Stronghold In The Apocalypse - Chapter 219
“We’ll be off now, Mr. President,” Leo said with a slight smile at McKinley.
McKinley shook his head and said, “No, I’m not a president anymore. Please just call me by my name from now on”
Leo just smiled and said, “Sure, don’t get yourselves killed now that we’re leaving!”
Leo laughed as he boarded a Pelican along with Alex, under the reluctant gaze of the many survivors in the camp.
Whir~
The Pelican rumbled softly as it slowly floated from the ground.
McKinley and his subordinates watched as the Pelican slowly disappeared into the distant skies before making their way back inside the oval office.
“They are finally leaving huh?” one of the generals said, somehow, his voice was tinged with sadness.
“Are we going to be okay?” one of the survivors looking at the disappearing silhouette of the Pelican said in a low voice.
“We’re gonna be fine this time. Didn’t the base get a lot of weapons from them? What we should really worried about is food and the reconstruction of the destroyed wall, and we need to finish the latter task fast” the person beside the guy said while patting one of his friend’s shoulders.
“Sir!”
The soldiers manning the cockpit quickly greeted Michael when he entered.
Michael nodded and said, “Don’t rush towards home. Instead, head towards Hawaii, because we’re going to see if we can get some naval ships ”
“Yes sir” the two soldiers didn’t say anything and quickly followed Leo’s order, and the Pelican quickly changed its course and flew towards the small island state of Hawaii.
Leo had long planned to acquire some naval ships before, but it all fell through after he and his men discovered that all naval ships in the United Kingdom had long been destroyed, so this time, he wanted to gamble his time and hope for the best that there are still naval ships that are still operational and docked at the Naval Bases in Hawaii.
A few days later.
“Just keep running and don’t look back Anna!” a man with facial features of an Asian yelled at the woman running beside him as he pulled her by her wrist, as both of them are running away from a group of zombies chasing after them.
“Austin, are we gonna die?” Anna said with a tear-stricken face as she forced herself to keep running even though her legs are already screaming in pain!
“No, stop saying things like that! We just need to reach the survivor camp, and we’ll be safe, so don’t stop running!” Austin quickly said to reassure her, but deep inside, he knew that they are both in serious trouble right now.
Right now, he’s just thankful that no mutated zombies or monsters are chasing after them, but even with that, they are still in deep shit because the ordinary zombies might be slow in their movements but their surroundings are full of zombies wandering around, and the few zombies that were chasing after them earlier had already grown into a small horde.
Swoosh!
But then suddenly, a shadow darted across from a nearby house and headed towards the two escaping survivors.
“Look out!” Austin quickly called out as he pushed Anna out of the way the moment he saw the creature that was pouncing towards them.
“Aerial Shield!” Austin yelled as a cyclone of wind formed in front of him that acted as a shield, but even with that, the claws of the Hunter tore through the windshield and its claws struck the young man’s chest, sending him stumbling backward with a bloodied chest with three visible claw marks.
“Austin!” Anna quickly yelled in fear and horror seeing the scene before her eyes that she hurriedly ran towards him, wanting to help him.
“Stop! Don’t come over! Run! I’ll buy you some time so you could escape safely to the survivor camp!” Austin angrily snapped towards her and yelled, while sending a blade of wind towards the Hunter, who received it as a long gash appeared across its body where it almost got cut in half and was sent flying towards the direction of the horde where it flattened some of the zombies.
“No! If you die, then we’d rather die together!” Anna stubbornly shook her head and rushed towards him and hugged him tightly as she sobbed loudly.
“You…” Austin suddenly didn’t know what to say to her and just hugged her back, and said, “If you had chosen to run towards the opposite direction instead to me, then you could’ve escaped safely by now”
Austin sighed helplessly as he looked at the horde of zombies slowly encircling them from all directions, “That was the last bit of my power. We’ll really die here, you know”
Anna shook her head while hugging him, then she raised her head and looked straight at him and said, “I know, I’m just thankful that kept your promise that you will always be here by my side and keep me away from harm. All this time, you stuck with me and protected me even though I was clearly a burden to you”
“Thank you and I love you” her voice was quivering when she said those words, and even though she already accepted their fates, she’s still clearly afraid of death.
“You weren’t, because that’s how a man should be responsible to his woman” Austin smiled, his eyes full of love as he slowly pressed his lips against her as both of them awaited their imminent death.
Both of them kept kissing each other as they shivered with every passing moment as the horde of zombies slowly got closer to them.
Buzzt!
But then suddenly, just as the horde was a couple of feet away from tearing both of them apart, a buzzing sound suddenly sounded from above them.
Pratatata! Pratatata! Pratatata!
Then a rain of hell descended upon the zombie horde as hundreds of bullets rained down upon them, mincing them into bits of pieces!
Even the mutated zombies who had just arrived due to the commotion weren’t spared from their deaths, their bodies riddled with holes.
Austin and Anna heard the sound of a machine gun rippling across the sky, and both of them couldn’t help but look up and saw an unknown looking ship circling around them in the air as the Gatling gun mounted on the ship rained hell on the zombies around them.
“W-we’re saved Austin!”
Anna couldn’t help but finally yell in joy as her tears fell down like a waterfall from her eyes as she hugged Austin tightly in her arms.
