“The place that I’m staying so far until now… Was the Mang Family Village I’m trying to look for?” Qin Lan asked. Since he didn’t really bother with people’s names, he ended up didn’t ask for their names wherever he went.
Furthermore, the people closest to him were the farm manager, the guard, and the village chief.
And because he usually addressed them by their title, he doesn’t even know their name.
The thought of him being too ignorant came back at him instantly. For the first time after being reincarnated into this body, Qin Lan felt that he had gone too far with his ignorance. It seems like his habit before going to seclusion wasn’t that favorable.
“Yeah.” the village chief’s son nodded. It seems that the treatment that he had two days ago was quite effective. Although his face is still more toward the paler side, he can be said to be doing much better than the first time Qin Lan saw him.
“Was it called Mang Family Village because your father was the village chief?” Qin Lan asked, and he found it weird because the surname (Mang) was quite rare, even during Qin Lan’s peak.
“You must be jesting, Benefactor. Of course, it’s because everyone in the village’s surname is Mang.” the village chief’s son answered while chuckling. He then pointed at a few other people who were also from the same village as him.
“He’s the son of the old guard. This one is the farmer’s son. And this is the blacksmith’s daughter. All of our surnames is Mang.” they replied.
“Al-Alright…” Qin Lan nodded. He was shocked by their answer. At least during his time, the possibility of having an entire village with people of the same surname is quite rare. Usually, such a thing only happens to those with a large household.
The concept was almost like a family manor. The servants, slaves, and followers would adopt the surname of their master. But in the Mang Family Village’s case, everyone assumed the same surname willingly.
Perhaps, it has something to do with the ability in literature as well.
“It’s alright, and I’ll have to go back there to check the plant I’ve planted anyway.” Qin Lan replied. Averting his attention back to the disciples queuing beside him, Qin Lan treated a few more people before calling it a day.
Since he was doing all of these for free, the disciples sharing this room willingly moved out to give Qin Lan more privacy. It was supposed to be a room for six, but only Qin Lan and the village chief’s son were staying here right now.
And to his surprise, a female disciple is delivering a meal to his doorstep today.
“Senior disciple Qin, would you like to have anything else?” the female disciple asked. The attitude is shown by the female disciple made Qin Lan feeling bewildered for a moment. But he was calm enough to simply nodded at her before seeing her off.
“Erm… The chief’s son…” Qin Lan wanted to ask him something, but he noticed that he didn’t even know his name again.
“My name is Mang Jiu, benefactor.” he introduced himself properly this time.
“Alright. Brother Jiu, stop calling me Benefactor as it was a little uncomfortable to be called like this. Also, what is with this treatment? Didn’t we have to go to collect our own food from the canteen?” Qin Lan asked.
He was lucky that the canteen has no restriction on who can get the food from there, or how much they can take. But disciple or not, everyone would have to collect their own food in each meal, unless injured.
And the food prepared for the injured is much simpler. A few corn cakes, steamed bun, porridge, and beast bone soup were all they could have.
But right now, there are at least three different dishes on Qin Lan’s dinner tray. He was served with a fish, half a chicken, and a plate of vegetables instead of plain bread and porridge.
“That’s because you’re the holder of the Iron Heart Token, and that token entitled you to be treated like an elder either in outer, inner, or core sect. It was only given to the disciples with the highest potential.” Mang Jiu said.
“I see…” Qin Lan nodded and took the Iron Heart Token out from his item pouch. He had no idea that something like this would grant him such a status in this Iron Flesh Sect.
And the more he inspected this wooden token, the more surprises he found. It seems that this token was created from a unique wood known as Golden Jade Branch. The reason it was said to be unique is due to its Spiritual Qi attraction properties. This token can also be rubbed continuously for it to produce a calming smell akin to incense.
“Look’s like the elder is someone influential inside this sect. What do you know about the elder?” Qin Lan signaled to Mang Jiu and had him coming over to his table to enjoy the food together. The latter was hesitating at first but gave up after contemplating for a while.
Nobody could resist the food on the tray except for Qin Lan, who already got used to the best and worst this world have to offer.
Mang Jiu smiled as he cleaned the meat from the quarter portion of chicken Qin Lan gave him. But he knew that he should tell what Qin Lan wanted to know.
“I think that most of us only know that Elder Gongsun was the director of the Medicinal Pavilion. But from what I heard during my time as a disciple, it seems that the elder is also a grade 1 Pill Refiner.”
“He’s also the youngest senior brother of the older generation of Iron Flesh Sect. Perhaps this is why he could have an Iron Heart Token in his hand.” Mang Jiu told Qin Lan what he knew about the elder.
Although the information sounded superficial, it had its own uses when used correctly.
“By the way, I remembered that the elder is always drunk in his office, which is why he hardly refine pills anymore. From the rumors, it’s because the elder was injured by his rival about two years ago.” Mang Jiu added.
‘Two years ago again?’ Qin Lan’s eyebrow narrowed. He felt that there were too many things linked together in an incident two years ago.
