Star Wars New Order - Volume 1 Chapter 12 Meeting At The Council

Unknown to the two padawans their master was behind the door during their fight observing their padawan.

“You have a good padawan Master Ki-Adi-Mundi, I really don’t understand why the council have so much distrust in him” said Qui-Gon

“Hmm he is a good boy, he will become a good Jedi but not the kind the Order like” said Mundi while shaking his head knowing well his padawan.

“As for the distrust of the council, it is like me when you first mention the Sith Lord. All of us beside Master Yoda fear the dark side. And while with my teaching his talent in using the use of the dark side was put to sleep it is still here so they are mistrustful and his attitude doesn’t help” followed Mundi

“We Jedi have strength thanks to our knowledge; however, we lack knowledge about the Sith and the dark side. So, the council fears anything to close to the dark side” said Qui-Gon before following “The Sith have already won the first round with the council reaction, they are trying to evade the problem instead of searching for an answer. They have forgotten that lack of knowledge leads to ignorance, ignorance leads to fear and fear to the dark side. And all of this only thicken the shroud of the dark side.”

Hearing Qui-Gon Ki-Adi-Mundi shook his head before saying “You should have joined the council your insight would have been precious in such time”

“These insights are only possible because I am far from the council and have but a few interactions with politicians. Moreover, look at my padawan, how more arrogant would he have become if I was on the council” said Qui-Gon trying to ease the atmosphere. Ki-Adi-Mundi didn’t say anything else as he understood what Qui-Gon meant and so they wait for what was happening in the room to end.

Soon the laughter of the 2 padawans could be heard from the outside however their laughter was cut short as the door was open. The two had their back toward the door however they could clearly feel some cold sweat running down their back and exchanging a glance they understood that they had the same feeling.

The two then stand up calmly before turning with the same fake joyful smile

“Master what bring you here” said the two in total synchronization.

“You’ve become close really fast, is this a new way of the Jedi you found Obi-wan, assaulting another padawan to find a friend” said Qui-Gon which made Obi-wan know that like he had felt his master was here for a long time and it was too long for him to be unscathed from this.

However, the answer didn’t make only Obi-wan understood he was in trouble as Vaner quickly look at his master and seeing his smile he knew that he too was here with Qui-Gon. And as if to torment his padawan a little more Ki-Adi-Mundi like Qui-Gon said his own remark “Oh that was quite a good use of the second form was it not”.

Vaner and Obi-wan let out a dry laugh as they both knew they had f.u.c.k.i.e.d up.

“Let’s leave this for later, obi-wan go prepare we will leave in a few hours” said Qui-Gon, Obi-wan who saw redemption flee the room followed by a laughing Qui-Gon leaving only Vaner and Ki-Adi-Mundi.

“How many times did I say that the heart of the third form in defense and no offense, while others will not find out at first I know you too well Vaner” said Mundi causing Vaner to scratch the back of his head. He used the same form as any other Soresu user however it’s essence changed when he uses it the same move but not the same impact, one was to defend while the other was a passive offense slowly breaking down the opponent.

Seeing his padawan like this Mundi let out a sigh and say “Anyway let’s go Master Yoda and Master Windu want to see you.” The two start to make their way toward the council room.

“This is the type of thing that makes other wary of you” said Mundi.

“There is no need to worry master, I don’t care if the other is still wary of me it is instead a good sign that my strength is growing fast enough. If they stop being wary that would only mean that I don’t train hard enough” said Vaner

“As for Soresu, I agree with you its essence is protection however isn’t there two discipline in the fifth form.” Said Vaner to which his master answered “If you want your way of the third form to be recognized as its second discipline you will need the approval from the council”

“Oh, well then Soresu will only have one discipline,” said Vaner

“This attitude is exactly what the council dislike about you even with your dark side tendency you would not have such trouble in the order if you fixed it” said Mundi being as exasperate as amused by his disciple attitude, but knowing that he wouldn’t change as he has already tried to make him change for 5 years.

“We’re almost there don’t forget to be polite” said Mundi

“Don’t worry master I won’t make you lose face in front of master Yoda”

“You know Anyway, let’s enter” said Mundi not wanting to argue with his padawan

Soon the duo entered the council room, Vaner instantly look toward master Yoda and Master Windu as he knew how was arranged the room, he had already come, almost after every mission not because they required the council help but because of the trouble, he caused during them by often beating up some corrupt politician or rich merchant which was the main reason behind the council dislike for him and the reason why he and his master had done so few mission.

He understood that the council would try not to give him mission however how would they do once he was a Jedi Knight he really wondered.

“Master Yoda, Master Windu” salute Vaner with a short bow.

“Hmm. A sit young Shan take” said Master Yoda while Master Windu just nod. Vaner followed Yoda’s instruction and sat.

“Master Ki-Adi-Mundi revealed to the council your view of the Force, why did you wait until now to share your view of the Force?” ask Windu.

Hearing him Vaner didn’t seem surprised if there was one Jedi in the council who didn’t like him it was Master Windu as he was the one cleaning up after him as he was the master of the order.

“All of this was nothing but a theory on my part and I didn’t think it was possibly real as there was mention of it in the book I read, however, the apparition of a potential Sith Lord made me think it could be possible.” Said Vaner

“That the sith were still present you may have thought of a way to find them if you thought” Asked Yoda

“I’m sorry master but as my theory said the sith balance the Jedi so I didn’t see any reason to search for them. However, I don’t think we need to search for them.”

“And why would there be no need?” followed Windu

“If the opponent Master Qui-Gon fought against is really a Sith then it means they have finished hiding and so they will come for us. If they come after us I don’t think we need to find them” said Vaner.

“hmm, right you are Young Shan. Anything else to share with us would you like?” said Yoda

Hearing Master Yoda question Vaner thought about it did he have anything else to say, he knew what would happen in the future but did he want to make it changes the answer was yes however he needed it to stay as close to the original story for now however it would be troublesome if the Jedi were to be totally exterminated again but it would be just as troublesome if they didn’t take much loss.

While Vaner was thinking the other wait patiently and then a few minutes later Vaner open his eyes as he had found a few he could say to help or at least make it seem like it while knowing it wouldn’t change a thing.

“I thought of a few thing Masters. If the Sith want to go against the Jedi Order then they will need to be strong as the Jedi Order is the backbone of the republic attacking the Jedi is attacking the republic so I think they have prepared an army to fight the republic.” Said Vaner he receives almost no reaction which he found weird.

“Since there will be a war, I don’t think the Order is strong enough to fight an army able to go against the whole republic so we will need one ourselves.” This time again his word fell, and no change could be seen on the face of the three Jedi masters.

Vaner concludes that they knew a war was coming if they knew then why, why everything would happen like that. That’s when Vaner remember that Dooku was once a Jedi. They fear traitors. This realization made his face changed which was a note by the masters and he decides to skip all of this and go directly to what could interest them.

“If a war is coming then the training of the Jedi need to be changed, most of the Jedi are currently using and learning Niman and while it isn’t weak it isn’t good fighting style on a battlefield as it is too diversified” said Vaner and for the first, he got a reaction not much but still a nod from Master Windu.

“Lastly, I think we need to clean the Order from potential traitor” said Vaner causing frown to appear on the face of the master “But I don’t think you will agree so we could create an honorific rank given to trustful Jedi which would give access to information about the coming war” conclude Vaner.

“Your reasoning ability is really good padawan, however, you are too categorical and pessimistic” Said Master Windu.

The meeting ended here as Ki-Adi-Mundi and Vaner were sent back while Windu and Yoda didn’t move.

“Smart is young Shan but too absolute are his choice.” Said Yoda

“True but his evaluation of Niman is right on a battlefield the type of none specialized form will only cause death in our rank. He has a good vision but lack of control” said Master Windu mentioning Vaner past deed.

“Hmm. Wrong you are. Lack of control it is not, a rebellious child he is” answered Master Yoda

“Sadly, not much can be done changing the Order now would only alert the Sith so his idea of new rank isn’t possible. Asking an army from the Senate isn’t possible as they are already trying to suppress us. For the lightsaber form, we can probably make it that a Jedi need to be able to use two forms now since there are opponents training in Jedi way” conclude Windu.

“Right Sifo-Dyas was. Finding him we need” said Master Yoda

“He seems to have vanished since his removal from the council we can only hope we will find him soon.” Said Master Windu before they both left the room.

Feeling that the meeting had gone relatively well Vaner was quite happy with himself however his joy soon left as his master didn’t forget what had happened before and decide to teach him that the spirit of the third form was protection.
