Stronghold In The Apocalypse - Chapter 254
Splash!
Blood and gore flew in every direction every time Leo swung his sword, and the same goes to Alex, he was like a tiger that was suddenly given wings because of the PSA he’s using.
No zombie had survived after taking one to three punches from him.
[You have levelled up! You’re now Level 42! Five Free Stat points have been rewarded!]
“Oh boy~ It’s been a while since I’ve heard from you!” laughed Leo when he heard the level up notification that he hadn’t heard in a long while, but he didn’t immediately distribute his stats and instead focused on the battle ahead.
After all, both he and Alex are currently surrounded on all sides which hampered their advance by at least half.
If they were a Lamborghini Veneno running one hundred kilometers an hour earlier, then their speed had been reduced to half. Mostly, because the mutated zombies had already joined the fray as the Z Type zombie is trying to kill the two of them with their huge number advantage.
Unfortunately for the Z, they might have the number advantage, but their strength does not even come close to the zombies that Leo had faced back in Washington. Who were far more dangerous than the ones surrounding Alex and Leo.
It’s something to be happy about, but at the same time, it’s also quite saddening because most of the zombies are soldiers, still wearing their combat uniforms.
Which explains why the horde is weaker as these brave soldiers must have put up one last hurrah even when they didn’t have proper weapons during the initial chaos.
“Get the f*ck off my way!” Leo angrily swung his sword, then leapt towards the skies and plunged his sword that’s pulsing with energy towards the ground while yelling, “[Sword Quake!]”
Kaboom!
A devastating energy spread throughout the surrounding fifty meters of Leo, before that destructive energy detonated to the surface, killing hundreds of normal zombies and mutant zombies into pieces of decaying flesh!
Alex had even quickly retreated away from Leo the moment he leapt towards the skies as he was afraid that he might get up in the ensuing explosion even with the protection of his PSA.
Enough to show how devastating that ability that Leo had executed.
Even those crazed zombies stopped in place like they were statues, then they suddenly retreated like a wave of locusts, an action that startled both Leo and Alex.
“S-shit! Come back! Ya bastards!” yelled Leo in anger as he quickly chased after them while breathing heavily. He and Alex killed more or less five hundred of them before they decided to stop as Leo gazed at the mall in the distance with frustration.
“This Z’s survival instinct is even better than the first one we met before as it had already ruined my plans twice. Tsk! What annoying parasite” said Leo in between heavy breaths, annoyed at the intelligence of the Z.
Then he turned to Alex who was standing a distance away from him and asked, “You got any plans?”
Alex turned his head towards him and said with no hesitation, “Get the Scorpion Battle Tank here”
“Tsk! This is taking more time than we had already anticipated” said Leo after hearing his answer, and as much as he didn’t want to admit it. Alex is right, as they can only take down the zombie horde in the distance with the help of the Scorpion Battle Tank.
But both of them are already strong, so why don’t they just take the fight to the zombie nest?
It’s not that both of them hadn’t thought about it, but the problem is that even though they are already strong enough to take on the zombie horde in their nest with only the two of them.
But that kind of situation would only be possible if they are fighting in a wide area like earlier. Where the horde can only surround them, and swarm them with their numbers.
But it would be different at the mall, where the zombies would be able to attack both of them in all directions with the help of those Striker Zombies that attack using their long tentacle-like tongue, except from below.
Which would raise the difficulty by a notch because Alex and Leo would now need to also look out for attacks coming from above them.
Another plausible thing would be to enter their nest, the mall, and fight the horde in a narrow space, but the problem is that some mutant zombies are capable of taking down cemented walls that are only a foot wide.
But of course, Leo had also thought of another plan.
And that is to just bomb them with multiple mortars, which would be another expense as he would need to purchase mortars from the [System].
The pros would be that they would be able to eliminate most of the zombie horde, and the cons is that his men wouldn’t have much experience in facing large numbers of zombies, and most of all, they would need to undergo training on how to operate them.
Which would take more time than already planned.
“Alright then, change of plans. We are gonna rob those banks around here, especially the gold bars stored inside their vaults. After that, we’re gonna rescue those stuck in that naval ship, as I’m been wondering why they needed to live on that ship and not erect a survivor base somewhere in the island”
Now that the plans that Leo had concocted before this skirmish had gone through the mud, he could only turn to those plans he had been delaying until now.
Because there’s really no other choice if that mutant zombie decides to hole up its forces inside its stronghold.
“Such a troublesome bastard just had to hole up here. If you were in Manchester, it wouldn’t even take two hours to eliminate you” said Leo in annoyance as he turned around and headed towards the extraction point with Alex following closely behind him.
Meanwhile,
“The horde actually retreated”
“Really?!”
“The two of them are that strong? Then aren’t they literally monsters?!”
Bella and the rest of the crew are currently waiting on top of a twelve story tall hotel near the beach and not far from the Pearl Harbor Naval Base, while those who have their own binoculars were watching what’s happening in the distance even though it’s barely visible.
“Hmm…it seems Plan B didn’t go according to plan,” said Lin as he put down the binoculars in his hands when he saw the horde retreating back like a wave.
Then he turned towards the people around him and ordered, “Get in group of four to five people and head down, and search inside the hotel for anything useful and bring them back here”
“Also, if you meet any survivors inside, bring them back here but don’t let your guard down. You guys already know that not only zombies that we need to watch out for”
“Yes sir!”
Then the soldiers and volunteers grouped themselves up, and entered the building through the rooftop door.
“Carl, wait”
Carl was about to follow the group from behind them when a hand suddenly grabbed his shoulder, “What’s the matter, Lin?”
Lin looked at him straight in the eyes, “Don’t hesitate to kill anyone you deem as a threat to the group, and quickly fall back if you meet more than one mutant zombie”
“I know the drill, don’t worry. I’m more worried about those kids” replied Carl with a smile before he hurriedly followed after the group that had just left.
‘I wonder what’s next?’
Thought Lin as he gazed into the distance.
