Qin Lan made his way back to the village in the evening.
Although he could have come back much earlier, he decided not to do so. As this was the first day he was helping the village, he should remain low profile, at least for now.
His reason was that the village’s existence was too weird, in his opinion. From his initial inspection, Qin Lan noticed that the cultivation strength of the villagers was relatively low. Even the villager with the highest cultivation is just at the third stage of Flesh Refining Realm.
Furthermore, no matter how weak the Iron Flesh Sect could be, it should have one or two elders with a peak Flesh Refining Realm Cultivator strength. To powerhouse like them, simply destroying this village would be as easy as a swing of their hand.
Qin Lan could also assume that the villagers were spared to cultivate the Oxhorn Root for the sect, but this possibility is also low. With the record of forcefully recruiting the youngsters into the sect, how can the sect have a problem with manpower?
With a simple order alone, the sect could easily accomplish what he has done today tenfold and covered the entire mountain with more than just Oxhorn Root. There are no requirements at all for them to plant things other than the Oxhorn Root.
“Boy! How’s working on the farm feels today? Tiring?” the guard who returned with the village chief yesterday was working on the evening shift again today. As the illumination from the sun was still strong, Qin Lan made sure that he remembered the guard’s facial features in case they met again next time.
“It was considered acceptable, guard brother.” Qin Lan amicably replied to the guard’s word.
“Anyway, quickly get inside. The villagers aren’t allowed to get out of the village at night for safety reasons. Hurry up and grab some food for dinner, and rest because you’ll need it.” the guard added before lightly pushes Qin Lan into the village using the back of his spear.
Qin Lan simply smiled at the gesture. He then followed the guard’s word and went to grab a hot meal to fill his stomach. Although he managed to talk with some villagers, they were hardly informative enough for Qin Lan.
Perhaps only the village chief and the guards knew more about the village. At the same time, Qin Lan was also curious about the guard’s warning regarding the danger at night, and he’s wondering what kind of danger at night there could be.
And he got his answer on the very same night.
Halfway in his way to dreamland, Qin Lan was woken up by the alarming sound from the drum placed around the village.
The guards were attacked, and the one Qin Lan knew almost got mauled to his death from a few Spiritual Beast’s attacks. Their initiative in attacking a human settlement surprises the guards. Although they eventually managed to kill one and injured the other, two guards were wounded and lost their ability to continue to work.
With two fewer guards on duty, the work as a night shift guard only got riskier. Nobody knew if the spiritual beast that was still alive would return to revenge or not.
And if it did, the attack would be fiercer as the partner of this spiritual beast fell to the human today.
As an outsider, there’s a limit to what Qin Lan can do to help. This is why he would instead get proper rest before the following day.
Early in the morning, before the sun came up from the east, Qin Lan used a plain excuse to go outside the village and searching for some medicinal herbs that could aid in recovery.
From the forest, he collected a few stalks of Sweet Dragon Grass and wild Blood Mandrake. Similar to the Oxhorn Root, these medicinal products can also be cultivated from the farm. But because their value is significantly lower than the Oxhorn Root, the plant was not considered a money-making plant.
He also harvested a few fruits to be brought back to the village.
But before he got ready to make a medicinal salve for the guard, Qin Lan went to the chief’s place to see if he had anything to do today. From the reply he received, there’s nothing Qin Lan could help for today. Hence, he was given a day of break.
Taking the time he had, Qin Lan went to the guard’s wooden hut and asked if he was allowed to come inside. The guard’s spouse was suspicious at first. Still, when Qin Lan said he could make her husband better, she immediately invited Qin Lin inside.
After washing some fruits and leaving them by the guard’s side, Qin Lan borrowed the kitchen to prepare the healing salve from the medicinal plants he found outside.
The process of making this healing salve is simple, and it was the only one he could make for now because Qin Lan had little to no Spiritual Qi in his core. The quality might be questionable, but Qin Lan is confident that it will be enough to treat the guard.
After playing with the ingredients for a while in the kitchen, Qin Lan appeared with three salves in hand. What he had collected was merely enough for one application. But since the guard’s injury wasn’t life-threatening, one application would be all he needed.
Qin Lan’s reason for doing so is simple.
Since he had received their favor two nights ago, it was only natural that he repaid the help he received. This would also sow good karma in his life, which he had never thought about before.
The healing salves were placed carefully on a considerably sizeable verdant leaf. Qin Lan applied the medicine to the guard’s back, neck, and torso using the leaf as a wrapper.
A soothing sensation came to the guard when he felt much comfortable than before. And since the reaction was the same as he expected, Qin Lan excused himself before leaving the house and returned to the same tree he cultivated under it yesterday.
Using his hand to sweep the leaves and gravels off from his seat, Qin Lan improves his cultivation by absorbing those faint Spiritual Qi all around him.
