“Thank you, thank you guys for saving me. These are the fruits you wanted!”
Under the locust tree, the rescued fatty thanked Adams and Vivian profusely and presented the eight remaining fruits.
Adams looked at the fist-sized fruit. Its appearance was no different from a normal rock. If not for the system’s hint, no one would have thought that this would be an S-rank equipment material.
After putting all the Spiritual Locust Fruits into his quantum ring, Adams looked at the fatso and asked, “Good job. What’s your name?”
“Garen Hunter,” the fatso said with his head lowered. Adams was like a God in his heart now. He was an existence that could not be looked at in the eyes. Otherwise, it would be blasphemy against someone so powerful.
Vivian, who was standing next to Adams, was clearly more like a leader. She immediately asked, “Garen, I saw that you were very accurate when you were smashing the fruits at those scorpions, pretty much with unfailing accuracy. How did you do it?”
Garen Hunter scratched his head in embarrassment and said shyly, “My job is a postman. I have to deliver newspapers to every household daily. Sometimes, when I don’t have enough time, I’ll throw them in through the window of the family who subscribes to the newspapers. After some time, I developed that accuracy!”
Hearing that, Vivian turned to Adams and said, “To obtain such rare talent with such accurate throwing abilities, you’ve really picked up a treasure this time!”
In actuality, Vivian could already tell that Adams was very interested in Garen’s abilities. With Adams’ abilities, he would form a more reliable team sooner or later. Someone like Garen, who looked like a yes-man and had a specialised skill, would definitely be groomed to a large extent by Adams.
As the first person to follow Adams, if Vivian wanted to become the second-best person in Adams’ team, she had to make herself appear different from the others.
That was why she had recommended Garen’s abilities to Adams as soon as possible. Not only could she prove her foresight to Adams, she could also flaunt her status in front of Galen.
Adams didn’t think too much about it. He nodded and said to Garen, “Miss Vivian and I plan to round up the survivors scattered in the mountains and fight the Zergs together. Are you willing to join us?”
Garen immediately raised his head upon hearing this, and exclaimed excitedly, “I’m willing! Of course I’m willing! You saved my life. I would be more than willing to follow you!”
“Very good, very energetic!” Adams patted Garen’s shoulder in satisfaction. Then, he took out ten Lightning Spell Scrolls from his quantum ring and said, “You are now the bomb thrower in the team. Use these as ammunition first. I will replenish it for you when you’ve used them up!”
“Yes!” Garen replied to him. Then, he stared at the scrolls in his hands in a daze. He had no idea how to use these things, nor did he know their value.
When Vivian saw this, she could not help but say, “This, this is the best C-rank magic scroll. If we were to sell it on the black market, one scroll can be exchanged for 100 slaves or 1,000 kilograms of food!”
Adams looked at Vivian with a nonchalant expression, and said, “Firstly, I don’t lack food. Secondly, I think that the most important thing right now is to return alive. If I can’t bear to use these scrolls even in the face of death, then they’re just a pile of trash! Thus, only by passing these scrolls to Garen can they be put to their greatest use!”
Hearing this, Garen couldn’t help but look down at the scrolls in his hand. Thinking about how they were worth five tons of food, his legs immediately turned to jelly and he fell to his knees in front of Adams. With tears in his eyes, he said gratefully, “Big Brother, thank you for your trust. I definitely won’t disappoint you!”
“Just call me Adams. We have to hurry up and get moving!” Adams smiled as he pulled Garen up before leading the way up the mountain.
Vivian stood rooted to the ground for a long time. Looking at Adams’ towering back view, she suddenly understood something.
No matter how hard she tried, hse was unable to raise her status within Adams’ team. No matter how hard she tried, she would be overshadowed by Adams’ generosity!
However, Vivian was still determined to keep up with Adams. After all, Adams had the same goal as her, and it was only by staying next to Adams that she could feel safe and secure.
Under Adams’ lead, Vivian and Garen searched the entire mountain with him. What made them feel incredulous was that every once in a while, Adams would find some survivors.
“Hint! There are humans in the ravine 500 meters ahead that need reinforcements!”
At the bottom of the steep cliff, a skinny young man was clinging onto a wilted root for dear life. As his strength was gradually depleted, he could not help but shed tears of despair.
“Hey, how’s the view down there?”
Suddenly, a voice came from above. Immediately after, a thick vine appeared before his eyes. It was as if a stairway to heaven that was radiating a holy light, had descended into the dark hell.
The young man subconsciously reached out his hand and grabbed the vine tightly. When he looked up, he saw a tall, handsome man with a dark blue sword hanging at his waist. The man looked like a General God guarding the entrance of Heaven.
“Ex-excuse me, are you a God?” the youth murmured.
The man on top smiled and shook his head as he said, “I am Adams! You’ve been saved!”
As soon as he finished speaking, the vine was swiftly pulled up and the young man was hauled up.
Once he got back on land, the young man lay on the ground in extreme excitement. He made a huge gesture of hugging the ground and bawled loudly with tears streaming down his face, venting the pressure he had accumulated over the past few days.
After the young man gradually stopped crying, he realized that Adams and Vivian were standing in front of him. Behind them were five companions who were in the same sorry state as himself.
“This is the last one. There are no more survivors on the mountain!” Adams did not look at the young man whom he had saved. Instead, he looked down the mountain and exclaimed confidently.
Vivian also nodded in silence. She had already scoured the entire mountain twice with Adams, so there was no way that they would have missed anything. Furthermore, if it weren’t for Adams persisting in the search, she would have given up long ago.
Adams turned to the group he had rescued and beckoned Garen closer.
“I have some food here. Distribute it to everyone. We’ll discuss where to go next while eating!” As Adams spoke, he took out some fruits, honeycomb, and a large piece of fresh meat from his quantum ring and handed them all to Garen.
“These foods are for us?” Garen asked in disbelief.
Adams nodded.
Garen swallowed his saliva and shouted to the others, “Come quickly, we have food! Big Brother Adams gave us food!”
The starving crowd looked at the food with longing in their eyes, but none of them went forward to snatch it. Instead, they stood up one after another to thank Adams before accepting the food from Garen.
This was because they venerated Adams, who had saved them, like a God!
In front of a God, they did not dare to behave recklessly!
Vivian looked on with a pained expression as everyone wolfed down all of the rare foods that had once brought her so much happiness to the point of tears. “Actually, I still have some black bread that I can distribute to everyone! You should keep such precious food for yourself, and use it as a reward for motivating people or distributing it to the core members. Only then can you use it to the fullest!”
Adams shook his head and said, “Those are other people’s rules. With me, I’ll make sure they’re fed!”
