75 Mystic Roots, Duel
Erix, Rin, and Isabella finished their one-hour session in the Limitless Plane, and their expressions were content when their eyes opened.
After all, they had managed to create a skill that the strange system recognized!
“Now, let’s go and finish the guild tasks and recruitment.”
Erix, Rin, and Isabella walked out of the cherry blossom tree palace. Aaron was not with them because Isabella left him in the Heavenly Melody guild. There were people in that guild who had small kids, and they played safely within the territory, so it was better for Aaron to stay there in Isabella’s absence.
“We’ll also have to visit the city,” Erix murmured, but enough for Isabella and Rin to hear. “I need blood pouches because my last one will be gone soon.”
Rin and Isabella nodded.
And just as they approached the gate, they saw people gathering and coming closer.
“Hello! Can you please tell us the requirement to join your guild?!”
“I have a powerful offensive class! I can make all sorts of bombs with it!”
“I got two healing-type skills, and my class is also healer-based, so I can help a lot! Please accept me as an official member of the guild!”
People were shouting to become official members of the guild.
After all, there were only ten guilds, including Unfettered Fate, so the number of people who could become official guild members was low. Many sought Guild Creation Slates, but it was not an easy-to-get item.
“Hmm, let’s finish the recruitment first,” Erix said with a smile after thinking about something. “Alright.”
Isabella and Rin nodded.
“He can fly!”
“What kind of powers does he have?”
People started discussing while watching Erix flying up without wings.
“Be quiet and listen to me!”
Erix’s voice loudly resounded as everyone slowly turned quiet.
“If you want to join Unfettered Fate, there is a very basic and important first requirement!”
Erix crossed his arms as he sharply smiled. “You can make a team of three people and come at me with your all. If I deem you good enough, you will join the guild.”
Hearing his words, many were dumbfounded.
But seeing as Erix floated calmly with confidence and sternness around him after speaking fluidly, people automatically perceived him as someone superior to them.
Not all, of course. “What about a duel between us? If I win, you will transfer ownership of your guild to me.”
People were shocked at the statement and soon saw a short crimson-haired man in his early twenties flying up from the crowd with black feathered wings, facing Erix as he floated ten meters away.
Erix raised his eyebrows, his eyes toggling on the Aura Vision as he measured the man’s aura.
‘Not bad. Looks like he is at Supra-order rank and also got his class.’
“Cat got your tongue, mate?” the man let out a laugh.
But Erix just chuckled at his taunt and said, “Sure. If you win, this guild will be yours. But If I win, you will become my subordinate.”
[ Duel condition recognized by Mystic Roots. ]
Suddenly, Erix and the crimson-haired man heard a notification before a large [ Duel ] appeared in the sky above them, startling all people who were watching.
“Yo, what the heck is that?!”
“Duel? Did the system recognize their duel as an official duel?! Was this possible before?”
“Damn, we are getting new shit on our faces every single day!”
[Contract formed. Please put your thumb on it if you want to proceed with the duel with your bets. The winner’s bet will be forcefully activated upon the duel’s result.]
The conditions that would apply after the man became Erix’s subordinate were simple instead of a slave-like situation:
1. Leo must listen to Erix’s command unless that command would result in his death, decided by Mystic Roots. 2. Leo must not betray Erix or the guild or even produce such thoughts about harming him or the guild. Aside from these two conditions, he was free, just like any other human.
‘Is Mystic Roots the name of the system that’s responsible for all of this?’ Erix wondered. He narrowed his eyes and slightly glanced at Leo as he saw a clear moment of hesitation in his body language.
Upon seeing that, Erix cracked a grin and put his thumb on the contract. “Alright, I signed it. You should also go ahead with it unless you’re all bark and no bite.”
“Don’t worry. If you are not good enough, I’ll free you,” Erix said with a cheeky grin. “After all, I don’t want weak people in my guild.”
Leo clenched his fists and put his thumb on the contract. ‘The subordinate condition is not that hard even if I lose since it only prevents me from betraying him and his people, which I wouldn’t do anyway without a good reason.’
“But that is…if I lose, mate,” Leo grinned and pulled up his thumb. Both contracts disappeared before a strange ray passed through them out of nowhere.
[ Erix. HP: 100% ] [ Leo. HP: 100% ]
[ You will experience pain and injuries like usual, but once the duel is over with anyone’s HP hitting 0%, the duel will end, and both parties will recover to full. ]
[ Duel On! ]
“Make your move,” Erix said with his hands behind his back. His hands were a bit trembling due to excitement. ‘So, I can go all out in a duel against people of similar level and powers… Hope this guy is good.’ N(O)v3l-/BJn was the first platform to present this chapter.
Leo took a deep breath and pointed his hand at Erix before a ball of flame conjured before his palm. ‘That doesn’t seem like a normal fireball,’ Erix’s eyes glinted. ‘Interesting.’
“Erix! This is my most powerful attack! It will be my loss if you can defend against it without getting injured!”
Erix furrowed his brows.
‘He is shooting a fireball with 100 mana plus a similar amount of some other energy, probably of his class core, at me and calling it his most powerful attack?’
With Aura Vision capable of sensing aura, he could now gauge how much energy was contained in an attack. Leo’s fireball was powerful but clearly not powerful enough to call it his most powerful attack. Even without Aura Vision, he could perceive that much.
Naturally, he guessed that Leo was speaking something and planned on doing something else.
“Alright, shoot,” Erix nonchalantly said while modifying the nodes of his recently created skill.
The fireball shot forward, but Erix’s gaze was focused on Leo.
But a second later, Leo vanished from his spot when the fireball was just a meter away from Erix.
“I am here, mate!”
Leo exchanged his place with the fireball, and in his hand was a fiery, condensed dagger with crimson blood patterns aimed at Erix’s head with ruthless and cold precision.
