Struggle Of Love - Chapter 41 Ice Creams
We were all very happy. At that time, I did not think that I would miss him so much. Phone calls and video calls were just not enough.
He was already away for two years when I finished graduation. Then, I planned on taking up a job. I was a regular customer to the ice-cream shop located further towards the south from the park. It was a rather fancy ice-cream parlour in our area. It was also a big branch and their zonal office was a part of it. After discussing with mom and dad, we decided it to be the most convenient idea. Though dad was against it in the beginning, he was convinced later on.
Though we talked every day, I didn’t want to tell James that I decided on trying for it. After all, I was rejected for a lot of internships that I applied. He knew all of those. Oh, why show him another failure, I had thought. In fact, I was not confident enough that I would land in the job.
I had a nice friend from the Berryfield. She was the receptionist and I was a regular customer who lived very nearby. That was how I became friends with her. I asked her what was required to get the job that I was interested in. The companies indeed specify the particulars of the job. Nonetheless, getting a proper guidance and suggestion from someone inside the company would do a lot of help. Speaking to Winter, I understood that the competition was high and the need for professionalism was above what an average company demanded.
She also told me that those with higher qualifications would also be trying for the job and most of the time; the position will be filled in by someone from the company itself. I might have a rather less chance at success. However, she said that their company preferred fresh candidates than someone who has worked with another company. Why would any company do that? According to her, it was because; the company believed that those who start their professional carriers with Berryfield did not leave it as much as the other chunk did. I was surprised to know that people would leave Berryfield once they were in. What problems did it have? Winter assured that it was not because they had problems with the company, but because of the higher incentives offered by the competitor ice-cream seller to take away the human resources of Berryfield. It was a prestigious company, after all.
I prepared well and when I attended for the interview after clearing some rounds, my confidence, whatever came from clearing those small rounds was completely faded. There were more experienced and qualified ones. However, it came as quite a surprise when I knew that I was selected.
I wanted to tell him, but not over the phone. In another two days he would come home and I wanted to surprise him then. So the evening of the day I got the good news, I went to the ice-cream parlour and met Winter. She was surprised as well.
“Wow! You did it! No! We did it!” She exclaimed. “You’re amazing! We’ll be working together! Congratulations!” She hugged me.
“Thank you,” I told her.
“You know? I think they were impressed with your calm, collected and always levelled attitude.”
Though it was a junior manager post, there were more and more qualified candidates. Winter could be right that they liked my personality. I thought the same.
“Maybe, so I will buy some ice-creams to take home,” I told her.
“Celebrating at home?” she asked she packed those I selected.
“Mmm, I’ll be going then,” I bid her farewell and returned home.
Two more days for him to be home. Of course, love grows fonder with distance.
