Stronghold In The Apocalypse - Chapter 240
“I’m on the highway to hell~!”
“Okay! I think I’m done here”
A few minutes later, the man was finally done with his work and stored the tools he used at the back before leaving the building and made his way towards the direction of his lodging.
He greeted those people who he is familiar with on the way to his home and even chatted with an aunty who’s bartering some vegetables she had grown herself.
Arriving at the third floor of an old three story apartment.
He slowly made his way over to his small room, and then he suddenly pulled his bed back from the wall, and using a flat head screwdriver, he pressed it against the wall, and something actually happened as a small section of the wooden wall opened up and revealed a small two way radio hidden inside.
He operated and turned one the radio transmitter and held the mic in his right hand and said, “This is Eagle. Come in Tree House, over”
After a moment, a reply came.
“This is Tree House, situation report Eagle, over”
After that, the man started summarizing his report about the current situation of the Gramere Camp, which is the village they’re at now turned into a military camp.
After Eagle finished giving his report, he let out a long breath and stood up and gazed at the scenery outside of the window.
“These bastards better not do something stupid if they know what is good for them”
Eagle chuckled coldly as his eyes rested at the largest building in the village where all of the highest ranking officials would gather for every operation.
In the afternoon, back at Manchester Base.
The PELICAN slowly lifted off the ground while carrying food, water and medicine supplies and on its overhang, it carried a small cargo container containing building equipment, along with a crew of builders as they set off towards Hawaii.
“Dammit, I wanted to go on an adventure with the Boss too”
“Shut it, you’re already too old to be doing it. Let the young ones do it and instead focus on your work old man”
Caleb just shook his head with a helpless smile on his face hearing the bickering old men following behind him.
Meanwhile,
With currently no urgent matters for the people here to do, Leo had the people on the island to cultivate the land while some were ordered to forage and go fishing.
“Wow, I wasn’t expecting that I’d actually be fishing in the middle of a zombie apocalypse” laughed Austin while holding a fishing rod in his hands.
Aside from him, there are also Merlin and Art doing the same thing as him as they stood on top of large boulders that would get struck by the sea waves from time to time.
“Hey, why are you two not talking?”
Art and Merlin ignored Austin as their eyes just stared at floaters in the distance. It was probably their first time fishing that they were quite nervous because their faces were already covered in sweat while their hands gripped tightly on their fishing rods.
Unlike Austin, who looks really relaxed as he even sat on the rock while humming a song.
“Shut up, we’re trying to concentrate here” growled Art in annoyance as he didn’t want to lose his focus.
“You-”
“Oh, ohhh! I think I got one!”
Austin was about to open his mouth and say something when Merlin suddenly started yelling in excitement when his rod started to slightly bend.
Austin quickly pulled his line back and ran beside Merlin as he was worried that the little kid might not know what to do.
“I-It’s quite strong! I think it’s a big fish!”
While the two kids and one teen adult are excitedly fishing at the beach.
“Damn, I didn’t expect that I would actually do gardening instead of being out there and killing zombies left and right” complained Carl with a laugh as he wasn’t expecting the circumstances they are in right now.
Anthony, who is listening to the side and had been on this island for the “longest time” could also only laugh, as he, a former special forces soldier, would actually be reduced to a gardener.
“It’s fine, you’ll get used to it eventually. In fact, I don’t mind even doing this until I grow old, and I’m even planning to bring my family here after the construction of the island base”
“Wait, what? You want to quit your job and instead become a gardener?” Carl couldn’t help but be astounded when he heard what Anthony said.
“What? No! You dumbass, the benefits of being a soldier are just too good to ignore!” laughed Anthony.
When the others who had been silently listening between the two people heard what he said in the end, they couldn’t help but turn their heads towards Anthony with dumbfounded looks on their faces as they thought that he was being serious earlier.
Of course, Anthony is not really that dumb enough to leave the army when even the lowest ranking soldier would have receive a lot of benefits, and not excluding the fact that their standing among the survivors would be even higher, and at least even if they die in battle, their families they had left behind would at least receive a food pension where they’d at least not starve for a limited period of time.
And let’s not even forget about the awesome weapons and equipment like Exosuit too!
Meanwhile,
Thud! Thud!
“This is what has become of Pearl Harbor already?”
Leo and Alex jumped down from the PELICAN and landed on the messy street of the former naval base.
With a large sword on his back, Leo looked around the place with nostalgia as he could still remember the days he came here as a tourist with his then girlfriend back then.
“Let’s go take care of that control type zombie first before we meet those people on the ship”
Alex just nodded his head and quickly followed after Leo.
Both of them had already surpassed the limits of being a normal human, especially to Leo.
Both of them are jumping on the trees and buildings and leaping through the air like ninjas, and some survivors who had managed to survive under the threat of the horde managed to catch a glimpse of the figures couldn’t help but get dumbfounded in shock with their mouths open as whatever they were holding on their hands fell on the ground because of it.
“Did we actually have superheroes back then? Dang, I didn’t even drink that much but I’m already seeing things. I think I’m growing too old already” mumbled one survivor holding a flask of alcohol while shaking his head.
“You’re not drunk, there were really people jumping on top of the buildings like those ninjas from anime” his companion, a young man rolled his eyes while staring at the direction to where those two shadows disappeared to.
“Really?” the middle aged man asked while filling up the gas tank of their modified truck.
“Yeah, I wonder who they are,” the young man nodded.
“Want to go where they have gone too?”
“Nah, they were heading towards the center of Pearl City. I don’t want to die yet by going back there again. That place is already hopeless, it’s already lucky enough for us that we actually managed to slip past the horde” the young man quickly rejected his suggestion while shaking his head as they had just escaped from that place and he doesn’t have any plans of wasting their chance to survive just because of his curiosity.
“Okay, suit yourself youngin”
The middle aged man shrugged his shoulders as he took a big gulp of his flask.
