- Chapter 148: Something happened again!
Luo Wusheng didn’t know how to describe his current feelings.
Just a moment ago, he was feeling elated because of the substantial gains he had just obtained. He had acquired the Six Gate Bureau’ Golden-Ranked member and mask, and even though he couldn’t use the Golden Seal special features until he reached the Nascent Soul stage, the mask, which is a mid-grade Artifact, was immediately useful to him. With it, he could conceal his appearance, change his aura, and even hide from detection by Nascent Soul cultivators.
Now, however, his mood took a sharp turn.
‘What the heck…!’
This sudden change in his emotions was not without reason. The moment he had stored the last jade slip from that white-haired little girl, the final rune inside it had been activated without any prompting from his spiritual perception.
Why did this happen? He had intended to examine the last “surprise” left by Yue Xuanji after safely returning the empress to her palace. The empress had arrived so suddenly that he had only been able to inspect two of the runes. In her presence, he hadn’t had the opportunity to secretly activate the third one.
Yet now, it seemed like this rune had a timed activation function.
Regardless, as the rune was triggered, a new scene began to unfold in Luo Wusheng’s mind.
This scene depicted the outskirts of the Royal City, where dozens of individuals wearing attire characteristic of the Demon Sect were facing off against a group of figures in green robes.
Seeing this, Luo Wusheng quickly understood the situation. Those Demon Sect disciples were undoubtedly the reinforcements sent by his sect to assist the Demon Artifact Pavilion. He couldn’t identify the green-robed individuals, but it was evident that tensions had escalated.
Luo Wusheng couldn’t help but recall the small blessings he had offered in his thoughts earlier.
‘Did those Demon Sect disciples really get into trouble?’
He felt a strange sense of satisfaction.
With this development, it was likely that his junior sister would be delayed for quite some time, and she might not have the opportunity to visit the Wandering Immortal Inn to see her senior brother.
Just as he was entertaining this thought, the scene in his mind suddenly changed.
The scene played out was still in the same place, but then, an extra individual appeared, Luo Wusheng watched as the bald carriage driver, dressed in coarse linen clothing, approached the group of Demon Sect disciples. In his left hand, he held a large hemp bag. With a swift motion, he began to capture the Demon Sect disciples one by one, expertly maneuvering the bag to ensnare them. The seemingly small hemp bag managed to contain all the Demon Sect disciples.
Once the disciples were packed into the bag, the bald driver tied it tightly and then casually tossed it into the back of the carriage. He glanced upwards, revealing a sinister smile, and then vanished, leaving behind a horse-drawn carriage loaded with Demon Sect disciples and a group of bewildered figures in green robes.
Luo Wusheng’s scalp tingled as he watched this in his mind.
Despite being a mental image, he could distinctly sense that the bald driver was making that expression directly at him.
Next, he saw his junior sister appearing in the scene.
The scene abruptly ended.
In his mind, Luo Wusheng once again saw the empty room from the surveillance.
It was clear what this meant, and Luo Wusheng’s mind was racing.
“Damn it, a new problem has come!”
At the same time, outside the Royal City, Bai Xiaoyao looked at the bulging hemp bag, which are tightly sealed and are placed on the carriage. Her expression had turned unusually solemn.
Upon receiving word of the altercation between their Demon Sect disciples and the martial artists from the Martial Alliance around the outskirts of the Royal City, Bai Xiaoyao had hurried to the scene. However, what she encountered outside the capital was a bizarre situation.
She had received the account of the events from some of the green-robed Martial Alliance members she had dispatched earlier.
According to their version of events, a dispute had arisen between their Demon Sect disciples and the martial artists from the Martial Alliance. Allegedly, the dispute had started with some disrespectful words from the Demon Sect side. The confrontation had escalated, and both sides had reached a standoff. That was when the bald carriage driver had suddenly appeared.
Bai Xiaoyao didn’t fully trust this one-sided account, but the part about the bald driver seemed authentic.
‘The bald driver… the Buddhist Sect…’
A faint glimmer appeared in Bai Xiaoyao’s eyes.
She quickly recalled the hints of apprehension in her senior brother’s tone when he had mentioned the bald carriage driver during their previous conversation about the secret mastermind.
Combine this with his long-standing bias against the Buddhist Sect, and Bai Xiaoyao had her own speculations.
“But why would that person do this?”
Bai Xiaoyao muttered quietly to herself. She had just attempted to break the seals on the hemp bag, and she knew it wasn’t an overly complex technique; it would just take a considerable amount of time. If she did it, it would likely require nearly half a day.
However, her senior brother, who possessed a Peak stage of Golden Core cultivation, could potentially unravel it in an instant.
Was there any significance to such seemingly pointless actions?
“It’s almost like the last time when he led me to Red Blossom Pavilion. A senseless test…”
Could it be that the bald carriage driver was the mastermind, the person behind her senior brother’s challenges? Was he affiliated with the Buddhist Sect?
Bai Xiaoyao quickly realized something. Perhaps the goal was to make her visit the Wandering Immortal Inn and seek her senior brother.
“The sooner I tell my senior brother about this, the better. But doing so would play right into their hands…”
She fell into deep thought.
After a brief contemplation, she made a decision.
“There is something special about that maid named Xiao Guai… Since she is the guest that Senior Brother specifically instructed me to accommodate, could it be that Senior Brother has already anticipated today’s situation and is using her as a contingency plan?”
Bai Xiaoyao believes that his well-prepared Senior Brother would never be unprepared for any unexpected circumstances.
Every step taken by his Senior Brother must have a deeper meaning.
‘If that courtesan maid also agrees to meet Senior Brother, then it would not be a mistake…’
