Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 412
“Speak clearly.” Reuben’s voice was not too loud but not too soft.
He knew how to control his anger especially now that they were standing in the corridor where people could see and hear their conversation.
Trigger too had his eyes narrowed as he tried to gauge this woman who on numerous occasions had tried to harm his Master.
Therefore, the animosity in his heart awakened when he felt that she was up to no good right now.
Under their heavy gazes, Talia put on a pitiful expression as though she was being wronged for what she had just said.
“I just want to talk, Brother.” She repeated her words in hopes of entering the office before which they stood.
Reuben was curious, not because he was believing that there was something that his Kitten was hiding from him but to figure out what Talia was scheming this time around.
His eyes drifted to Trigger for a quick second who understood what it meant.
Talia’s smile widened and her eyes brightened when she saw the huge muscular assistant holding the door open for them.
She watched as Reuben walked inside and then hurried to follow after him.
The men from the meeting hall had just stepped outside when they witnessed their CEO entering the room with the heiress of the Zheng family.
They had various thoughts about this matter but no one made it known as they remained silent.
Peter too had seen this and was glad that things were working out in Talia’s favor as he and the others exited the floor,
Once inside the room, Talia’s eyes glanced around as she took in the view of his office room where she could only enter when she was accompanying Mrs. Ming.
But now, she had managed to enter this place through her own capabilities which caused pride to bloom in her heart.
When she came back to her senses, she found that the Emperor had taken his seat behind the desk instead of the couch which was at the corner of the room.
This displeased her as the large desk put a significant distance between them which would not have been present in the case of the couch.
However, she knew that she shouldn’t annoy him lest he sent her away so she chose to take her seat on the other side of the desk.
“Speak your mind now.” Reuben uttered once they were both seated.
All he wanted was to know what Talia’s brain was cooking up and whether it was some scheme that might harm his Kitten.
Talia was about to begin the conversation that she was dying to have with him when she noticed the presence of someone else in the room.
From the corner of her eyes, she could make out the man who stood by the door in a ramrod-straight posture.
Reluctance was written all over her face as she did not wish for anyone else to be present so that they might spend some time alone with him.
Reuben seemed to have discerned her troubled thoughts when he saw her glimpsing at Trigger constantly and waved his hand.
“Don’t mind him and say what you want to.” He repeated to get the ball rolling as she was wasting too much of his time.
‘I haven’t spoken to Kitten yet.’ He grumbled but his straight face did not let his thoughts leak out.
However, his words were being misinterpreted by the woman who now had bright sparkling eyes after looking at his uninterested face.
‘Looks like he doesn’t care about that Lina enough to keep our talk private.’ She inferred from his actions and this thought brought immense joy to her heart.
If Reuben was this lax when she had important tea to spill about the kind of woman his girlfriend was then this only meant that he wasn’t too attached to her.
‘It will be easier to get him against Lina if that is the case.’ She surmised and was glad that she wouldn’t have to waste more effort on that worthless woman.
Satisfied with what she had noticed just now, Talia cleared her throat and sat up straight as she gazed at him.
Reuben remained in his same indifferent appearance as he glanced at Trigger from the corner of his eyes before turning his attention towards Talia.
‘Let’s hear what she has to say about Kitten.’ He nodded as a gesture for her to begin.
Taking the cue, Talia put on a grave expression as she opened her mouth.
“Brother Reuben, please reconsider your decision to date that woman Lina.” She stated in a serious tone and looked at him without blinking her eyes.
The raised brows of the man whose expression was now filled with amusement to cover the anger he felt was what she had seen.
Therefore, she was encouraged when she saw that he wasn’t trying to shut her up instantly as she had imagined he would do.
‘Her place in his heart seems real low.’ She determined after his silence at her statement.
Reuben on the other hand, had his hands clenched into fists to control his anger at her audacity to try and dictate what he should and shouldn’t do with his love life.
Yet for the sake of getting information out of her, he did not let his thoughts be known.
“I admit that she is very pretty and has an excellent family background…” Talia continued through gritted teeth as these were truths about Lina that she abhorred to the core.
She too was a beautiful woman and was from a higher noble family in this city but she knew that she paled in comparison to Lina’s beauty and her prestigious status as the daughter from the main branch of the Yang family.
Even Mandy Rong did not have the same status as she was the daughter from the side branch whose head was the present CEO of Yang Group, Patrick Yang.
Not to mention that Lina had the backing of the Luo family who was her mother’s maiden family and also the support of the Huo family for some reason which even she could not decipher.
Talia had researched about Lina and her connection to the Luo and Huo family before she arrived here today.
‘It is understandable that the Luo twins always support her since they are cousins but why did Louis Huo and his mother also stand up for her at my tea party?’ She wondered but had no answer for this.
Reuben’s penetration glare brought her back to her senses after she had momentarily drowned in her envious thoughts.
“She is not a good woman and does not deserve to stand by your side, Brother!” She exclaimed once she recalled where she had left off her sentence.
The man sitting opposite her narrowed his eyes as he waited for her to explain what she meant by those words she had just said.
“You do not know this but… But, I have heard that she has many messy relationships…” Talia whispered and shook her head at the thought of such a woman clinging to the heir of the Ming family.
These words only fanned the flames that had already been ignited in Reuben’s heart.
‘I know just what kind of woman my Kitten is!’ He scoffed in silence at the false words she was spewing against his girlfriend.
“There are rumors that she roams around with multiple men and has had physical relationships with each one of them.” Talia continued, ignorant of the thoughts in his head.
“She was also said to have injured the Liang family’s daughter as well as bullying her cousin because of her mother’s poor status.” She added fuel to the fire by reminding him of what the women at her tea party had heard from Jeanette and Mandy.
However, she did not mention how those claims were refuted by Mrs. Huo, Louis Huo, and Wayne Luo.
‘I already know that it was a scheme against my Kitten.’ Reuben sneered inwardly but his face held no expression.
To him, Talia was nothing but a jumping monkey who was trying to get his attention by speaking ill about his girlfriend.
But Talia assumed that he was silent after being stunned by his girlfriend’s evil deeds which she was exposing in quick succession.
“Would Aunty accept such a woman whose reputation is so bad that she would be considered a shame for the Ming family and for you?” Talia concluded her monologue with a thought-provoking question about Lina being accepted by his mother.
