Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 115
Alexandra looked out at the garden trying to find sharp words to say to him. But rather than the pleasant greenery in front of her, she found herself to be mesmerized more by his minty scent. She let out a sigh. There is no salvation for her, alright. She’s trapped forever to his allure. Defeated, she spoke to him as a lovely wife would talk about her day to her husband. “She asked me to call her “mother”. She wants me to relax as she has accepted me…”
“Relaxation in her presence? She is a snake, Lexa… Just be careful,” Maximus’ hand reached above to her chest as his lips kissed her earlobe.
“I know,” Alexandra didn’t think that his warning is needed and her tone was indifferent. “I don’t…” she took in a deep breath as his warmth spread on her bosom.
Maximus sighed and walked away, leaving her sigh like a pair of bellows. She angered him, it seems and she turned and look at his stiff shoulder.
Maximus indeed was angry with her careless attitude. She was like this in the presence of Luke only for her to get used by him and get stomped under his boots.
«Stupid Coxcomb! Will she ever realize how grave the situation around her is? She is careless as always! That’s fine… she doesn’t have to do anything. I will take care of everything for her.»
“I am going to have tea with one of the women staying here… A Lady-” his heart prickled with guilt and he hardened his heart to look at her.
He had to do this to send a strong warning to everyone concerned. It seemed like just with the grand welcome they planned, those ministers are under the impression that he is a changed man who accepts their requests. They should know who is in control in this place.
And it is not them.
“A woman?” Alexandra placed her hand on her chest. She didn’t know why but at the moment she felt like someone is squeezing her heart like how a maid would wring the clothes to dry. “An advisor of yours, perhaps?” she wanted to make sure that she is panicking for no reason.
Maximus looked at her lost for words. The brightness from the window illuminated her soft cheek and he observed her cheek gradually blushing red. No, she was not blushing out of excitement. Because if she was excited, her bright eyes won’t get red along.
“No, it’s…” he walked towards her. “She’s one of-”
“Then have a nice evening with your wife, Maximus.”
She didn’t bother to smile and before he could reach her, she had jumped down from the window. He clenched his jaws cursing himself. He knew this is the one thing that hurts her and he is doing the same thing Luke did.
But it is necessary.
He peeked out of the window to see if she has landed safely. This is the third floor and as long as the other occupant didn’t gain control of her body, she can manage to land safely. He retreated his head immediately as he saw a sharp gust of wind reaching towards him as Kefir spread his wings.
«Ah, she is mad…»
He watched her fly away. She didn’t go far but landed at the far end of the garden. He relaxed and turned around. No matter how many times he watched her leaving him, it hurt more each time. He could never get used to it.
He stared at the disturbance at the distance. The birds all fluttered away and even the squirrels and bugs all scampered away to let the daughter of the Dragon King brood alone. He saw from the distance a small figure was running towards her. It was Marcus. As much as he hated Marcus, he knew in this place, she would be safer with Marcus.
«I will get to you soon, my love, with very exciting news!»
He left the room to his office where this tea is arranged.
—–
Alexandra wanted to fly away far from this wretched place. She didn’t like the wretchedness ruling this place. But she didn’t want to leave Maximus. And it’s not like he didn’t tell her about the many “wives” he had. And it is not that abhorrent to have tea with that-
[Ugh! It is abhorrent!]
She fisted her hands and gritted her teeth. She was so angry, she wanted to burn everything around her.
“Ahhhh!” she grunted and with a roaring blaze, her hands caught on fire.
[Ah… I forgot I can manipulate fire!]
She blew on her hand to put out the flames. The dried leaves that were by her side had caught fire already and she quickly stomped on them.
“Stop it!” she pointed at Kefir.
“I didn’t say anyth-”
“Yet!” she interjected him. “I know you want to make fun of me, Kefir.” She pointed at the big lion now taking the form of the little white cat.
“No!” She poked her finger at him as his mouth opened. “Don’t!”
Kefir didn’t open his mouth afterward but he laughed nonetheless.
“Sekwi!” she didn’t want to argue with Kefir in vain and called upon the firebird.
Kefir loved her too much and would humor her in every way. He is someone she trusts blindly and that gives him the gained right to treat her like a clueless child.
The Phoenix appeared and spread its mighty wings amidst the rows of trees. But with a wave of hand it then turned to the translucent bird she is familiar with. She stared at the blue eyes of the bird. It still had a hostile attitude towards her.
“I can see you are angry with me, Sekwi,” she spoke in a soothing tone.
By birth she is of a higher status to these beasts. She is the daughter of the creator. But knowing this, the beast is angry with her, and that only means that she deserves this hostility.
“Pardon me for my ears are scorched,” The bird spoke in a sarcastic voice.
Alexandra looked at Kefir for answers. She sensed the hostility the bird has towards her even in her past life. She didn’t think it was always this way. If the bird hated her, he wouldn’t have answered her summon and become her summoned best. He had the right to refuse her.
And so, it must have been something that happened afterward.
“Oh, dear Arimelda…” Kefir shook his head. “You are being very insensitive here.”
“I apologize, Sekwi,” Alexandra decided to apologize first although she didn’t know why she is doing so only to be met with the burning blue eyes of the bird.
[Oh, now I’ve offended him more it seems…Uh-oh!]
Alexandra let out a sigh and with a bow excused the bird and he disappeared.
“Kefir, help me out here,” She begged. “Please…”
Kefir sat in front of her with his front limbs supporting him. And he stared at her for a while. Alexandra eagerly waited for him to speak further. Kefir got exasperated seeing her eyes.
“We have our pride, Arimelda…” Kefir stated and he continued without letting Alexandra speak further. “We chose to serve you. But you never treated us as your equal as we expected you to be… as you did always… We were… we were used as showponies, as freaks, as weapons which we greatly despised. We expressed our desires, our qualms… and yet you chose to ignore our plight for…” he let her finish his words.
“My stupid “love”,” she snorted.
She felt ashamed. Kefir has put it in the most gentle way possible. But the brunt of it is that…
“I betrayed your trust…” she admitted her wrong. Her eyes stang.
She was a human and she suppressed her memories. But the whole spiritual realm knew who she is. And when she summoned, these beasts answered her summon, to serve Arimelda they knew. But all they got was the stupid Alexandra who was willing to sacrifice in the altar of her naivety and incompetence.
“Ah…” she sighed. “Would an apology be sufficient, Kefir? For what I did?”
“The worst thing you did was being ashamed to announce us as your beasts, Arimelda…” Kefir said and she bowed her head.
She wanted to give the impression that Luke was the one who summoned them for her reasons. And she never stopped to think what they thought of that. She was very selfish and treated these powerful allies as mere slaves.
And now there are records of them being the summoned beasts of trash of a human being. It is no wonder if they are angry about it.
“An apology… would it be enough for what I did to you? Or… Do you want vindication?” she asked.
Kefir stood up and walked majestically away from her. She knew what his answer is. They are proud beasts. They loved getting vindicated.
[Ah… how will I set it right?]
As she was ruminating, she heard a rustling noise somewhere near her and she stood up and looked around.
“Marcus! I am here!” she waved her hand and the boy ran to her and bowed.
“I found Lady Flavia, Your Royal Highness. She was in the…”
As he was speaking Alexandra heard a bunch of footsteps approaching and she saw a woman with impeccable clothes and makeup walking towards them with broader steps.
“Give way for the future Empress!”
One of the maids tried to push Alexandra away, and Marcus, her diligent Paladin blocked her.
