gained information about Windsor?” He retorted with a question of his own.
That night when Lina had expressed her thoughts about her brother it was clear in her words that she feared that something had happened to him.
“Windsor hasn’t been in touch with her and she knows that this is uncharacteristic of him.” He explained how his Kitten had come to that conclusion.
Benji pondered over what he heard and nodded when he found that it made sense.
“Last time she yelled at me when I brought up Master’s matter and said that she doesn’t care whether he comes back or not.” The assistant recalled her angry face when he had mentioned Wind’s name.
So, he was under the impression that she had tossed this matter out of her mind but now it appears that this may not be the case.
“Would you forget about it if your sibling was missing?” Reuben rolled his eyes at this absurd way of thinking that Benji possessed.
This question made Benji realize that even if she was mad at her brother for not contacting her there was no way that she would stop caring for him.
‘I miss my cousin so I can only imagine how much she misses her blood-related brother.’ The Emperor felt bad for his Kitten for facing such a situation.
Both Benji and Reuben had undergone this situation of being away from the one they cared about so they could imagine how much she must be worried at this moment.
“When did you two get a chance to talk about this?” Benji’s skeptical inquiry brought the Emperor out of his thoughts.
He knew that if Benji were to even doubt about him moving in with Lina at the hotel then there would be hell to pay when her relatives catch wind of this.
Hence, he decided that it was best for everyone if this information remained a secret that could be revealed at a later date.
‘Maybe a few years from now when I and Kitten are married and have many kids.’ He decided and grinned like a fool when he thought of a future scenario with him and his lawfully wedded wife and their plenty children.
“When we ate together before she went into her seclusion period.” He answered without looking away even for a second.
Neither was there nervous sweat on his brow nor was he averting his eyes.
This brought out a sigh from Benji as it proved that he was speaking the truth.
However, Benji was not yet familiar with the real Reuben Ming who was known for keeping a straight face even when he was facing his greatest adversity.
“Now can you tell me more about Windsor?” He tested the waters as he needed Benji’s aid if he wished to find Wind for Lina.
The bulky assistant shot him a searching glance as he tried to assess what this CEO wanted from him.
“Why?” Benji replied without giving him a proper answer.
“For Lina.” Reuben did not hesitate to reveal his reason for interfering in something that had no association with him.
‘But if it’s for Kitten then I do not mind poking my nose where it doesn’t belong.’ He professed that he would not rest until he found proper answers for her.
The sad look on her face when she spoke about her brother was still fresh in his eyes.
How could he remain still when he knows that there was something that was distressing her each day?
Thus, he had made up his mind to work together with this man to improve their probability of finding the Young Master of the Yang family.
Benji sighed when he saw the resolute look on the other man’s face and knew that there was nothing he could say to dissuade him.
“What do you want to know?” He shook his head while admitting defeat before his determination.
Reuben’s indifferent face brightened when he saw that he finally had someone who was on board with him.
“Tell me who Windsor Yang is?” He interrogated without beating around the bush.
This prompted Benji to stiffen up as he remained tight-lipped about it.
“I know that he isn’t some wastrel second-generation spoiled heir like how the media portrays him.” Reuben’s confident words made him flinch.
‘Got ya!’ The Emperor celebrated his victory.
When he had asked Trigger to pull up any information about the heir of the Yang family, the results he received were bewildering.
{Women, fast cars, lavish nightlife…}
This was what the news reports said about Windsor Yang.
The son of a business tycoon moved to a different country to spend his father’s money to live a luxurious life.
‘The amount of bad press on that guy is insane!’ Reuben widened his eyes when he read these reports.
However, soon understanding flashed in his eyes when he seemed to have found a strange detail in these news reports and media gossips.
“Your ‘Young Master’ is not what the news says he is, isn’t he?” He smirked at Benji as he questioned him about Lina’s elder brother.
Seeing how Benji refused to speak, Reuben did not mind but continued to speak.
“He is concealing his identity for reasons unknown even to me. But from what I have heard from Lina, I can say for sure that he is not how the media portrays him.” He concluded the deductions he had made about Wind.
‘He’s smart…’ Benji acknowledged that Reuben had a knack to see through pretenses.
Now that he had disclosed his findings, Benji decided that he too could speak a little about his Master without revealing more than what was necessary.
“Yes, those news are fake but I cannot tell you more than that.” His staunch refusal did not surprise Reuben in the least bit.
‘He is loyal to his Master so I can understand.’ He approved of this faithful behavior of the assistant.
“How did you know that it was fake news?” Benji tossed a question back at him.
“None of the news had a single picture of Windsor.” Reuben answered without keeping him in suspense for long.
‘Even in the video call that I had seen in Benji’s apartment, his face was hidden in the darkness.’ He recalled and found that there was some big mystery shrouding Lina’s elder brother.
There was time to unveil the mysteries but what was needed at present was to figure out where the man at the center of these mysteries was.
“When was the last time you spoke to him?” He interrogated as these details would help him find more information about the missing man.
Benji clenched his fists and looked into Reuben’s eyes with a grave expression that took over his face.
“More than one and a half months.” He disclosed truthfully if he wanted to gain assistance from this powerful man.
“Is this attitude common for him? Going missing for long periods of time?” Reuben quizzed while taking in all of this information.
“He is a busy man and travels a lot so he forgets to check in with his family for weeks together but never for this long.” Benji sighed as he too had witnessed this kind of sloppy behavior for the first time.
He had served Master Wind long enough to know that this was not conventional for him.
“Hmmm…” In response, Reuben rubbed his chin and then ate a spoonful of rice as this was his lunchtime.
This reminded Benji to eat as well and there was silence as the men consumed food to sustain their bodies.
“Have you contacted those who are close to him over there? Maybe they know where he might have gone.” The Emperor suggested but understood that the answer would be negative when he saw Benji’s dark face.
‘That was the first thing I did!’ The assistant sneered at this stupid question but calmed himself when he saw Reuben’s brows raised in amusement.
This expression was effective in curbing the mocking look that had taken over Benji’s face.
“No. His subordinates have no information about him and the man closest to him is also missing.” He divulged and gritted his teeth.
Everyone on Master Wind’s team was trying to locate him but none had succeeded until now.
‘Closest to him?’ Reuben furrowed his brows when he heard this new information.
“Who is the second missing person?” He inquired as a strange ominous feeling was pricking his mind.
“My Master’s close friend, Tristan Davis.” Benji named the man who was always by Wind’s side and even now, they were suspected to be together.
‘Tristan Davis…’ Reuben muttered the name and realized that the strange feeling he had felt was emerging from this name.
