“Done? Are you kidding me, child?” the manager chuckled. He’s filled with disbelief because even with his experience and strength, he still needs around four hours to finish tilling the field.
From Qin Lan’s skinny arms and legs, he doesn’t look like someone with experience in tending the field at all.
‘Maybe he’s just hungry and wanted to get a meal earlier… I should be lenient to him as this was his first time.’ the manager thought. He remembered that when he first comes to the farm to help, he behaves similarly to Qin Lan.
For the sake of having a meal earlier, he would skip a few parts here and there just to make things done faster. But only after becoming a manager that he knew these tricks were nothing new. Almost everyone here did this once in their life before.
“Come and grab something to eat first. I’ll be checking the field later to make sure it’s done correctly.” said the manager.
As someone that made the same mistake once while he was younger, the manager sounded like a proper teacher with a mentality. Such a person should always be given priority because of their clear conscience and honest piece of heart.
“I can assure you that the soil was done correctly without missing a spot. Shall we go and take a look? I can eat while we take a look on the field anyway.” Qin Lan said after taking two flour cakes with him.
“Why not? I’m looking forward to seeing the result of your work. Since you look so confident to the point of suggesting that I should go and take a look, then let us get on our way.” the manager said and pulled a bamboo out from a toolbox.
From the look of it, this bamboo stick is something he will be used to check the quality of the field Qin Lan tiled.
Going up and down from the field together, the manager was soon impressed by Qin Lan’s job. The area was indeed appropriately plowed and ready for the plants to be transferred here at any time.
“Can I know what kind of plants the villagers are going to plant here if it’s not inconvenient for me to know?” Qin Lan asked as he was about to finish the first cake in his hand.
“What is inconvenient about answering you? We’re going to move the young shoots of the Oxhorn Root over here and grow them in the next two months. By the time of harvest, a field like this will be enough for the village to earn around a hundred Flesh Tempering Pill.”
The manager proudly answered what’s their plan for this field.
It seems that this farming business was a part of the income for this nameless village. And because most of the youths from this village willingly joined the Iron Flesh Sect as their outer sect disciples, this allowed the settlement to continue to exist around this area.
But of course, none of the villagers knew what the youths were doing within the Inner Sect.
“What do you think? Look at that plot of Oxhorn Roots over there. We’re about to harvest it in the few days.” the manager pointed at the neighboring plot of cultivation plants.
“They look great.” Qin Lan held off part of his conscience while answering the manager’s question. If he wasn’t indebted to these villagers for accepting him and providing him with some clothing and food, he would be labeling all of them as an idiot right now.
Furthermore, he can’t believe that a farm of Oxhorn Roots like this would only be worth a hundred Flesh Tempering Pill.
From his primary suspicion, the people from this nameless village are either getting extorted, or they’re fooled.
Although the prices of Oxhorn Root were low, for a farm of this size, it would at least be worth about 300 to 400 Flesh Tempering Pills. While the uses of Oxhorn Root were limited, they’re still considered precious resources for those in the Flesh Refining Realm.
The Oxhorn Root was the main ingredient for Iron Body Pill, a low-quality tempering pill suitable for Flesh Refining Realm cultivators. Although the effectiveness of this pill was just a third of a Flesh Tempering Pill, it was better than nothing.
And coincidently, this answers Qin Lan’s suspicion about why this nameless village was left untouched by the people from Iron Flesh Sect.
If his guesses weren’t wrong, this nameless village is likely spared for their contribution in cultivating a considerable amount of Oxhorn Roots for them. Based on the size of this Oxhorn Root field, their yield is likely between four to five hundred plants each harvest.
With close to ten Iron Body Pills are refinable from a single root about the size of an edible lotus root, a harvest would be worth around 5,000 Iron Body Pills. Even if the Iron Body Pill were to be sold for the price of one Flesh Tempering Pill for every five Iron Body Pills, they would still earn 1,000 Flesh Tempering Pills in profit.
Giving merely a hundred to the village is blatant extortion towards the villagers.
But while Qin Lan assumed that this was the case, he couldn’t see that same anger he had in the manager’s face. In fact, there’s a hint of happiness when he is talking about the income the farm would generate for the village.
“Well, since the work we arranged for you were done, you’re free to walk around and take a look at the village. Everyone in this village is amicable, so feel free to speak with the villagers. You can also go back to the chief’s house and see if there’s anything else for you to do.”
“You just get all of us busier today, but I think nobody will complain about it. Go get a rest. You’ve worked hard today.” the manager tapped Qin Lan’s shoulder and allowed him to leave.
“Then… Thank you, manager.” Qin Lan cupped his hand and thanked the manager before making his way back to the village. But halfway back to the settlement, he took a break under a tree to escape from the scorching heat from the sun.
Taking the opportunity to absorb the faint Spiritual Qi around him, Qin Lan tried to use every chance he had to cultivates.
