Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 103
Alexandra stood stunned looking at the surface. Wispy was not moving. Had she held Flavia’s hand, Flavia might have regained her balance but Wispy did what she did best – freezing.
Alexandra watched Flavia flailing her arms to get a grip on one of the rocks and tried her best to swim back, but the current was too strong for her to do anything.
Rage filled Alexandra’s soul. She remembered all of her previous lives, and there are very few of the people she remembered who was kind to her for no reason. Flavia is one of them. And to watch Flavia getting sucked into the current of boiling-hot water when she could have helped, made her feel helpless and angry.
[Get back, you wench!]
She commanded Wispy. Her only aim was to save Flavia from sure death. Once Flavia reaches the middle of the river, she would be boiled to death. She didn’t look back at the chains binding her ankle. She just wanted to be at the surface to save Flavia.
And she was there before she knew it.
With a gasp, she looked to her front. The entire area was filled with commotions as Pricilla alerted Julius that Flavia is getting swept by a strong current into the river. Flavia was shouting for help and struggling the best she can as she got closer to the middle.
[I have to stop the current!]
That was the thought that came to Alexandra first. That would stop Flavia from getting dragged. She was sitting on a rock in knee-deep water. She could see from her peripheral vision that Julius is getting past the rock partition and running to get his wife. Maximus was behind him and he tried to stop Julius from stepping forward.
[Ah… I am bare naked!]
It was her towel that had washed away and right now she has nothing covering her modesty. But she was not in the mood to care about that. She kneeled in the water and pressed her hands on the gravel soil of the river.
She took in a deep breath and she could figure out the direction of the current. But it was very strong, a little uncharacteristically strong for a river that is not flash flooded.
[Stop!]
She commanded and the next moment, as if a line was drawn over the river where her hand was placed, the water came to a halt. No water passed that line and with the flow of the water not decreasing, the water started to accumulate along the line.
Julius was not seeing the wall of water to his left but his eyes were on his wife. Without even realizing it, he had pushed away Maximus – his Emperor and stepped inside the women’s bathing area.
“Flavia!!” he screamed and tried to jump in the river. But with no water passing that line, the river bed became visible, but Flavia was pulled away by the water pulling her, despite her struggle to get out of the water.
Alexandra could see that the water carrying Flavia is turning hotter when it should cool down. Flavia let out a blood-curdling scream as her skin got burnt.
“Come here, Flavia!” Alexandra shouted and reached out her hand in the direction of Flavia as if she was grabbing something. With a little turn of her slender fingers, a sphere of water formed around Flavia, lifting her up the water level. Flavia was still squirming but then she relaxed a bit.
Every other soldier was on the other side of the rock and none of them knew who or what is doing all this. They saw Flavia’s shout and the roaring of the river stopped and they saw a wall of water rising to their left. They saw Flavia in the water, screaming for her life, but the water was boiling. Before anyone could do anything, they watched her pulled up by a ball of water.
“Lexa!” Maximus saw her eyes were silvery-white and he knew she is doing it. He ran to her and covered her with his cloak although she was not minding her nakedness.
After covering her, he noticed the ball of water starting to have a mildly white glow around it. He could see a large amount of mana getting transferred to the ball of water and understood that Alexandra is using her healing magic to heal Flavia.
Julius was not looking in her direction as he is screaming out for his wife. He didn’t even care what was happening around him as he ran to his wife. The ball of water that encompassed Flavia brought her to the river bank. Only when the ball of water dropped Flavia on the ground, and when his feet came in contact with the ice-cold water did he snap out of his tunnel vision.
‘Why is the water this cold? How did the water-‘
He turned to his side to see Alexandra looking at Flavia with a relieved smile. He looked down to see Flavia struggling to stand up and he gave her a hand.
“Ah! That was very careless of me,” Flavia said with her usual fruity chuckle and Julius held her shoulder and patted her down.
He saw… he saw his wife getting pulled into the current of boiling water. And he heard her screams as she got burnt. But why is she smiling as nothing happened? How is she acting like she is getting out of the bathtub after a bath? Didn’t she go through a very traumatic incident now? Did the water boil her brain? Why is there no sign of burns on her skin anywhere?
“What are you doing?” Flavia patted Julius’ arms. Without minding others, her husband is touching her freely. Many soldiers have started to peek from behind the rocks as they were curious as to know what happened to Flavia after she got carried by a mysterious ball of water.
“You were… How?” Julius couldn’t find the words to say. His eyes reddened and his lips trembled. He thought that he had lost his wife, but she is fine by some miracle.
He hugged her close.
“It’s obvious, isn’t it?” Flavia wrapped around her husband shaking. “I am safe. I am saved and healed… Alexandra did it!”
Julius turned to see Alexandra. The water was accumulating as it still wasn’t released. Steam was rising from the hot water covering the whole place. And she was staring at the other side of the river without flinching.
Maximus hugged her from behind and looked to the front. He knew there was something wrong with the water. Otherwise, Flavia would have dropped on the dry river bed once Alexandra stopped the flow of the river. He sensed a strong dark magic and it should be from the person staring at them from the other side. He cannot see him, but he can feel him.
He could understand why that person targeted Flavia when Alexandra was near. His target was Alexandra but he hurt Flavia on purpose.
Maximus looked to the side. Those soldiers were all mumbling and muttering something. And they were staring at Alexandra.
So this was an attempt to sow discord among the people!
Maximus smirked.
Alexandra is someone with great power. But her unlimited power is filled with light and goodness. Wherever her magic touches would prosper. He understands her power and he would never fear her power. But not everyone can know or understand her great power.
And humans tend to fear the things they don’t understand. It is their survival instinct to keep away from those who are more powerful than them. Their fear might be manipulated into reverence or hate.
And before he could elevate her to the position of reverence, someone is trying to spread hatred of her.
And he knew just who that would be! And he knew just what he should do to them.
Alexandra saw the figure in a long black cloak retreating into the deeper part of the trees. There were some armored knights around that man and they seemed to be following him.
She tried to get to one of them for interrogation. This incident with Flavia was planned by that man and she wanted to end him so that he won’t disturb her again.
She looked at the wall of boiling water and with just a flick of her eyebrows, some parts of the water started to crystallize into arrows; and the ice arrows turned and faced those men running away.
She was about to release the arrows, but she felt the soft embrace of Maximus and she forgot about following them. He should have seen them too and he is not minding them so there is no need for her to worry about them.
She turned and looked at him. Those amber eyes were filled with affection and she reached her hands to touch his cheek. For the past few weeks, she’s seen his face a lot of times but she couldn’t touch him. And this time…
“Maximus,” she smiled and her voice started to tremble as she could feel his cheek in her hand.
“Lexa… Lexa..?” Maximus looked in his eyes and saw the spark in her eyes. He knew it. He knew she is back.
His Alexandra is back!
Before Alexandra could take her trembling hands away from his cheek, she felt her feet floating above and her world darkened.
And within moments, her chest tightened and she longed for breath.
