Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 409
When their eyes met, Reuben was as composed as ever but the same could not be said for the other person who had just appeared.
Dressed in a grey checkered suit, the Head of security of the Ming family and Reuben’s new assistant, Trigger stood in the same position without making a single move.
‘Am I hallucinating!?’ Trigger froze as he recalled the scene from earlier.
He had just exited the elevator on this level and had stepped out when his eyes beheld the scene that stunned him.
The door of the suite where he was heading had opened up and what he witnessed was as follows.
Delicate hands were seen which were placed at his Master’s chest, pushing him out before the door shut with a Thud.
His Master had been pushed out of the room ruthlessly before the door was shut, leaving him stranded outside.
When Reuben realized that his Head of security cum newly appointed assistant had caught this scene, he cleared his throat while adjusting his tie.
Walking in his direction, he pretended that there was nothing wrong with what just happened and then pressed the button of the elevator.
As Trigger had just exited the elevator, it was right there and opened up without delay.
Watching his Master step into the metallic chamber, the assistant returned to his senses and hurried to follow him inside.
While they rode the elevator in silence, Reuben glanced at his watch and nodded as they still had plenty of time before they had to be at the office.
“The schedule for the day?” He inquired which prompted Trigger to pull out his phone and check the calendar.
It just took him a few seconds to memorize the entire schedule following which he repeated the same to his Master.
Reuben nodded his head as he paid attention to the schedule he would have to follow today but frowned when he heard something.
‘Ugh! There goes my mood!’ He groaned inwardly but did not let his thoughts appear on his face.
Trigger did not notice any changes so he continued speaking until the elevator reached the lobby.
As they walked to the main entrance of the hotel, many other guests were watching the two men passing them by.
If one watched the business news or even had the faintest clue about the hierarchy of this city then they would certainly recognize the person who had just stepped out of this hotel.
Therefore, many of them had a single doubt in their head.
‘Why was the Emperor in a hotel this morning when he had his own house in this city?’ They wondered what the cause of this change might be.
Most of them could never imagine that he was here to accompany his girlfriend as Emperor Reuben Ming did not appear to be such a man thanks to their past impression of him.
Thus, they were wondering if this hotel was holding a secret VIP whose presence had brought the Emperor over to visit him.
Their curiosity about the situation was high but there was nothing that they could do to ease their intrigue.
The hotel had a strict guest privacy policy and no one could gain access to this information.
However, there had been an exception to this rule and that person was the same Emperor who had just exited this hotel.
Manager Lang had revealed Lina’s suite number after being threatened by the Emperor which had led them to cohabit in the same room.
As Reuben walked to the car which had been parked outside, he recalled something which made him glance at the tall structure of the hotel.
“Get me the contact details of a certain Manager Lang who works here.” He ordered to which Trigger agreed with a nod as he held the door open.
The two men then entered the car after which then drove off in the direction of Ming Enterprises.
Back inside her room, Lina had just tied up her violet tresses into a high bun as she crossed her legs and sat on the mattress which had been shifted into the office room of the suite.
“Need to finish redrawing the latest changes of the designs.” She reminded herself what the task for today was.
Her purpose of this stay was to hurry and complete her designs which would be used in the collaboration with Stephen Jin for the Winter collection.
She had completed the initial designs of the jewelry that would accompany the dresses the star clothing designer of Obsidia Designs had created.
Now, all that was left for her to do was give them the final touches along with deciding the jewels which would be set in them.
She had been mentally prepared to finish her work soon so she did not waste time as she got to work.

While she had set her mind on finishing her tasks ahead of time, the Emperor was doing his best to complete his meetings sooner as well.
There were more than four long meetings that had been scheduled today and he had to sit through them all.
The first was the one with his financial department regarding the construction of a new apartment complex in an area that did not have proper housing facilities.
Since this was a profitable deal with the chance of giving back to society, the Ming Enterprises had taken up this project.
Therefore, Reuben and his team in the Finance department had a meeting to discuss how they would manage the expenses of this project.
This first meeting had taken over two hours and at the end of which everyone was satisfied with the plan they had come up with.
Reuben glanced at his watch and sighed when he recalled that there was still an hour before it would be time for lunch.
‘Why is time moving so slowly today!?’ He grumbled as he watched the men and women from his Finance Department move out of the meeting room.
The only ones left were Reuben, his assistant Trigger, and two other people.
“When will they arrive?” The Emperor questioned with a neutral expression on his face.
However, if someone were to pay attention then they would notice the impatience in his eyes.
The head of the Finance department, a man in his late thirties named Johnson Mao along with his assistant had remained in the room as they waited for the next set of people to arrive.
‘If they delay this meeting then I am not willing to postpone my other meetings for them.’ Reuben declared as he glanced at his watch one more time.
There was still a few minutes before the next party needed to arrive so he could not openly complain about it.
They did not have to wait for long as within a few seconds, the people inside could hear the sounds of heels clicking.
‘Tsk!’ He clicked his tongue at the loud sounds and remembered his Kitten who did not like to gain attention everywhere she went.
Just as he was about to drown himself in his ‘Kitten appreciation’ moment, two people entered the room.
However, when Reuben and the rest turned towards them, they noticed that these were not the people they had been waiting for.
“Hello, Brother-in-law!” Priscilla Lin chirped as she followed after the Director of the Planning department.
The middle-aged man shot her a glare for behaving in such an informal way with their CEO but she shrugged and did not pay him much heed.
‘Why do I still have to tolerate her?’ He wondered and knew that the relationship she claimed to have with their boss as his sister-in-law was the only explanation he could think of which warranted her stay in this place.
Reuben nodded at the Director but did not acknowledge the greeting from this woman.
Trigger knew who she was as he had run background checks on her at the orders of his Master.
However, he did not bear the same hatred that Mathew Kim, the preceding assistant bore towards her.
To Trigger, she was a small bug that could be crushed at the command of his Master which he awaited patiently.
Priscilla pouted that her boyfriend’s elder cousin had ignored her existence but placated herself as there would soon be an entertaining show for her to watch.
Reuben did not bother with her but turned his eyes towards Trigger who sat beside him.
“If this meeting is delayed then inform them that they don’t have to come over anymore.” He instructed on what to do if this party was late.
“Brother Reuben wants to chase me away already?” A coquettish voice came from the door the moment he had completed his sentence.
