Super Nanites - Chapter 13: CHAPTER 13: I am No Hero!!

“RETARD. RETARD”

Alex got baffled when he heard the automated system calling out retard. Then, he noticed the speed indicator was flashing with red, showing thrust is too high and the altitude started dropping even more crazily with the high speed. Alex then gently pulled the power lever backwards lowering the speed while keeping the plane at a stable altitude of 17,000 feet, until the alarm and red indicator stopped.

His back was drenched with cold sweat and he could see the river nearing, he didn’t waste any time and once again lowered the control stick gently, lowering the altitude of the plane.

16,000 feet.

14,000 feet.

10,000 feet.

Alex tightly gripped the control as he watched the speed and altitude meter and lowered the speed trying to slow down. He doesn’t know the optimal landing speed but he does know he can’t be going too low speed or the plane will stall and fall. So, he watched the systems as he slowed.

9,000 feet.

5,000 feet.

3,000 feet.

The automated system didn’t give any warning or emergency indications, which meant he was doing correct, now all he had to do is control the speed and land this plane peacefully and not crash it in the water. “You can do it Alex, this is just like car parking, you don’t bump into any other cars, here, you don’t go straight into the water”. Alex comforted himself with such words lightening his mind of stress.

He then stopped all but one vision and only concentrated on the controls and one vision which is at the bottom of the plane at the landing gear. He was able to see the ground level and could know how hard he was going to hit the water and can control the force by having the vision to see. As he was a few hundred meters away from the prime location to land the plane. The plane continued on descending lower and lower and the speed constantly decreased.

2,000 feet..

1,000 feet.

500 feet..

300 feet.

200 feet

As the plane reached 200 feet, the alarms blared, Alex looked at the control systems and saw the red light flashing at the landing gear. He didn’t respond and focused on the outside vision and watched as the plane getting closer and closer to water level.

While Alex was trying to land the plane. The air-force jets that had been following the plane has been relaying the live video from the recorders to their base of operation. To the people, it was crystal clear that someone was going to land the plane on the water and they hurried to contact the local police of the emergency and prepare for the ferries and boats the get the passengers out if it landed successfully.

A higher ranked military commander was staring at the screen when an adjutant came and whispered something in his ear. The middle-aged officer eyes widened and he asked through gritted teeth. “Have you confirmed, it’s them?”.

“Yes, sir”. The report arrived from the intelligence department and they confirmed, that it was them.

“So, they are once again back after many years of hiding. I wonder how they felt when they found out their operation went haywire due to a young man”. The anger he had before cooled down and his eyes glinted sharply as a playful smile appeared on his face.

The adjutant didn’t reply and just stared at the screen watching as the plane descended ever more closely towards the water.

100 feet

50 feet

25 feet

Alex stared at the controls as drops of sweat slid down his forehead and passed on to his straight nose and dripped onto his hand sending a shock throughout his body, at the same time the plane touched the water with a loud splash and bounced up slightly as Alex fully lowered the lever and control to its end.

The plane cut through the water waves and slid on the water as it reached closer and closer to the shore of the ground.

BANG!!

With a heavy bang followed by a tearing sound, the plane passed the water level as the front part of the plane hit the rugged ground and climbed onto the shore and got stopped by the force at last.

Alex swiftly got out of the pilot’s seat and went out of the cockpit and saw the mother and child duo as well as the a=flight attendant and the other three males seated on. Their faces filled with uncontrollable joy as they saw the ground through the windows. Alex passed by them and reached the economy cabin and shouted, “The plane has been successfully landed, Its time to go out, leave the luggage and get out of here first. I don’t know if the plane is damaged. So its better to get out first”.

After hearing what Alex said everyone scrambled out of their seats and walked towards the exit. While Alex returned back towards the cockpit and saw the 5 members walking at the exit.

As they saw Alex their faces lit up and thanked him profusely for saving their lives and hailed him as someone great. Alex simply nodded and looked at the flight attendant Anna, and saw her pulse is stable. He then said, “Get off this plane fast and you two help me carry the bodies of pilots and attendants. We can’t leave their bodies to incase the plane catches fire”.

The two men nodded and let the other person carry the flight attendant. While they walked with Alex into the cockpit. As they entered and saw the blood and bodies one of them turned around and puked, making the already smelly cabins even more disastrous. The other person held out well as he just took deep breaths and calmed down quickly.

Alex opened the medicine cabinet and found large bags, he took them out and said, “Place the bodies in them and it will be easier to carry out and not let the children see them”.

They both nodded and started putting the bodies into the bags when they heard the helicopters sounds approaching them. They placed the two pilots and the two attendants inside the bags and slowly followed Alex as he dragged the body by their legs. As they neared the exit they heard shouts FireFireFirethen plane has caught fire.

Alex and they sped up their pace and reached the exit and watched the people running away from the plane while a few people stood near the ramp and saw them. They shouted aloud, “Hey, come out fast, the planes on fire”.

Alex pushed the body onto the ramp and shouted back, “Move those bodies away” and carried on pushing the three bodies and said to the two men.

“You both get the body of the dead passenger, I will bring the remaining body”. They nodded and went into the economy cabin and got hold of the Air Marshall and another went to the dark-skinned person who was shot dead.

Alex turned around and went to drag the body of the person, as he returned to exit he could see smoke covering the cabin in the back. He pushed the body down and watched as helicopters started landing and out came ‘National Emergency Department’ (NED) agents. He also slid down the ramp and walked away from the plane to a safe distance.

The people looked as Alex came out of the plane and someone started shouting, “HeroHeroHero”!!. This was followed by everyone and sound became so deafening with their shouts that the burning of plane and sound of rotating blades seemed to disappear. It seemed they all are shouting to release their pent up emotions and only after a few seconds did the chants calmed as well as the agitated emotions of the people.

Alex smiled at this ironic situation, where he was being hailed as a hero, while the plane is burning and six bodies lay near them. He shook his head and after reaching a safe distance he sat down on the ground and watched as the plane burned. While the few agents that arrived went to calm the passengers and brief them on their situation and looking for any critically wounded passenger and take them back to the hospital in the helicopter.

A female agent walked towards him and stood at his behind and spoke, “I thank you on behalf of our department for saving these passengers, Mr Alexander”. Her voice was respectful and friendly.

Alex looked back and replied, “All I did in the end was to save myself. I hope you can stop the spread of my information to any media, I don’t want to get bugged by newspapers and people constantly. So, I hope you can hide my information”.

The female agent nodded and said, “We will Mr. Alex, now if you could please come with me back to the city before anybody will take snaps of your picture. After a little detailed investigation and checkup, you can return back to your home”.

Alex nodded and stood up patting his pants of dust and walked towards the helicopter with the female agent while muttering “I Am No HERO!!”.
