Stronghold In The Apocalypse - Chapter 256
Roar!!!
“Holy sh*t! It’s a Running back!”
Bella couldn’t help but let out an exclamation when she saw the familiar monster in the hallway.
“Running back?! That’s a weird way to name it” Austin creased his eyebrows when he heard that and couldn’t help but let out a suppressed laugh while preparing to unleash his ability on the monster that’s currently being suppressed under Carl’s hellfire of a machine gun.
“Well, because they love running! Anyway, I’m going in!” Bella yelled as she quickly charged forward as she clenched her hand into fist, and it started to slowly crackle with black electric current.
“Hurry up! I’m running low on fumes!” Carl yelled angrily as his gun was almost reaching its breaking point!
“3 o’clock!” Bella yelled with a cry as she dashed past Carl with a determined look on her face, then followed by Austin who was running just behind her.
“Aerial Shield!”
Austin yelled while running before stopping beside Carl and immediately executed his mutant ability, and materializing before the two of them as it created a wall made of wind.
Then Carl immediately stopped firing when he saw that Bella was almost near the monster, while the monster on the other hand could finally take a breather, along with its body that’s riddled with bullet wounds, and even with such heavy injuries, it was still alive and kicking.
“Thunder Blast!”
Bella arrived before the zombie and gave a yell as she jumped towards it with a clenched fist and punched out with a thunderous boom as her fist covered in arcs of electricity landed on the zombie’s oversized shoulder!
Bang!
The impact from Bella’s ability was so impactful that it sent the Charger Zombie crashing down through the wall of the room behind it.
When that happened, Carl suddenly burst forward as his feet slid along the floor as he came into a quick stop, and came standing before Bella, before immediately brandishing his mounted saber as he dashed towards the incapacitated zombie and stabbed his weapon through its thick neck as it gave a little resistance before being penetrated through, then Carl gave the blade a jerk as it came out on the side, splashing disgusting black blood on the ground and finally killing the zombie in the process.
“That’s it? It’s that easy?” Austin said, as he wasn’t expecting it to be this easy to kill a Charger Zombie.
Carl raised an eyebrow, and with a snort, he said, “Easy? It was already half dead when you guys came. If it wasn’t for my gun, then suppressing it from running around would have been difficult as its something that only a machine gun can do”
“Don’t underestimate this zombie, its destructiveness is only second to the Tanker Zombie. Only an experienced and fully armed group of survivors could take this down, and that’s them being lucky if there are no zombies lurking around them. Even you guys would be given a run for your money if you encounter this bastard in an open space. We’re lucky that we’re in narrow space inside this building as it restricted most of its movements”
Austin could only say with an apologetic look on his face, “Sorry”
Carl retracted his blade and patted Austin on the shoulder as he walked past him saying, “It’s fine, but I guess we’re truly lucky this time”
Bella, who had been silent and staring at the monster until now, opened her mouth and asked, “What do you mean?”
While looking at the condition of his mini gatling, Carl pointed at the monster behind him with his thumb and said, “It must be a new one as it just stood there and stupidly defended itself with its arms and took everything I unloaded like a dumbas*”
“There’s zombies like that?” Bella sounded surprised as it was the first time she’s hearing something like that.
Carl was radioing the others, and told them the coast is clear before turning his attention back to Bella saying, “Yeah, I’ve had multiple encounters with a few different kinds of mutant zombies. Along the way, you’ll meet certain mutant zombies weaker than their counterparts, and instead, the people you should be wary about are your fellow humans. You can’t easily trust them, especially now that there’s no law and order out there to keep the darkness inside them in check”
As the three of them were making their way upstairs, Austin glanced up, then scratched his cheek before saying with some hesitation, “Does that mean we can’t easily trust you too?”
When he said that, Bella couldn’t but quickly flinched as she glared at Austin before glancing worriedly at Carl from the corner of her eye.
‘What the heck is this dude even thinking about asking something like that?! He’s gonna get himself killed!’
“Hahaha!”
On the other hand, Carl just let out a laugh saying, “Of course you should! But it shouldn’t be at a level where you’ll blindly trust us to the extent that you will get yourself killed, and with law and order restored at the survivor bases that’s under the Boss’ control, it became a paradise for ordinary people during this tough time, but it’s also a paradise for ambitious and troublesome people who’d love to cause a ruckus and get that piece of cake, called territory”
“That’s the reason why I told you two to not trust people easily, because you don’t know what kind of people you’ll meet. Even us, we only have basic trust towards the other detachments in the army, it’s because we don’t know them that well, the time that we joined under the banner of the Boss was different, which causes friction between us. No one just gets overboard as they are scared of the consequences”
“And a word of advice, the Boss is easy to get along with, but Alex? You know that guy that always wore a stern look on his face and follows the Boss almost everywhere? The boss might just imprison you if you make a mistake, but that guy would immediately kill you with no mercy if you’re ever found having any thoughts of having hostile intentions. If you’re unlucky, then he might even feed you the zombies alive”
Austin and Bella were quite surprised hearing that, and they couldn’t help but say at the same time, “He’s that scary?!”
Bella continued, “I thought he was a pretty nice guy or something along that line”
Arriving at the door leading to the rooftop, Carl lightly snorted as he opened the door and said, “Nice guy? Pfft!”
“You haven’t seen anything yet”
Austin suddenly stopped in his tracks when he remembered something and his face was suddenly filled with horror, “S-sh*t! I ate a chocolate last night, and I t-think it was his! Oh my god, am I gonna get into trouble?!”
Carl turned his head and said with laugh, “Yeah, no sh*t Sherlock!”
“No~!!!”
Carl’s knees buckled under him and let out a gut wrenching cry, while Bella just shook her head and walked away from him.
Meanwhile. Lin came walking over when he saw them and came before Carl, glanced at Austin who had a look of despair on his face, then back at Carl and said, “What’s with him?”
“Him? I think he stole the General’s chocolate last night?” replied Carl with a laugh.
Lin raised an eyebrow and said, “Are you spreading rumors again about the General again?”
“Nope”
“God, you really need a beating from him again”
Bella, who had just walked past them and overheard their conversation, suddenly had cold sweat all over her, and thought, ‘He’s right, you really shouldn’t blindly trust them! F*ck, I even believed what he said earlier! What a jerk!’
