Starting With A City As A Transmigrator - Chapter 1
“Oh, my dear friend from the East, can this bag of liquid really cure my little boy’s illness?”
Inside an ancient castle, the elderly Miller, titled Earl, gazed at the transparent bag in the hands of a yellow-skinned young man. His eyes were filled with doubt as he confirmed with unease.
“Yes, Lord Miller. As you know, our kingdom in the East is amazing. Whenever soldiers are injured, they are treated with this medicine. Don’t worry, your son will soon be standing before you in good health.”
Wang Lun spoke with a smile, his face brimming with confidence.
Upon hearing his words, Miller nodded in astonishment. His eyes also seemed a little more expectant.
He had seven sons, and this favorite youngest son of his had gone down with a persistent fever after sustaining injuries a few days ago.
He had hired several famous sorcerers, but not only did they fail to cure his youngest son, they even made his condition worse. His son vomited, experienced diarrhea, fell into a coma, and was seemingly on the verge of death.
Just when Miller thought there was nothing else he could do, this mysterious man from the East named Wang Lun suddenly appeared before him and claimed that he could cure the illness.
This gave Miller a renewed sense of hope, as though a straw for him to clutch at.
“Dear friend, please hurry and cure my son. If you save my son, I will keep my promise and give you 100 gold coins!”
Miller spoke in agitation with a hint of respect.
Wang Lun’s eyes lit up instantly. Without delay, he quickly ordered someone to find a stand, hung the fluid bag upside down in his hands, and took out a transparent infusion tube from his satchel. He inserted the needle into the infusion tube and poked it into a blood vessel of Miller’s youngest son.
“Oh, God, what are you doing to my son?”
“Hmph, I think this Easterner is a swindler! How dare he hurt Young Master with a needle!”
“Lord Miller, please be cautious. How can a bag filled with a liquid that looks like water save someone from an illness!”
Upon witnessing Wang Lun’s action, Miller’s wife and maids who stood beside him exclaimed.
The startled Miller also stepped forth and yelled, “What are you trying to do? Stop right now!”
Wang Lun couldn’t care less about their reactions. He skillfully stuck the needle into the patient’s blood vessel, before fixing it in place with a strip of white tape.
Shortly after, the crowd around him witnessed a miraculous scene.
The liquid in the soft, transparent bag dripped down the tiny, transparent tube and flowed into the body of Miller’s youngest son.
“Lord Miller, I guarantee that after this bag of medicine has fully entered into your son’s body, he will get better.”
Wang Lun pointed at the fluid bag and spoke with a determined expression.
The reason why he was so confident was because he was actually a transmigrator.
In fact, not long ago, he was still an intern physician. After getting drunk one night, he found that he had transmigrated over into this world.
This world resembled the era of the west during the early Cold War, during which slavery was practiced and times were extremely backwards.
Thereafter, Wang Lun was surprised to discover that he could travel freely between 21st century Earth and this present world.
After a few attempts, he soon started a business transmigrating between the two worlds.
Cheap, worthless items on Earth, such as ceramics, stainless steel bowls, or glass cups, were regarded as treasures in this world and sold for a considerable amount of gold coins.
Just the day before, Miller offered a reward of 100 gold coins to anyone who could treat his son’s illness.
After figuring out Miller’s son fell into a feverish coma caused by an infected wound, Wang Lun decisively bought anti-inflammatory medicine from Earth, ready to earn that easy reward.
To the people of this world, Miller’s son’s illness was incurable.
But for Wang Lun, the illness could be treated with just a bag of medicine.
Even after hearing Wang Lun’s assurances, the anxious Miller hesitated, but eventually couldn’t refuse his help.
Anyway, he was already at his wit’s end. All he could do was let Wang Lun give it a shot.
No one else around him dared to say a word. They stared curiously as the liquid in the transparent bag dripped into the body of their young master.
This treatment was unheard of, let alone seen by anyone of them, except Wang Lun.
After a long and boring wait, the bag of medicine was finally empty.
Wang Lun removed the needle and put everything away.
Shortly after, the little blond boy on the hospital bed slowly opened his eyes, rolled over weakly, and called for Miller.
“Father”
Miller responded to his son in exhilaration. After he lovingly checked and confirmed that his son’s forehead was no longer burning, the smile on his face grew wider.
“Did it work?”
“Oh my goodness. Someone actually brought him back from the dead.”
“God, what did I just witness? That was amazing.”
Throughout the castle, the knights in military attire and servants who witnessed this scene cheered and jumped for joy.
“Thank you, my dear friend! You are my close companion from now on!” Old Miller excitedly patted Wang Lun’s shoulder.
Wang Lun gave a plain smile, waiting for the other party to pay his deserved reward.
Old Miller realized Wang Lun’s intention. However, the former cunningly swirled his eyes and forced a rather awkward smile, saying, “My friend, you’ve saved my son’s life! In order to show my sincerity, I have changed my mind.”
“Changed your mind?” Wang Lun furrowed his brows.
“Yes, I’ve decided to give you a city as a reward instead.”
Old Miller explained. “You know, this city is worth much more than 100 gold coins. Since you saved my beloved son, I am willing to give it to you. You should know that if you become a city lord, you will not only have absolute control, but also own your own castle, maids, and slaves. People in your city will have to pay taxes to you, too, which is a long-term benefit.
“Don’t worry, your identity as the city lord will be absolutely legal, and I will also award you the title of Baron.
“Of course, according to the rules, you need to pay me a tribute of 1000 gold coins every year, which is equivalent to about one tenth of the taxes you collect every year. As for the rest of the amount you earn, they are all yours.”
Wang Lun’s eyes lit up. Owning a city sounded like a fantastic idea. He would have a home to settle down in and would no longer need to roam around the world like a traveling merchant.
Moreover, Old Miller’s talk of a castle, maids, and slaves was a very attractive deal to him
Just the thought about the sort of wonderful life that awaited him instantly made him feel great
However, he didn’t directly agree to it. On the contrary, he resolutely said, “Lord Miller, it isn’t impossible for me to accept the city as the reward. But it is absolutely impossible for me to pay tribute to you every year. If you don’t agree, it’s better to give me 100 gold coins directly instead.”
Paying tribute to Miller would be as though living under his hedge and working for him.
This was something that Wang Lun couldn’t accept because what would be the point of being a city lord in that case?
“Oh, my friend, your terms are really too harsh. That absolutely won’t do”
