Starting With A City As A Transmigrator - Chapter 17
After the previous discussion with Hallmark and the others on how to improve the city’s defense against future attacks over breakfast, Wang Lun thought that upgrading weapons was simply not enough.
It was common for backward equipment to still defeat newer equipment on Earth.
But before that, Wang Lun needed to do one thing.
“My knight, I need your help!”
Wang Lun came to the training ground and called out to Hallmark, who was training the soldiers.
Hallmark put down the sword in his hand that he had just polished. The sword wasn’t an advanced weapon brought by Wang Lun, but one that had followed Hallmark into conquest for many years.
Although it was well preserved, signs of age could still be seen from its appearance.
“My lord, it is always my pleasure.”
“Your soldiers are using the advanced weapons I brought over earlier, but I don’t see you using one. Do you not take a fancy to them?” Wang Lun asked.
Hallmark stepped in front of Wang Lun, gave a knight’s bow, and said, “That sword is my old buddy.” “But my lord, didn’t you say that you’re going to research more advanced weapons? I’m surprised to see you here.”
Wang Lun lowered his head, kicked a stone off the ground, and said, “I came for an on-site observation. I can’t just research without any basis, right?!”
Hallmark smiled and said, “That’s for sure. Please come with me, my lord.”
Hallmark walked ahead. The two of them strolled toward the soldiers who were undergoing training.
“Hey, brothers! Look here!” Hallmark clapped his hands to attract their attention.
At that moment, the soldiers quickly stopped all actions, and in unison, turned to Hallmark and greeted Wang Lun.
Wang Lun narrowed his eyes at Hallmark, before smiling at the soldiers and saying. “Keep up the good work.”
“My lord, won’t you give instructions to the soldiers?” Hallmark asked.
“No, my purpose here is to understand how they train.” Wang Lun said.
Hallmark replied, “In that case, I can simply send you the specific training plan. You didn’t have to trouble yourself by coming here personally.”
“Hahaha, it’s fine. I can get more insight this way and also see if anything needs to be changed.”
“Of course, I’m not doubting your training methods, my knight.”
Wang Lun lifted his hand and tapped Hallmark on the shoulder a few times.
He knew that not being recognized for his hard work was the most deadly attack on a knight’s pride.
Hallmark didn’t mind at all. He shrugged and said, “No worries, my lord.”
“All right, show me the training of the cavalrymen.”
Hallmark nodded and led Wang Lun in the other direction.
The training ground was where the infantry trained. However, the place they were heading to now was the arena.
The arena was where the former city lord used to watch slaves massacre one another. But since Wang Lun took over Yale City, he turned the arena into a training ground for cavalrymen instead.
The training ground and arena weren’t far apart. The two of them arrived at the latter after a short while.
At that moment, the soldiers rode on warhorses in the arena, carrying out their training.
Wang Lun instructed Hallmark to not disrupt their training. The two of them stood on the raised platform and observed them.
There are no more cavalrymen left on Earth. I should let them continue their training using the same method for now.
Wang Lun narrowed his eyes and softly muttered.
Hallmark wasn’t able to hear him clearly. He cast a puzzled look at Wang Lun.
“Hallmark,” Wang Lun suddenly called out after a moment of silence.
“Yes, my lord!”
He, as a personal escort, was ready to be ordered even in danger.
“The cavalrymen will continue training in the same way. I will arrange for more powerful weapons for them when the time comes.”
Hallmark bowed and said, “Understood.”
Wang Lun stretched, “Well, that’s it for today. I’ll head back first.”
Wang Lun sauntered back to the city hall alone, while Hallmark stayed behind and trained his soldiers.
It didn’t matter whether Wang Lun was making changes to the training method. At the very least, the training session had to be carried out.
Winter was approaching and potential dangers didn’t allow even a moment of slack.
Wang Lun entered his room, followed the sequence to summon the system, and transmigrated over to Earth through space.
After some research on the computer, he finally found some suitable training methods for the soldiers.
Although the training methods weren’t quick fixes, their effects in a short period of time were still enough for them to deal with unexpected events.
Wang Lun hadn’t brought back the weapons he pre-ordered on Earth the last time he returned. And now, with the spatial storage bag in his possession, he could collect all the weapons at once after going through the training methods in detail.
Things got really convenient with the spatial storage bag as he could carry so many weapons at once.
After he returned to Yale City, he immediately asked Hallmark to distribute the new weapons.
The ones he brought back this time were mainly crossbows and halberds for the cavalrymen.
Of course, there was also another rather special gift.
This gift was purchased for none other than Wang Lun’s personal escort, Hallmark.
“This sword is yours.”
Wang Lun handed the sword over.
Meanwhile, Hallmark was distributing the weapons and was instantly surprised by Wang Lun’s action.
“M-My lord, what do you mean by this?”
Staring at the sword in Wang Lun’s hand, which looked the same as his aged sword, Hallmark stuttered.
Wang Lun laughed. “A knight’s sword will always be his proud companion. But sometimes, it is still necessary to acknowledge the new. You can keep that sword of yours as a souvenir. From now on, this new sword will replace it as your companion on the battlefield.”
Perhaps a tough guy like Hallmark had never imagined that it would be another man who cared for him such for the first time in his life.
But even so, the gratitude in his eyes couldn’t be concealed.
Hallmark laughed, displayed a wide, ugly smile, and accepted the sword from Wang Lun.
“Thank you so much, my lord. I can’t thank you enough!”
Hallmark became instantly speechless.
Wang Lun patted his shoulder. “You just need to do your own thing, my knight!”
Wang Lun showed a look that wasn’t visible in other nobles. Hallmark wondered if this baron was really a person sent by God to save mankind.
The soldiers were dumbfounded, staring blankly at the two of them until Hallmark’s voice pulled them back to their senses.
The weapons that Wang Lun brought back this time were definitely a notch above the previous ones. In terms of the damage they could cause, it was needless to explain.
A soldier with a crossbow involuntarily cried out after shooting a bolt through half of the wall, which was enough to prove that Wang Lun’s confidence wasn’t unreasonable.
With the introduction of new weapons, the overall strength and defense of Yale City had improved a lot.
