Standing Right Next To You - Chapter 433
The moment Lina and Leon were about to enter General Onn’s residence, they were interrupted by a knock on the door.
Since they weren’t engaging in battle at that moment, it was safe for them to be distracted.
Lina looked up and found that it was Benji who had peeked into the room after he had knocked to make his presence known.
“The meeting begins in 5.” He reminded her before shutting the door once again.
This prompted the two teammates to glance at each other before they nodded at the same time.
As they had not yet entered General Onn’s residence which was the next level in the game, they could easily save the progress they had made thus far and return later, whenever they were free to play.
Therefore, that was exactly what Lina and Leon did after sharing a glance.
They saved their progress and exited the game.
Leon rose from his seat and stretched his sore neck muscles as he had been lowering his head into the phone until now.
His eyes fell on Lina and found that she was typing something with all seriousness.
Ever the curious cat, he peeked into her phone, and what he found caused his eyes to almost pop out.
“Are you done already?” Benji questioned while entering the room, worried that they had already forgotten about his reminder, and dived into their game once again.
Lina rolled her eyes as her fingers halted while drafting the message.
A wicked grin formed over her lips as she gestured for her assistant to come closer and take a seat.
“Pull up the proof of what Leon said earlier.” She instructed and narrowed her eyes at him when she noticed his annoyed look.
Benji had wished to reject her order but seeing that she was adamant, he could only agree and find the evidence that she was looking for as quickly as possible.
The meeting would begin in 3 minutes and here he was, scouring the game logs to find the evidence that she had asked him to find.
Precisely one minute before the meeting could commence, Benji sent everything he found to Lina who had already drafted the message she had decided to post.
The moment the proof reached her phone, she posted the text announcing that Leon was one of her people in the game and that she would not tolerate such things in the future.
To top it off, she also posted the entire images containing the evidence Benji had found for her earlier.
As the barrage of replies began pouring in, Lina’s avatar, Hellfire, logged out of the game without bothering to read through them.
“You…” Leon’s sniffling voice was heard in the room which made them turn towards him.
The bearded young man was staring at Lina as though she was his long-lost relative whom he was ecstatic to reunite with.
She had not only helped him clear levels which proved that he wasn’t as worthless as his old clan claimed but she had also made a public announcement to clear his name while posting the evidence to corroborate with her statement.
DTD had been a large part of his life since it had been launched and for the past many days, he had not been able to play it after what had taken place.
Therefore, his gratitude for what she had done was overwhelming his heart and the same feeling washed over his body.
However, his desire to hug her tight was squashed when he thought of the other bulky assistant who was still in the room with them.
‘I might get my nose broken this time for sure.’ He shuddered at the recollection of the pain he had felt before he was brought to this room by Lina.
Thus, the young man only smiled at her gratefully while rubbing his nose which once again began to hurt after remembering what had taken place earlier.
Lina had noticed his series of actions and had a good idea about the thoughts swirling in his mind.
Therefore, she only chuckled and nodded before getting up from her seat.
Benji followed her and the three soon exited the room.
The employees of the Marketing department were working as usual as they had no idea about the meeting that was about to begin any minute now.
“The top floor.” Benji reminded them as they were the only ones who hadn’t reported there until now.
Leon glanced at his desk and found that even Julia, the assistant of Irene Zhou, Deputy Director of the Marketing department was nowhere to be found.
‘She left without me?’ He sulked that his friend had abandoned him.
Benji rolled his eyes at his antics while carrying Lina’s tablet and leading her to the elevator.
Leon quickly recovered from Julia’s betrayal as what Lina had done for him was still making him smile.
Thus, the three entered the elevator which led them to the top floor where the meeting might have already begun.
As the doors of the elevators opened, the line of secretaries outside the VP’s office were waiting for them.
The three ladies headed by an older lady rushed them towards the conference room at the far end of the floor where the rest of the higher members of Obsidia had already gathered.
Lina stood at the front with Benji and Leon behind her as the Head Secretary knocked on the door of the conference room before opening it for them.
With the doors now opened, the woman at the front scanned the room and found many familiar faces with just a few who seemed to be new.
“Sorry, I got caught up in something.” She apologized with a meek smile as she stepped inside the room.
“Do you not know the meaning of punctuality?” A rigid voice echoed in the room which made everyone turn in its direction.
Lina’s brows furrowed when she noticed that this was someone whom she had not met until now.
However, considering that this person could attend the meeting held only for the higher ups of the company, she could deduce that this was someone important.
A lady who appeared to be in her late forties with thick black-framed spectacles sat on the right hand of the VP as she narrowed her eyes at Lina.
She was dressed in a brown business suit which covered her from her neck to her ankles.
With her back straight, she sat upright and had a stern air around her.
Just from taking one look at this lady, Lina could guess that she was strict and stern.
“Who’s that?” Lina bent towards Benji as she inquired about the identity of this lady who had just reprimanded her.
However, before he could answer her, Leon had already whispered in her ear.
“That’s the Iron Lady of the Clothing department, Mrs. Jasmine Tong.” He disclosed the identity of the woman who was glaring at the three of them right at this very moment.
Lina was clueless about this lady’s identity as they had never met before.
Therefore, she shrugged and nodded her head at the lady before walking towards her seat reserved on the other side of the VP.
Wade Luo, the VP of Obsidia Designs, was sweating buckets when he noticed Benji’s stern eyes after Mrs. Tong had just chided Lina for being late.
However, since his boss had not reacted, the muscular assistant also had not reacted.
‘I’m safe for now!’ Wade rejoiced because Benji would turn scary in matters concerning Lina and anything related to her.
He had known the muscular assistant for a long time and knew just how protective he was of Lina.
Sadly, his joy that neither Lina nor Benji had reacted strongly was in vain as the Iron Lady of the Clothing department had more to say.
“Look at that haughty behavior! Do you not wish to remain in this company?” Mrs. Tong spoke up once again just as Lina had taken her seat.
Rubbing her forehead, Lina looked up and found that everyone seemed to have a worried look on their faces.
‘Why are they so scared of her?’ She frowned and gazed back at the older woman who was also starting right at her.
Lina had never met her and neither had she heard much about this lady so she could not understand the meaning behind those concerned looks she had noticed from the others.
However, she could not deny that she was not pleased with the way she was being spoken to.
Benji had stood behind her while Leon took his place behind his boss, Anthony Shen.
Not to mention that they too appeared to be miffed with the way she was being spoken to right now.
“May I know with what authority you are speaking to me in that tone?” Lina tilted her head to the side while retorting to Mrs. Tong with a question of her own.
A flash of surprise appeared on the older lady’s face as she had not expected a newcomer to stand up against her during their first interaction.
After all, this was not what she was used to facing in this company.
Everyone here treated her with respect but this young lady had been disrespectful from the moment she had stepped inside the room.
Annoyed with this outcome, she scoffed at Lina, unwilling to even dignify her question with a response as she felt that it was beneath her to do so.
Therefore, she looked at the VP and raised her chin, waiting for him to reveal the reason for her confidence and her authority in this place.
