Stuck as a Villain! - Chapter 174: SS:The conversation
Myadeath’s source of powers emerges from the very soul of those beings whom she devoured.
She had a limitless growth potential with the strength to attain numerous abilities until she could continue to consume souls. She was that darkness that could engulf, adapt, and make someone else’s specialty hers.
In the original novel, she was met with a tragic death at the hands of the protagonist. After Arata defeats Maydeath fair and square, Maya takes it upon her ego. Her title of being the ‘Undefeatable’ was taken down by Arata and because of that, she had a death match with the protagonist.
After the opening ceremony, Arata shows signs of possessing the Thunder Emperor in the last round of the tournament while battling against Maydeath and killing her at the end.
However, unlike the original Maydeath who was limited by her ego and lack of foresight, Miyuki did everything in her power to become stronger, better, and worthy enough to stand beside her lord one day.
She not only challenged those beings who were superior to her in strength but practically could have crushed her at any single point of carelessness, she expanded her region of influence as well.
In the continent of Elitwiq, she had a separate identity of an S-ranked adventurer. There were numerous merchants who were working under her control. She built public amenities and made relations with aristocrats through her pseudo-identity.
Maydeath transformed herself into someone who no longer shies away from any circumstances and faces every obstacle with a bold front. It wasn’t just that she got such traits that helped her become this independent and strong rather she worked hard day after day.
If anyone then Maydeath only could have allowed herself to be nervous in front of her love—her Seth.
…or what she thought.
“So you are an orphan without any last name, huh…”
“Y-yes.”
Maydeath has been involved in a conversation with many high nobilities and people in the position of influencing kingdoms at their whim but currently, sitting in front of the lady of Ducal house Albeck, Maydeath found herself stuttering after who knows how long.
It wasn’t just her strength, Valarie was the only person who could influence Seth to the point he could abandon Maydeath right here and right now.
Maydeath has heard about Valarie’s tales and how she once dominated a whole army that infiltrated Ranghaur’s main fort through a secret passage.
Valarie wasn’t just courageous and a figure to be idolized but she was a strong woman who created a distinguished standing for herself in the society.
Maydeath couldn’t be brash here or she might get even more disliked by Valarie. Maydeath had already scolded Eleanor just some moments ago, which surely would have left a bad impression on Valarie.
“Don’t be so nervous and tell me about you and your interests.”
While Valarie elegantly sliced the steak without a single sound of the cutlery, she asked the girl. Valarie’s demeanor seemed relaxed and unconcerned but in reality, she was here on inspection.
Maydeath paused a bit and took a bite of her pancake(why was she served pancakes when she doesn’t like sweets?) before responding in a more stable tone.
“You know about me more or less since there isn’t anything interesting about my background or past, I won’t dwell over it much. As for my interests, I like painting, training, and spending time with Seth.”
Valarie raised her brows at that before asking, “Quite bold of you to say that in front of me. Without any surname or background, you have entered my son’s house and his bedroom… quite a lecherous kind of woman—*Crack*—you are, Maydeath.” Despite hearing the plate breaking in which Maydeath was eating, Valarie didn’t halt from speaking her mind.
Lara panicked at the side upon witnessing the changed aura of Maydeath.
Her head hung low, hands trembling as in a condensed tone she retaliated, “Don’t interpret my love for Seth with such vulgar words, Lady Valarie.”
Lara’s stress only amplified when Valarie’s aura began to clash with Maydeath’s—slightly domineering the latter’s by a thin margin while the blond lady’s expression remained unchanged.
“So you say but why should I believe that what you harbor for my son is love, not greed?”
Hearing the words, Maydeath cooled herself down. She knew the woman was just testing her here. Her aura diminished soon and the air around the room returned to normal.
Maydeath looked directly into the eyes of the Duchess before relaying her answer, “I love Seth not because of his status as your son or his individual strength. I love him for the person he is. Even if the world turns against him, I alone will declare myself against the world and stand by his side. It’s no mere fleeting romance of a maiden, lady Valarie, my whole being is devoted to keeping Seth happy for the rest of my life.”
A long, uncomfortable silence ensued in the hall as Valarie continued her usual pace to finish her meal.
Seeing Valarie getting up from her seat wordlessly, Maydeath realized that she had messed up a big time. Though she didn’t regret what she said just now, she could have used a different way of expressing her thoughts.
However, against her expectations, Valarie halted in her steps and turned to look at the girl before announcing something that flipped Maydeath’s mood in an instant.
“You have that potential, Maydeath, to become a significant half of my son. Next time when we meet, I am hoping for a more peaceful conversation.”
