Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 432
“Leon, I swear, I will kick you if you let me get hit one more time!” Lina growled without lifting her head from the phone.
Her eyes remained fixed on the screen as she battled the enemies appearing in quick succession but her anger was clearly directed at the man seated before her.
Leon trembled due to her infuriated voice and hurried to cast a healing spell on her avatar, saving her from the brink of death.
The two were supposed to watch each other’s backs but Leon was busy reading the scrolling comments that he had lost focus for a second which resulted in Lina being hit by a cannonball.
If it weren’t for her quick reflexes which saved her butt, she would have been obliterated due to that attack.
Therefore, she was pouring out her fury on her clumsy teammate who was distracted by the comments mentioning his name repeatedly.
The seamless and synchronized gameplay that the viewers were witnessing with awe was thanks to the constant barks and snarls that Lina was sending his way.
She was directing him, aiding him, and training him on which kind of move would work better in which scenario all along.
Paying attention to what she was teaching him, Leon was surprised that he could clear the first three rounds by his lonesome.
As they advanced, he was doing fine by himself and only needed her suggestions in sticky situations.
However, Lina was very vocal about her dissatisfactions like earlier when he was distracted, almost causing them to lose their progress so far.
‘No wonder her player name is Hellfire.’ Leon cried silent tears as she was scary when she played.
She was fierce while she played and even worse when she got mad at him for making mistakes.
Yet, he could not deny that she was an excellent player and her advice had helped him greatly.
“We are heading towards the final General’s house.” Lina’s calm voice echoed in the room where only noises of gunshots and mechanical screams were heard at random intervals.
Leon felt excitement coursing through his veins as he had never thought that he would be able to advance to such a high stage in just one day.
‘What one day!? Less than an hour!’ He grinned widely as his previous clan could not even enter the Capital city but he was now about to enter the final General’s residence.
General Onn was someone only a few had faced and most of them were defeated without being able to last for the first five minutes against him.
The general who was most feared for his brutal attacks and his swift killing moves, he and Lina were about to face someone like him next.
“Let’s g-” Lina’s words came to a halt when there was a knock on the door.
____
Many minutes ago,
In a building far away from Obsidia’s headquarters where Lina and Leon were seated, playing DTD with utmost concentration.
“Boss, Hellfire seems to be back.” A man muttered while handing the laptop in his hands to the one seated behind a desk.
The other man looked up and his ocean blue eyes fell on the live stream of the game.
The stream was from the game Hellfire was playing with someone named King Jiu.
“Who is the mage?” The blue-eyed man questioned as this mage was not someone he had seen ever before.
The shock that he had after seeing Hellfire reappearing after a long time was replaced with the fact that she had teamed up with an unknown mage who wasn’t even a high-ranked or powerful player.
The subordinate began narrating everything that he had heard from his men ever since Hellfire first appeared today.
‘Started at the outskirts with a low-ranked mage and made her way up to the Generals’ territory?’ He was impressed with this player named Hellfire and even King Jiu had attracted his attention.
“Boss, I think she wants to enter the Palace.” The subordinate spoke up again, snapping the one he called ‘Boss’ out of his thoughts.
The man seated behind the desk raised his head and a wicked grin appeared on his angelic face.
“Let us see if she has the capability of defeating me before she even dreams of entering the Palace.” He snickered as he unbuttoned his custom-tailored suit’s jacket and took it off.
Rolling the sleeves of his shirting, he ruffled his neatly combed hair which tousled them and scattered them across his forehead.
With just these simple changes, the young man turned from looking like a venerable businessman in society to a handsome ruffian in less than ten seconds.
He then accepted the phone from his assistant who had informed him of Hellfire’s return earlier.
{Doom~}
Familiar music began to play as he logged into the same game being played on the screen of the laptop.
If one were to pay closer attention to the phone in this young man’s hands, they would notice that while the game which he and Lina had logged into was the same, there were many differences visible at first glance.
The first and most evident difference was that the panel seen on his screen was much more advanced than the ones other players would access upon logging into the game.
With a wicked grin on his face, the young man watched the door on the screen, waiting for it to be pushed open at any moment.
Glancing at the laptop, he saw Hellfire and King Jiu arriving at the door which looked much similar to the one which was on his phone.
Hellfire was standing outside that door while this man was standing on the other side of the same door, waiting for the moment she would enter and he might end her progress in the very next second.
“Come in~” He giggled but the assistant standing a short distance away shivered after taking a look at the scary smile and the frightening aura which had taken over his Boss.
However, with each moment that passed, the aura turned darker as neither Hellfire nor King Jiu entered the door of the final General, General Onn’s residence.
“Boss! Hellfire left the game!” The assistant’s frantic voice made him whiplash towards the laptop which displayed an image.
{Game progress saved.
Game exited.}
Two lines appeared before both Hellfire and King Jiu vanished from the game.
Those who were watching the stream were disappointed as they were waiting to see if Hellfire could stand against General Onn in battle.
In fact, even the young man holding the phone with the advanced panel of the game had been waiting to see how she would perform against him.
After all, he was General Onn, the final and most fierce General of the game.
“Next time then.” He muttered before logging out of the game.
He had faced Hellfire numerous times in the past and each time, she was defeated.
However, what made her different was that she had been persistent in her attempts to defeat him yet had disappeared altogether in recent times.
Therefore, he had been waiting to see how she would do this time but it looked like fate had different plans.
Tossing the phone back to the assistant, he began to roll down his sleeves which had gotten crumpled thanks to his earlier actions.
“Sorry, Boss.” The assistant apologized as he had hurried here to inform his Boss of Hellfire’s attempt to enter the Palace and battle him, who was General Onn in the game but none of that had happened.
Hellfire had just come all the way here only to leave without entering the final General’s residence.
“Not your fault.” The man waved his hand before adjusting his hair to look prim and proper once again.
However, before he could get back to the work before him, his eyes fell on the laptop which still displayed the game.
{King Jiu is one of my people so those who are against him are against me.
What happened last week… I do not want a repeat of it to happen with anyone ever again.}
The message was blasted in the waiting area on the outskirts of the Kingdom.
This was the same place where Hellfire had begun today’s journey and the one who sent the message was also Hellfire.
‘A warning? To whom?’ He wondered while narrowing his eyes.
However, before he could ask his assistant to find out more about what Hellfire was talking about, she made work easier for him.
The screen of that waiting room’s public chat was filled with images, screenshots of many kinds.
He could see invoices of in-game purchases, gifts, text messages, and even game stats.
Looking over everything that he had seen, his eyes narrowed further and this time there was anger in those blue eyes.
From the evidence that Hellfire had just posted all over the screen of that waiting room, it was clear that the player named King Jiu was generous to his previous clan but they were being greedy and ungrateful.
She had posted the entire evidence of his purchase history where he spent thousands of dollars to help his clan advance but they wanted more and even threatened to ban him if he did not pay for more.
When King Jiu refused in the screenshot of the text messages between himself and the clan, they publicly humiliated him and declared that no other clan should accept him.
Now that everything was exposed, the clan was facing backlash for their underhanded tactics and greedy behavior by the other players who were watching the show from the sidelines until now.
The one who had caused the uproar, Hellfire, had posted the entire evidence and disappeared once again.
‘She caused a storm and vanished.’ He sneered at the woman who he thought was troublesome on numerous occasions.
Her bold actions of bringing the truth of the matter out had brought the cheap tricks of those people to the scrutiny of numerous players, even from other levels of the games.
Hellfire was already a top ten player and had a sizable fanbase in the game so her followers were the first to voice out that King Jiu had faced too many injustices and needed to be given compensation.
“Look into this matter and report to me if everything Hellfire had posted was real.” The man instructed his assistant who hurried out of the room.
As he sat alone in his office room, he sighed as now he would have to look into this matter and sort it out before things escalate any further.
The ringing of the landline phone disturbed his thoughts and he clicked the speaker button to answer it.
“Are you still playing games while I’m waiting for you in the conference room?” A stern voice was heard which made his back stiffen in an instant.
“No, Uncle Ace! I’ll be right there!” Wayne Luo, the man with blue eyes clamored as he gathered the important files needed before rushing to the conference room where his uncle, Wallace Luo was waiting for him.
