Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 128
Alexandra wondered what made Flavia say these things, but she didn’t doubt her for one moment. She knew Flavia’s heart is filled with love and betraying someone would be impossible for her.
“Use me? How?” Alexandra asked only for Flavia to cry more.
Alexandra waited for Flavia to get calm enough to speak. After she had calmed down, Alexandra urged Flavia to have a cup of tea before speaking.
“When you rescued me… You asked me about the flower that can grand any wish, right?” Flavia asked.
Alexandra nodded. “You refused that. And you meant it, I know.”
“I did..!” Flavia said and her eyes reddened once more. “But I regretted it pretty soon. When I entered the city… I knew I will have to meet those old friends and family who always would ask me the same thing again and again…” Flavia sniffed.
She then started talking in a high-pitched tone to impersonate the others who would talk to her.
‘You haven’t gotten pregnant still?’
‘Don’t worry that you’re barren…’
‘You’re not that old!’ ‘
You must be very lucky for your husband to not think about marrying another woman by now…’
‘Are you sure your husband is happy with you..? I won’t have that confidence if I were you…’
‘Ah, my son just became a father! If you had a child when you are supposed to, you would have been a grandmother too…’
‘You are old! You should let your husband be free… He can still have a child!’
‘If it were me I’d have died before letting my husband become unfilial. Don’t mind me, I was just talking about myself here. Julius loves you!~”
“You know what, Flavia,” Alexandra stopped Flavia to think about the hurtful words hurled at her. She knows how powerful words are. And how much it can hack your soul.
“Others should mind their own business,” Alexandra shrugged. “What happens in your life is not something for them to get amused at. They can keep their opinions to their own rotten self!”
Flavia stayed silent for some time, just staring at her. But then her eyes watered more.
“You are a very kind soul, Alexandra. I don’t know who you are, but you are very kind and you are filled with love. I wish you-” she let out a sigh seeing Alexandra smiling at her.
“I apologize for wasting your time like this, Alexandra, but I… I am not worth your love,” Flavia said.
Alexandra chuckled as she now understood what Flavia wants to say.
“So you regretted refusing my offer then. And so what are you planning to do now that I am giving you another offer?” She asked.
“Well, if you put it this way…” Flavia bowed her head and contemplated for some time.
She was feeling guilty because she thought she was being selfish. By regretting her decision to refuse the miracle flower, she thought she had corrupted herself. She hated herself wondering if Alexandra would think that she was lovely to Alexandra so that she would give that offer again.
Loving Alexandra was not hard for her. It was easy. But because of her confused thoughts and the sorrow that rules her heart, she wondered if she was not a good person. She wondered if she wanted to exploit Alexandra for expecting magic from her.
But Alexandra is implying that she is not minding that. That it was her offer out of love and refusing it or wanting it is not selfish.
“The offer still stands, Flavia. There is no flower, but I can help you if you want. You just have to ask. Anything you want, I shall give you. And I won’t think of your wishes as selfish,” Alexandra assured her.
Flavia bowed her head. She still felt humiliated in front of the benevolence of Alexandra.
“Don’t feel bad, Flavia,” Alexandra held her hand. “I’ve seen a lot… Your little wish is not going to make me lose hope. I know you would love me even if I am an useless, abused woman who is wanted by no one.”
“Ah…” Alexandra realized something. “It is not about me or my weakness. You know who you are and you don’t have to mind what others perceive you as,” she said.
Alexandra smiled knowingly. It is true. She knows who she is and she doesn’t have to care why people want to get close to her or what people want from her. She can do what she wants to do.
She does not think this way all the time. There are times when she loses her confidence and longs for true love. But maybe now that she knows of Maximus’ love for her, her confidence has returned.
“Who are you, Alexandra?” Flavia asked. “Are you the destroyer as people here think? Or are you the Hero who delivers people?”
“Me?” Alexandra shrugged. “I am not sure. I just do what I think is good for the people. All I want is for the human race to live happily and peacefully.”
Flavia was stunned by Alexandra. But her astonishment turned to reverence and adoration. Now Alexandra didn’t like getting worshipped at all. That’s what separated her from her family. Her father and mother are worshiped. There are temples for her sister too. But she didn’t want to be worshipped and that was why she stayed among the humans as one of them.
“Then can I ask something of you, Alexandra?” Flavia asked. “Can you help all the barren women to have a child?”
Alexandra smiled. She remembered coming across people like Flavia who cared about others as much as they do about themselves. She loved them.
“Seventh day from today, any couple who drink a sip of water from the Yerakrak River as the sun rises, will have their wishes granted to have a child,” Alexandra said and stood up.
“Thank you, Alexandra,” Flavia didn’t even question Alexandra and bowed her head. “I will spread this news far and wide.”
Alexandra didn’t mind. She gave seven days just for that. She does have the power to make every couple give birth, but it is just a simple test. If they desire a child that badly, they will do the menial task without any hesitation.
Also, she has to create a spell for that and she chose the Yerakrak river because the river reaches almost every part of the realm one way or another.
Flavia on the other hand, remembered all the old stories she has heard from others. she has heard that the Great Father was the one who would do a lot of miracles and would help the humans in any way he can. He was humble, kind and treated humans as his peers although he was a powerful demigod.
For whatever reason, looking at Alexandra, she wondered if being in the presence of the Great Father would have been similar to being in the presence of Alexandra. She wondered if those who had seen the Great Father and lived with him would have felt the same way as she is feeling now.
Flavia left the room filled with happiness. And Alexandra was happy too.
In the evening Maximus returned and Alexandra couldn’t wait to tell him about her day. But when he entered he looked so tired and she helped him get off his clothes.
“I am so spent…” he let out a sigh and leaned on Alexandra’s shoulder.
“My poor Tubby,” Alexandra gently caressed his hair.
He hugged her around her waist and rested for a while. Flavia brought them dinner and they had dinner together.
After dinner, Maximus still wasn’t letting her go. She was reading another book sitting by the windowsill. He was lying on her lap and enjoying himself as her slender fingers caressed his hair.
“Julius talked to me about the hunt,” Alexandra said closing the book. She didn’t know what he was thinking but she could figure that he is in deep contemplation and his heart is troubled.
“I am thinking of cancelling the hunt, Lexa,” he sat straight. She saw clarity returning to his eyes and he looked at her with determination.
“Do you remember fighting with the worm monsters at your farm?” he asked and Alexandra nodded.
“My blood…” her eyes widened as she finally got what happened there. “My blood turned them back to their true form!”
She remembered the swarm of earthworms poking their head out and bowing at her as it rained. They were those monsters that were turned back once her blood came in contact with them. That was why Maximus squeezed her hand.
“Yes,” Maximus nodded. “Somehow that day… that day we died some beings got affected and turned to monsters.” Maximus said.
“It was my blood and… I saw you Tubby…” she held his hand. “I saw you piecing that blade inside you. Your regret and my powers… My remorse and resentment… It must have affected the beings that came in contact with the water… I need to set it right, Tubby… They shouldn’t be suffering.”
Maximus hugged her. That day is very hard for the both of them to talk about.
“If it is the water…” Maximus got an idea.. “Then I have an idea.”
