Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 411
The silence in the room came to an end when the CEO of the Ming Enterprise nodded in answer to the question from earlier.
“Good job.” He praised the woman whose eyes were sparkling as she gazed at him.
Though Reuben did not like Talia as a person for a multitude of reasons, he chose to keep their personal issues away from this professional deal the two companies had.
‘Since she is putting in effort for the sake of her father’s company then I will not interfere and send her away.’ He decided against his earlier thought of dismissing her from this important meeting.
Talia Zheng did not know the thoughts in his head but was overjoyed to be praised by the one she adored wholeheartedly.
Reuben turned his attention to Director Peter Wang as they continued to discuss other matters but she did not mind this evasive behavior of his.
‘He looks so good when he is serious!’ She squealed inwardly as she got the chance to take a look at the Emperor while at work.
The other woman in the room, Priscilla Lin had noticed the googly eyes that Talia was directing at Reuben and rolled her eyes.
She knew that this woman was here to get closer to the Heir of the Ming family and now she was confident of her assumption.
‘I wonder how many days she practiced to orate that long speech?’ She scoffed at Talia who turned towards her right at that instant.
However, Priscilla wasn’t worried nor was she afraid of what the Queen of the socialites might think of her.
The reason for this was her protective boyfriend who would never let anyone, including Talia to ever harm her.
So she smirked arrogantly and looked away without any fear.
‘How long can you hide behind Mason’s back?’ Talia narrowed her eyes at this shameless woman who used the Ming family’s other son as a shield against her.
She had never liked this lowly woman standing next to Mason and felt disgusted that she might have to be related to her once she married into the Ming family.
‘No way in hell am I calling her my sister-in-law!’ She retched at the very thought of them having the same status as the daughter-in-law of the Ming family.
However, she felt dread while considering how serious Mason was about his relationship with Priscilla, so much so that how the city was aware of their close bond.
Proving that Priscilla’s chances of becoming her sister-in-law in the future were great.
This brought a thought to her mind and she was now bent upon fulfilling it at any cost.
‘Once I am done dealing with that Lina, this woman will be next!’ She was determined to save the Ming family’s men from the clutches of vixens like Lina and Priscilla.
While the two women were shooting sneering glances at each other, the men had accomplished the purpose of this meeting.
Peter and Reuben had come to a consensus on what needed to be done for the success of their collaborative project and thus, concluded their meeting.
Director Wang and Talia met and spoke with the Heads of the Finance and Planning department a little more as they would be seeing each other often for the sake of this project.
“Master, time for lunch.” Trigger whispered in Reuben’s ear to remind him of his lunchtime which also meant that it was his Master’s time to call the Madam.
The Head of security was now well-versed with how Reuben functioned and how he contacted Lina during meal times to make sure that she was also eating instead of only focussing on her work.
Reuben nodded in answer and rose from his seat to take his leave since they were done here.
He shared a glance with Director Peter Wang who smiled as he continued conversing with the other men as they made plans to eat out together to celebrate this fruitful meeting.
Priscilla declined them politely as it was her time to meet her boyfriend while Talia had her eyes set on the man who was about to leave.
“Make sure you return to your posts on time.” Reuben reminded the Heads of the departments which could also be considered as his refusal to eat out with them.
The men did not mind as they knew that their CEO did not like to move about too much since he had constant eyes of the media focused on him.
Therefore, they nodded to show they agreed with his words and continued to make plans with Peter.
Reuben then along with his assistant strode out of the room after which Priscilla too took her leave to head back to her department.
When Peter glanced at his new junior, Talia, he found her following the CEO but he did not stop her.
‘She is here to improve the relationship between each other so she should be fine alone.’ He decided, still under the misconception that the two families were about to become related to each other after these two youngsters got married.
So, he chose to let her be and engaged in the conversation with these men who seemed like nice people.
___
Just when Reuben was about to enter his office which was on the same floor as the meeting hall he had just exited, he heard someone calling out to him.
‘Why am I not surprised?’ He sighed when he recognized who this person was.
Turning around, Trigger and Reuben saw how the heiress of the Zheng family was striding towards them with her high heels clicking loudly on the floor.
“Will Brother Reuben just leave like that without speaking a few words with me?” She mewled when she finally reached him.
At a distance, Priscilla had just entered the elevator when she caught sight of this scene.
The doors were already closing so she could only catch a glimpse of Talia and Reuben standing together before it disappeared from before her eyes.
‘Dammit!’ She cursed but a smirk soon appeared on her face.
‘Time to tell Mason about this.’ She decided and pulled out her phone to call her loving boyfriend who might be waiting for her call.
___
Back to where Reuben stood,
Reuben blinked with an indifferent look on his face as Talia shot her bewitching smile at him.
However, that smile simmered down when she noticed that it did not affect the man and his new assistant.
“New employee?” Talia inquired while glancing at Trigger and then nodded.
‘I never liked that Mathew anyway!’ She glowered at the thought of that disrespectful man who always sought ways to humiliate her before her beloved.
Reuben gave a simple nod and was about to turn around when Talia stopped him once again.
“Can we talk, Brother Reuben?” She requested in a sincere tone when she saw that he would leave if she did not make her move right this instant.
Reuben’s lips formed a straight line at her request and it was clear that he was not on board with her plan.
“We have finished our discussion in the meeting. There is nothing left to talk about.” He reminded her that this was a strict professional deal between the two families.
She did not have to bring their families’ connection into the mix as he wished to stay far away from her.
The last time she had drugged him and he also suspected her of having a role in Jeanette Liang’s attempt to sully Lina’s name.
Hence, he was even more reluctant to have any connection with her.
Talia bit her lips at his stern refusal but knew just how to change his mind.
“Would your answer remain the same even after I told you that what I have to say is about your girlfriend?” She tilted her head and tossed this question to him, appearing to be unaffected by what she had just said.
However, her clenched fists proved that she was enduring her anger when she said the word ‘girlfriend’ meant for another woman when that role was supposed to belong to her and her alone.
Reuben narrowed his eyes at the mention of his Kitten and a cold air surrounded him.
“Speak clearly.” He spat out while wondering what mischief she was up to this time.
Talia’s hands tightened around the purse she had been holding as inside it was the piece of evidence she needed to prove Lina’s real personality to her Brother Reuben to save him from her clutches.
