Stronghold In The Apocalypse - Chapter 241
Flap! Flap! Flap!
Leo and Alex arrived on top of a building, as a flock of birds flew away from the location.
Looking at the birds flying away from them, Leo couldn’t help but wonder about a question he had always been curious about.
“I wonder why we’ve never seen any mutated birds so far and only land beasts?”
“I don’t know, sir” said Alex, thinking that Leo was asking him that question.
“Hmm…nevermind, but I didn’t expect that there would still be actually a lot of survivors living in the city even with the horde under their noses”
Leo was amazed at these people as he thought that they might have already learned how to survive around the threat of the zombie horde just before them.
“Sir, shall we go down and take care of the horde?” asked Alex with a serious look on his face, and he made it sound that taking on the zombie horde by themselves isn’t something impossible but already a fact.
“Eh? No, let’s scout first and see how strong they are” Leo quickly waved his hands as he was startled because of what Alex said.
After all, Leo is not some overconfident dumbas* anymore just because he has a special ability that makes him able to stand above the others.
‘I’d love to go down there and wreak havoc, but I’d at least need to learn how my level compares to the control type zombie as I didn’t want what happened back in Washington where I got surrounded on all sides and almost lost my life to happen again’
Leo had already learned the hard way, and he didn’t want to risk it again because of overconfidence.
“What is our next course of action then sir?” Alex asked, knowing that they wouldn’t be attacking the horde today.
Leo looked around their surroundings before saying, “First, let’s visit those hardware and constructions supplies that are around here and loot whatever is left of them”
Saying that, Leo led Alex down the fire escape as they arrived down at the back of the building they were at earlier and littered with zombie corpses they had killed before.
The place where they are right now is actually a neighborhood, and while walking through the neighborhood that’s void of any signs of humans apart from them.
The first thing that anyone would notice around them are the few abandoned cars on the road, overgrown grassess that had long been overdue, or barricaded houses with erected walls but seem to have been abandoned a long time ago.
“We’ve encountered a few surviving humans on the way here, but this place has literally no humans in sight. It’s like going to a safari and trying to find the rarest animals out there” Leo snorted with a chuckle as he couldn’t help but compare their surroundings to something.
But then because an idea came to him, Leo suddenly made a turn and headed towards a two story house and arrived at the front door.
Leo glanced at the side and slowly turned his head as he saw Alex staring at him with a confused look on his face, and his face was saying ‘ This is not a hardware store or even a construction supply’.
“Since…no one seems to be around anymore. Let’s loot their houses of anything useful like spices, condiments, medicines, probably some clothes and maybe condoms too if you see any lying around”
Then he saw Alex giving him that weird look when he mentioned the condoms that he hurriedly added, “You know, it’s the zombie apocalypse. I’m pretty sure now is the time that humans really need them the most. Alright, stop looking at me like that. I admit, having a baby is kind of a burden especially if they don’t have the means like us. So pregnant prevention is a must, I’m pretty sure a lot of people is in need of them”
Leo just rolled his eyes at Alex, and just when he had just grabbed the doorknob and was about to turn it, he stopped again and looked back at the latter and said with a little bit of hesitation in his voice, “I’ve been meaning to ask you this. You’re a cyborg, right?”
“Yes” answered Alex with a nod.
“So…does your male productive system still work or something like that? If you know….what I mean”
When Leo uttered those words, he couldn’t help but feel embarrassed as his eyes shifted from side to side.
“Yes, my male productive organs still function even though most of my body is made of robotic parts and the rest are organic” answered Alex like it wasn’t weird at all that Leo asked him that.
Leo just nodded and didn’t say anything as he just turned around and turned the doorknob and ended up destroying it because it was locked.
‘At least, those women who like you would be relieved to know that you can still get them pregnant. I’m just not sure if you’d end up destroying them in the “heat” of the moment’
Leo had that thought inside his head as he walked inside the place with the stairs leading towards the second floor and the hallway leading to the back greeted them.
“Let’s split up, I’ll take care of this place. You go to the other houses” said Leo to Alex who nodded in return and left as he made his way over towards the other house beside where Leo is at.
“Now then, shall we?”
Leo smiled as he made his way over to the back and arrived at the kitchen.
“It seems some people came here before us” said Leo, noticing the mess in the kitchen that looks like someone came home drunk and started throwing things around.
“Seems like everything is still here”
Leo opened the wall cabinets and found salt, sugar and other condiments and spices stored inside and threw them inside his [Inventory].
He even took some pots and frying pans along with knives that were left behind before making his way upstairs.
He didn’t bother taking the things from the fridge as they were already spoiled, but he was lucky enough to find three unopened bottles of spring water inside.
He took every piece of clothing from their cabinets and stored them inside his [Inventory] as they only occupied a single slot, so he didn’t mind taking them all as they might come in handy one day or maybe even sell them to the survivors at the survivor bases under him.
Both of them at least ransacked ten or so houses before Leo was satisfied with their find, and finally continued on the reason why they came here in the first place.
After they finally passed through the neighborhood, it took them at least half an hour before they finally found a hardware store called PACE Hardware, and surrounded by more or so hundred zombies, and they even saw a lone Hunter Zombie roaming around the vicinity.
“Let’s hope that’s only them cause there’s no running water anymore to take a shower when things got messy”
Water supply and fresh drinking water..
It was one of Leo’s headaches when the flow of water supply stopped, and if it wasn’t for the help of the [System] that erected a simple water supply system at Dawn Village, it would have been a huge headache for him as he would have certainly expended a lot of manpower on those water services companies to operate them.
“Shall we?” said Leo as he slowly took out the large sword strapped on his back.
While Alex nodded in return, “Yes sir”
“Let’s go!”
And both of them charged out with domineering momentum towards the zombies gathered around the building!
