Star Wars New Order - Volume 1 Chapter 18 Visions

His trial having ended Vaner slowly left his meditative state. A short time later Vaner slowly opened his eyes. His blue eyes were still blue however if you looked closely at them you could distinguish hidden in their depth several dark yellow streaks almost invisible.

Slowly opening his eyes Vaner return to himself however he was confused at what he saw in front of him. The scene causes him to frown, with a quick look Vaner could see it was the same room as before and after focusing a little he concludes he wasn’t under the effect of any illusion or in his own mind.

Looking in front of him Vaner could see a little girl, the little girl was six or seven years old with blond hair and blue eyes. She was looking at him with a surprised and curious expression while being in a sitting position but with no chai under her.

Vaner was going to talk to her when he heard master Yoda speak. “During the trial using the dark side a mistake it is. Hrmm, yes it is.” Hearing what the Grandmaster of the Order just said Vaner stopped focusing his attention on the girl and move slowly to hold his lightsaber in his hand.

“Hmm, no fear in you there is. Only anxiety. Yes, uneasiness but unyielding you are” continue Yoda as Vaner became tenser with every passing second. “Calming down you can. None beside me knows” said Yoda

Recording what Yoda just said Vaner start to relax as it meant that Yoda wasn’t planning to inform others or at least not now meaning that he could still go thought this. Feeling Vaner calming down, Yoda who was still sitting behind Vaner nod to himself.

Having calmed down Vaner realized that the girl had vanished as if she was never here. This made him even more confused with her apparition however he had no time for this now.

“Master what are you planning to do with me now?” ask Vaner with a calm voice

“Hmm, a strange question it is” said Yoda making Vaner frown as he didn’t understand what Yoda meant. Feeling his confusion Yoda followed “Your trial you succeed. A Jedi knight you will become Hrmm. Yes. A protector of the Order you will become”.

Yoda answers cause the frown which had appeared on Vaner face to deepen as none of this made any sense. Turning around Vaner now faced Master Yoda, looking directly in his eyes Vaner asks a simple question but a crucial one “Why?”

“Hmm, a good question it is” said Yoda with a small smile on his face. Seeing Yoda like this, Vaner knew after knowing him for this long that he was safe and that he was messing with him however he needed to know why Yoda would go out of his way to help him.

Feeling that Vaner had relaxed the mischievous Yoda left to let the serious Yoda in. “Back are the Sith. Their revenge the Jedi it targets.” Said Yoda while looking at Vaner whose expression didn’t change waiting for Yoda to continue.

“Five years ago, in profound meditation I was. Visions I had. Hrmm, Yes. Vision about you young Vaner.” Explain Yoda. Hearing Yoda Vaner frown, he didn’t know what Yoda saw but he knew he didn’t want to know what it was. He didn’t want to know at all, he didn’t want to feel in a cage where his future was already decided for him.

Sensing the change in soon to be knight Vaner Yoda let out a sigh “Freedom good it is. But careful you need to be. Losing yourself you may. Anchor you need so your way you will not forget.” Said Yoda causing Vaner to look at him with surprise. At this time Vaner felt that a lot of his effort from the past years had gone to waste as master Yoda had probably seen through him from the beginning.

The shock Vaner soon began to laugh, at first it was a small self-mocking laugh that transformed in a hearty laugh. “Grandpa Yoda, you should have told me earlier do you know how much effort I put in trying to keep this hidden” said Vaner still laughing

Yoda had a small smile on his face, if anyone else was there they would be surprised as while Yoda was close to the children in the temple and that it happened for him to smile it was still really rare and now he had already smiled twice and seemed carefree.

“Telling you earlier possible it was. But funny it was.” Said Yoda with is mischievous smile clearly mocking Vaner. “Telling you earlier unsafe it was” said Yoda this time with a more serious expression. Hearing him Vaner nods, as the High Council was not just Yoda.

“With these visions your past I saw. Surprised I was, two life I saw. But the most ancient one full of darkness It was” said Yoda calmly looking at Vaner in the eyes. Listening to Yoda, Vaner trembled an instant knowing that his past was still following him.

“A Part of your future I also saw. Hrm, Yes. And this future the Order needs it.” Said Yoda. Looking at Yoda Vaner didn’t know what to say. He knew that there was a reason for Yoda to become close with him during the last few years and it was for the same reason he was covering him now. To make Yoda accept him using the dark side Vaner wanted to know what this vision was about but he also didn’t want to hear anything about it.

Feeling the conflict inside the young man Yoda who was generally a person of few words spoke again “Unclear was this vision. Hidden by the dark side it was. Only you saving other Jedi and Youngling I saw. Hmm, Yes” said Yoda thoughtfully. Hearing Him Vaner starts to think about it, and though he probably knew from where this was coming from and it explained why Yoda would help him this much.

“I understand master Yoda” said Vaner

“Hrm, careful with the dark side you need to be. Easy to be overwhelmed it is.” Said Yoda remembering things from the past before slowly standing up helping himself with his cane.

With master Yoda heading out of the room, Vaner decides to follow but before he throws a last look at the room searching for any clue about the little girl from before but he sadly could find none.

Outside of the trial room, the Jedi masters were waiting patiently for the result even while this trial had started for a few hours already. The Jedi masters who were meditating were stopped by the sound of the opening door.

Looking at the door the masters could Master Yoda slowly going out of the room being followed by Vaner who had a smile on his face. Seeing his smile Eeth Koth and Even Piell faces became dark knowing that he had probably succeeded in the last trial.

“How did it went Master Yoda” ask Plo Koon

“Some difficulties there was. A success it is” Answers Yoda with a neutral face

“Hmm, then we will have a new Jedi knight tomorrow. Vaner Shan follow master Yoda and myself we will guide you” said Master Windu while sending a discrete questioning look at master Yoda.

“Hmm, Yes. To the temple veranda guide you we will” say Yoda before making his way forward with Windu walking next to him and Vaner following after exchange a look with his master.

With the group of three gone Ki-Adi-Mundi send a taunting gaze at Eeth Koth and Even Piell while saying “I told you this would be useless you can’t keep him in a cage” and then without waiting for their response he left walking back to his quarters.

“Young Shan succeeded his trials making him a full-fledged knight. From now on I hope you will stop your little move.” Said Plo Koon before starting to go away.

“Plo Koon you should feel it too, this kid is not a Jedi even if succeed the trials. He shouldn’t be knighted!” Said Even Piell having a hard time containing his anger.

Stopping Plo Koon turned to look at his fellow Jedi master before saying “Few in the order are real Jedi Master Even Piell” then he looked at the two and followed “even some Jedi masters are not real Jedi so stopping him would mean cleaning the order.” Having said his piece Plo Koon just left.

“What do we do now?” ask Eeth Koth

“We won’t be able to keep him here, but we will keep an eye on him. I will send some Shadows to keep an eye on him” said coldly Even Piell before leaving the underground with Eeth Koth.
