Star Wars New Order - Volume 1 Chapter 5 Trial

Vaner, Bhak, and Raskta arrived in the hall before the trial room. The hall was full, and they clearly were the last one to arrive but they had arrived in time without rushing too much.

“See what did I told you, we arrived in time” said Vaner clearly taunting Raskta who seemed to not have heard him, a little disappointed vaner decide to close in before taunting Raskta again but just as he approaches Raskta suddenly turn and push him on the shoulder. Surprise by her action Vaner lost his balance only to be caught by Bhak before he could fall. Standing back on his two feet Vaner thanked Bhak who broke in a peal of quiet laughter with Raskta seeing the still dumbfound face of Vaner. Seeing them laugh Vaner also let out a dry laugh before saying “you’re right to laugh, I will laugh when we will train together” which cut the laughter of the two making him have a heartful laugh while it was their turn to have a dry laugh. Lastly, they all broke in a burst of heartful laughter as they were joining their Clan who had long become accustomed to their antics, these three were the best their clan had and yet when together they weren’t close to a Jedi making them sigh every time.

A few minutes later the doors open again but his time Jedi masters and instructor entered the Hall, what surprised them was that while it was common for some Jedi master and knight to come to see the trial it had rarely been such important Jedi who came. Master Yoda, Master Windu, Master Mundi, and almost all the Jedi council had come. The Jedi Initiate knew about the Jedi at the council and they were some of the best the order had to offer while they had not seen them much beside Master Yoda who teach to every Initiate during their first years which took most of his time.

Their Presence made every Initiate even more stressful than they were and while the Initiate trial was not hard as they only need to know the Jedi Code, show their self-discipline by demonstrating their meditation and finally there was a lightsaber combat tournament. Any initiate that had worked during the past ten years wouldn’t fail at the trial but here with the presence of such Jedi master put a tremendous pressure on the Jedi Younglings who didn’t knew anymore if they would succeed their meditation with them watching or if they would be able to do their best during the tournament.

However unknown to the younglings Vaner had it way worse than them as he also knew that such thing wasn’t normal and while his use of the Sense part of the force was really too rough to use any special technique he could feel the wave of Force passing on him originating from the different master causing him to know that they came because of him making not know how to react. As he was trying to calm down the sound around him disappear and his vision became blurred in all places but one showing a direct line of sight to Master Yoda who was looking him and calmly nodding toward him.

All of this happened in flash and while it felt like a long time it just last the time of a blink and Vaner who was close to panic calmed himself almost instantly. On the other side, the Jedi were shocked to feel their probing being blocked until they heard Yoda say “Talented young Shan is, Force Sense open he already has, to stressful this probing is” which shocked them as while it wasn’t unheard of that Initiate reach the Force Sense before becoming a padawan it was clearly unheard of an initiate developing it to such state without guidance.

The Jedi continue their way toward the platform Vaner realized of fearful the force could be, he had trained the Force sense without guidance thinking there was no risk but just the probing from the Jedi master made him almost lost his mind while Master Yoda in the blink of an eye succeed in cutting his connection to the force and isolate him from the Jedi. He always thought that the Force was some kind of supporting power and that the lightsaber was the real weapon of the Jedi but just now he understood that once you reach some height in your mastery you could kill someone just by looking at him, he was sure that with the strength Master Yoda used he could have made him disappear from this world making cold sweat running down his back. But this experience made him look forward to the future as a wild spark appeared in his heart from the fact he would be able to do this too.

“Young Jedi Good morning. Your trial will soon begin but before it starts 2 of you were already selected by 2 Jedi masters so you will be exempt from these trials. Young Lenu, Young Shan come here you will not take part in the trials.” Said master Windu

Raskta smiled happily to not take the tests and her smile grew wider knowing that Vaner would come with her. Vaner on his side was a little shocked and wondered who was going to be his master as no master had come to see him before. Returning to himself Vaner turns to Bhak “Sorry brother it seems you will take the trials alone, don’t take to long or we will go to Ilum without you” said Vaner patting Bhak shoulder with a smile before going with Raskta toward Mace Windu. Bhak who had been a little shaken that he was the only one of their trio to take the trial smiled and said, “Don’t worry I’ll be quick, I’ll wait for you in the starship”.

While both of them said this, both knew that nothing was sure as this trial had in reality not much to do with becoming a padawan. Even if you succeeded all the tests and was the best but Jedi wanted of you as padawan then there nothing you could do besides joining the service corps or leave the temple.

Once Raskta and Vaner reach the Jedi the head toward the back and while they were making their way Master Windu made the first test begin which was the test about the Jedi Code and was like the test you have on earth. While the other initiate was doing their test two Jedi approach them one was Master Niarna Sanis the master of Raskta and Master Ki-Adi-Mundi who was a member of the council. Vaner new little about Ki-Adi-Mundi but he knew he was pretty strong as he led the clones troopers to wars during the clones wars and if he remembered well died when they betrayed which mean he survived the whole war which mean his teacher was not a nobody who died in the first battle and that was a good point.

“Raskta come with me I will explain to you what will happen on Ilum” said Niarna already going away causing Raskta to rush behind her. Seeing this Ki-Adi-Mundi just shook his head while Vaner did the same “Always so impatient” murmured the Jedi master as Vaner nod in approval as Niarna even Raskta were always like this, always in their own rhythm which was clearly faster than other, to say the least.

Turning his head, the middle-aged Jedi look at his padawan “From now on you will be my padawan young Shan” said Ki-Adi-Mundi “This disciple greets Master” said Vaner while bowing.

“Hum, no need for this formality we will be together for at least ten years so this type of formality will be c.u.mbersome don’t you think” said Ki-Adi-Mundi with a little laugh to which Vaner just nodded not knowing what to do now. Seeing his padawan having a hard time to know how to conduct himself made Ki-Adi-Mundi laugh even more attracting the attention of the other Jedi for a short time making Vaner even uncomfortable.

“Don’t worry, act like you want it will become natural with time.” Said the Jedi master before returning to a more serious face indicating Vaner to sit beside him as he was sitting.

“You must be wondering why you suddenly obtain a master when we never saw each there before right” seeing the young man nod Mundi carried on “You see your performance attract the eye of the instructor to the point it was needed to be reported to the council with your talent and from this, it was decided that I would be your master and I’m still confused as to why myself as there is more exemplary Jedi to guide you but it was Master Yoda Choice so it must be the good one.”

Hearing his now master explain the situation to him Vaner knew that he currently had a sword of Damocles above his head which could fall at any time.

“There is no need to worry young Shan since I am you Master no one will do anything with me alive as your mistakes are mine for falling to teach you. I will teach you everything I know and while it may seem lacking, I was still taught by Master Yoda so my teaching, well at least their content should be good” said Ki-Adi-Mundi with a self-deprecating smile making Vaner smile. Seeing his new apprentice smile Mundi smiled too as the tense atmosphere had become calm and warm. Seeing this from afar Yoda nod to himself knowing he did the right choice.
