Struggle Of Love - Chapter 14 The Needed Boy Talk
Even now, after so much hate she would direct at me, after a considerable number of incomplete arguments and after her avoiding me with no bit of care while knowing how sad and uncertain I’d feel when she does that, I still spoke to her without holding back. I learned being more careful while speaking with her, thinking properly enough leaving no room for her to dismiss me the next second. Yet, I just threw myself out there, starting a conversation to her slightly flushed face for the first time this day.
Whenever we were at one place, we had started taking opposite stands, in our own matters and sometimes in different issues and this time, I forgot to think. Somehow, she speaks opposite of what I say. I know that she deliberately does that; she would speak just like me if I wasn’t there. I have tried figuring it out but, no, I haven’t gotten any answers as to why she would like for me to be more like an enemy rather than the best friend I had been to her. She looked at me a little annoyed but didn’t say anything back, her face falling back to show the usual carelessness. Just like that, my shoulders slumped and a familiar bitterness took abode in my heart. There was nothing I could do other than calming myself down.
The suit was big enough. It had two inner rooms along with the big hall we are in right now.
“We’ll be in that room,” Jessy said as she pointed to one of the rooms and the girl’s went in, leaving us out. Suddenly, I remembered that Ton could raise some questions which would not be nice to hear, especially in front of James.
“Now that they are not here, we can talk all we want!” James was the most cheerful of us all. Though he was the oldest and the most matured, he would only seldom act like that. However serious the situation may turn, he would be able to take the right decision staying calm for the rest of us. “But let’s go in that room so there’s no risk of them suddenly coming out and hearing things,” he said and we went in the other room before he checked the main door and made sure if was safe if we all stayed in. Indeed something has to be wrong; when did he turn so secretive? He also bolted the room.
“Better be safe,” he said. I highly doubt that he doesn’t talk whatever he talks with us with Jessy too. But anyway, we always did this. Boys need boy talk. In fact, we would even meet up without the knowledge of the girls, mostly, James calling up and just coming to talk for a half-hour. I could see something was bothering him but he would say nothing if I asked. He will turn totally mute when I say that I think he has some problem.
“Now then, I have missed a lot. Tell me everything, Sai,” Ton started, getting comfortable in the couch while James and I were on the sitting on the bed. Why wasn’t the park enough this time? Locking ourselves in the rooms is very new. I am sure this has nothing to do with how the couple’s earnings have increased. James has always been an amazing and reputed doctor. The hikes are mostly from Jessy and her ice-cream shop.
Somehow, my worry of James has increased with this arrangement. Jessy would not allow him book a hotel room like this unless she was willing, more so, unless she needed it. Maybe, James is not the only one we had to worry about. Who knows what’s going on with the couple?
“You know everything.” He does know everything he needs to know about.
“Just the old things, Tonny, they became a little more … bad,” James said referring to May and me.
“I never saw Jessy saying such a thing to you. And you James, don’t call me that, I am your ‘kid’ remember?”
“That’s because you are never here.” I didn’t exactly accuse him though.
Then, James asked me, “What did she say?” My moment of fright awoke as I heard James.
