Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 425
While Reuben was heading towards Ming Enterprises with Asst. Trigger and his luggage from his stay at the hotel, Lina’s car was headed in the opposite direction.
Smiling at the reply that she had received from her boyfriend, she locked the phone then stared out of the window.
Rubbing her chin, she was in deep contemplation before she stole a glimpse at her assistant in the front seat.
Part of the reason for this suspicious move was because she did not know what conversation had taken place between Reuben and Benji after she had left the room.
‘They behaved as though nothing had happened once I returned.’ She recalled and went back to rubbing her chin in contemplation.
Her mind was trying to figure out what might have taken place in her absence.
‘Did Ruby threaten Benji?’ She wondered if that was the reason why her assistant had not thrown a fit after finding him in her room.
‘Or did Benji do something?’ She thought of this possibility as well.
She knew that both of the men cared about her but she did not know what had happened while she was away which she was now itching to know.
Looking at her assistant from the corner of her eyes, she found him looking down at his phone and typing something.
Her eyes fell on his fingers which did not have any bruises which indicated that he had not fought anyone recently.
‘He promised that he wouldn’t hurt him.’ She nodded as her assistant, though scary at times, would never go against her words.
“If you are looking for bruises then you won’t find any.” Benji’s sarcastic voice entered her ears, making her look up at him.
She did not know when but while she was focusing on his knuckles, Benji had felt her gaze and turned around only to find her in deep thought while staring at his hands.
“Huh?” She was disoriented for a second but understood what he meant when he raised his hands to prove that he had not fought with anyone.
“We just had a talk.” He revealed the truth to which Lina could only nod with a dumb look on her face.
‘Talk about what though!?’ She quickly recovered while glaring at him.
Her silence indicated that she was waiting for him to elaborate but the bold assistant shrugged and looked away.
“That is between us men.” He answered and chose to remain silent after that.
Narrowing her eyes, Lina gritted her teeth at the tight-lipped man and decided that she would take revenge for this matter at a later date.
Derek, her chauffeur, had no clue about the conversation taking place but he could discern that his Miss was eager to know something which Benji was not willing to share.
Glimpsing at the assistant, he sighed at the big man who had angered the miss before turning his attention towards the road.
The car ran smoothly on the road while traversing through the heavy morning traffic as they headed towards their destination.
Since Benji was not willing to open his mouth, Lina scoffed at him then turned her eyes towards the window once again.
‘I can ask Ruby!’ She harrumphed as he would surely not conceal things from her.
Benji looked at her briefly before averting his eyes when he found that she wasn’t too mad at him.
After all, how could he let her know that he had just threatened her boyfriend with his life?
Therefore, he chose to keep this a secret from her lest she smacks him for doing so.
As the car began moving in the path that she was well familiar with, a smile came over her face.
‘Been away for too long.’ She gazed out of the window as the car entered the serene paths which led towards the area where many families of the high society resided.
As Luo and Yang families were powerful families from generations, they had been living here for longer than the others.
Derek drove the car in the direction of the Luo Residence and Lina knew why he had done so.
‘Uncle wants to meet me.’ She remembered what Benji had informed when he first arrived at the hotel room.
She did not know which uncle he was referring to but she was sure that she would find both of them in the same place.
After all, Uncle Pat refused to stay under the same roof as that woman, Lucille Rong, who had come between him and his beloved Uncle Ace.
Not to mention that even she did not wish to meet them right now.
When Reuben had told her about Talia Zheng’s attempt to ignite the flames of discord between them, she had used the incident of Benji entering her bedroom.
‘Thank God that Ruby did not fall for that trick.’ She scoffed at both Talia and another woman.
That other woman Lina was referring to was none other than her dear older “cousin”, Mandy Rong, as she was the only one who could have leaked that kind of insider information to Talia.
Mandy walked around freely in Yang Manor so it was easy for her to watch Lina’s every movement.
It was to be noted that when Lina had brought Benji home for the very first time, both mother and daughter were present and had even sought to argue with her.
At first, she had been unwilling to retort but after witnessing Lucille Rong trying to chide her about bringing people into ‘her’ house, Lina decided to give them a piece of her mind.
She had also called for her uncle to inform him about her trip which also meant that she was leaving him in charge of this matter while she went about her work.
At that time, she had promised to deal with her troubles when she returned and Lucille Rong had even accepted her challenge with a smirk.
Therefore, Lina was excited to see what she would face once she went back to Yang Manor.
However, right now, her destination was Luo Residence whose estate they had entered already.
The car came to a slow halt on the driveway of the Luo Residence and Benji did not get down first.
He had detected that Derek was eager to open the door for his Miss so the kind-hearted assistant let him do so.
Lina smiled at her friendly chauffeur as she stepped out of the car and found Benji standing outside already.
“Shall we?” He inquired with a wide smile.
‘Once she finishes meeting her Uncle, we can head to Obsidia.’ He was already making plans of how to follow their tight schedule to perfection.
Hearing his words, Lina nodded before walking up the short stairs that led towards the door of the Mansion.
Derek watched until she was inside and only then did he start the car and drive towards the parking garage where he would wait for his Miss and her assistant until they were done with their trip here.
As the doors were already open, Lina did not have to wait and directly entered the Luo Residence.
Since it was morning time and everyone was preparing to head to their respective workplaces, the dining hall was lively with everyone sitting around the table.
“Miss Lina!” Butler Mo shouted out which attracted everyone’s attention.
Lina smiled at the handsome man whose face was radiating with joy after noticing her arrival.
Soon after Butler Mo’s voice echoed in the room, everyone turned towards the direction he was looking in and their smiles widened when they saw the one who had been missing for quite a few days now.
At the head of the table was Uncle Ace who was sipping his tea and Uncle Pat sat to his right while reading the business newspaper which he had now placed on the table after taking a look at his niece.
The twins sat on the other side of the table but Lina’s attention was on another pair that was present here today.
‘Stacy?’ She was shocked to see her here before turning towards the one beside her.
‘With Aya?’ She raised her brows at the two women who were sitting next to each other.
The last time that she had spoken to her cousin, Stacy, she was informed that the newly formed couple was heading to a getaway mini vacation with the desire to spend quality time together.
Seeing them here meant that their vacation had ended and they had returned to their normal lives.
‘So things have been going smoothly, I guess~’ Lina smirked as a mischievous glint passed through her eyes when the two ladies made eye contact with her.
