Stronghold In The Apocalypse - Chapter 227
“Wow, they really ransacked everything and only left things that are too heavy to carry”
Min and the other kids are moving around one of the buildings in the small military compound and trying to look for things that they can get or things that can still be salvaged and used for later.
The kids were the one that bothered looking around the place because the pilot and the others didn’t have the time to scour around the area after it was cleaned up by Alex and the others, and so after the kids arrived.
The task was given them, and the kids also wanted to look for anything useful around the military compound and bring them back to the ship.
“Sis Min! Looks at this”
A little girl around seven years old called out to Min who was looking around at the lockers on the other corner of the room.
“What is it?”
“This! I found a gun!”
The little girl smiled widely as she showed the handgun she’s carrying with both hands, a Beretta M9!
“Wow! Chelsea actually found a gun, awesome!”
The other kids in the room quickly gathered towards the little girl called Chelsea and looked enviously at the handgun in her hands.
After all, the kids had learned that they could exchange for useful things at the base camp when the group goes back, and made the kids eager to look for things useful, even a pocket knife could be exchanged for a sizable amount of food!
Min took the gun from Chelsea, she pulled the barrel back, then looked at the magazine and saw that there’s still bullets inside.
And so, she slowly and carefully took out the bullets under the watchful eyes of the kids who are filled with curiosity.
Sadly, the bullets left only amounted to three.
Min looked at Chelsea, especially her current physique, which is thin because she hasn’t been getting enough nutrients ever since two months ago, and it’s also the same for the other kids.
“Hmm…the gun is still in working condition, and since you can’t properly use a gun yet. We can probably exchange this for a lot of food, and maybe even a place to stay. Well, we can always ask Mick later on how we can exchange this gun for”
Min then looked at Chelsea and softly rubbed her head.
“Nice find, Chelsea!”
“Hehe!”
Chelsea giggled from getting a praise from her Min, as she had always wanted to be of great help to her and the others before, but can’t do so because she was too weak to even face a regular zombie, unlike Art and Merlin.
And seeing that her find would probably earn them a lot of things when Alex brings them back to their base, she couldn’t help but feel happy because of it, and felt that guilt of being a burden before had lessened.
Then Min placed the gun on the backpack and magazine on the backpack on her back and looked at the other kids.
“Come on, let’s continue looking around, and don’t wander off on your own, got it?’
“Yes!”
“Don’t worry, we won’t wander far from the group!”
The kids answered her in a cheerful tone before they dispersed into groups of two as they left the room and made their way towards the nearby rooms inside the building, leaving Chelsea and Min by themselves.
“I guess the two of us should continue looking around here” said Min to Chelsea.
“Okay~”
Chelsea nodded obediently, and the two of them continued rummaging around the place.
Meanwhile.
A van and a pick up truck are currently cruising through the complicated road as they headed towards the direction of Pearl City.
The pick up is being driven by Soldier One while Alex sat on the other side, with the van following behind them.
Thud! Thud!
The pick-up truck just rammed through the zombies that were on the road blocking them, the zombies either flew away or their bodies burst into pieces because of the impact and got run over.
And not long after.
The cars alighted in front of a somewhat large shopping center, and the scene of their arrival quickly attracted the attention of the nearby zombies.
Alex and the rest quickly got down from the cars and started cleaning up the zombies that are moving towards them.
The two soldiers didn’t use their guns and opted on using the blades attached on their Exo-skeleton suit as their bullets are limited, while Alex calmly unsheathed his long dagger from his waist, with his right hand holding a handgun with a silencer.
But Alex just stood beside the pick up truck and allowed the two soldiers to go on a rampage, while observing their surroundings as he didn’t want his group to be ambushed by mutated zombies.
After all, there’s only three of them.
“F*ck off!”
Soldier One slashed his blade horizontally and decapitated the zombie, while kicking a zombie at his side who tried to lunge at him.
Soldier Two was also doing the same thing as his other companion as they kept kicking zombies away from them so as to not get ganged up by the numerous zombies around them, as these groups of foul smelling creatures are known for their absurd strength that compensate for their slow movements.
And no sane person would want to be overwhelmed by them as no one wants to die getting bitten to death!
Bang!
A nearby hunter zombie heard the commotion and came running over from a nearby building as it ran on all fours on the road, but Alex with his superb capabilities quickly noticed this formidable opponent to ordinary humans and turned his body and raised his hand, followed by the action of pulling the trigger of gun on his hand.
His movement was so fluid that someone would have thought that he was filming an ad for a shooting game like Call of Duty or PUBG.
The hunter zombie didn’t make the last hundred meters before a bullet pierced through its head and collapsed on the ground with a thud.
After that, Alex’s eyes kept darting around as he kept looking for any mutated zombies that stumbled towards them while killing the zombies that got near him with his long dagger.
In fact, with how slow the zombies are, the countries around the world wouldn’t have fallen as their armies would have certainly been able to suppress the zombies, but the pandemic struck so fast that the governments weren’t able to react fast enough to suppress the chaos.
And left a lot of cities defenseless because the event started in the cities and spread through the towns surrounding them, which made the situation worse for them as the cities had the largest population in any country.
This is the reason why Leo and his people didn’t have much of a hard time taking over towns and villages because the only trouble they would encounter are either people hostile to them or the mutated zombies, or if they are unlucky, mutated animals that ordinary humans can’t react fast enough to defend against.
The group finally cleaned up all of the zombies that were bothering them after five minutes.
“Sir, we’re done here” said Soldier One as he walked towards Alex.
Alex gave another look around them before turning his attention to the soldier in front of him.
“Good, let’s make our way inside the shopping center then”
After saying those words, Alex took the lead as they headed inside the shopping center in front of them.
And on the way, the three of them took the abandoned carts around them and made their way inside the dimly lit shopping center while pushing the shopping carts.
“Ohhh~ damn, that’s disgusting!”
The two soldiers couldn’t help but pinch their noses while lightly waving their hand in front of their faces when the disgusting smell of rotten flesh assaulted their senses.
As people who had been serving by the side of Alex from the beginning, they quickly regained their composure and noticed something weird just now.
“SIr, I just realized this just now, but isn’t the number of zombies here too small? A place like supermarkets and shopping centers should have been packed with zombies because a lot of people would have certainly come here during the pre chaos event. If my guess is right, there should be either a powerful mutated zombie or animal around”
Soldier Two also came to the same conclusion as he nodded in agreement with what his companion said.
Thud!
The three people quickly turned their heads towards the direction of where the sound came from, but it wasn’t what quickly attracted their attention, but the monstrosity staring at them from the second floor of the shopping center.
Grrrr!
“Aw~ shit!”
